TravelPhotoJournals.com

The Mayan civilization once thrived in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. This area is also well known as the Mayan Riviera or Cancun for tourists.
Discovering this place is like discovering paradise on earth. Its always so hot that you only need to wear a bathing suit all the time. But no worries, cause you can always refresh in the waters of the Caribbean Sea, or in natural underground pools of fresh water called "cenotes".

The jungle hides many mysteries, and among them, is the mystery of the Mayas. A civilization that once lived here and mysteriously dissapeared, like as if some dark force want it to keep it secret. Little bit of them is known since all documents were burned by the wrath of the Catholic church 500 years ago. Only a few important documents and carved hieroglyphics in the ancient cities in the jungle remain. Looking into this deep jungle to discover about the Mayas might turn into a journey of self discovery through the deep jungle of the ego, as we learn that the end of the world as we know it was predicted by the Mayas using the "Tzolkin" to happen on Gregorian date 2012 A.D.

The mystic Kukulcan Pyramid is more than a precise giant sun clock.

The observatory in the Chichen Itza site resembles very much like todays observatories.

It was an amazing adventure full of adrenaline and mysticism in which I felt like Indiana Jones in search for the great enigma of the Mayan calendar . We visited the ancient cities of Chichen Itza and Coba deep in the jungle. We visited the Mayan village of Tankah and enjoyed a meal with the local people. We explored through the jungle to find secret cenotes at Hidden Worlds. We went snorkling in the Caribbean Sea and in underwater caves in the middle of the jungle. And went shopping to the touristic town of Playa del Carmen. All these while staying at the Grand Palladium Resort.

Volcan del cuervo is one of the most popular volcanoes because of its dramatic look. This volcano is easily accessible by a trail from the main road. Hiking to the inside of the crater is easy. But be careful if you decide to climb up to walk around the ridge.

Volcan del Cuervo ( The Raven´s Volcano )

The trail is easy to find just off the main road.

A small trail takes you up to the ridge

It only takes about 30 minutes to go all around the ridge.

Its really amazing walking on the edge of the ridge.

The trail takes you inside the crater through a crack on the wall. So there is no need to climb up to the top of the ridge to get inside the crater.

Inside the crater there is a purifying spiral that you can add a rock to make the spiral bigger. It is believed that walking through the spiral purifies the spirit through the element of fire from the volcano.
When the crater of a volcano is very large, then the volcano is called a boiler (caldera in spanish). The Caldera Blanca boiler is the biggest one in Lanzarote with 1200 meters in diameter. What makes this ancient volcano boiler unique is that its color is white.
People from all over the world participated in the world´s toughest triathlon with the dream of making it to the finishing line. 3.8 K swim - 180 K bike - 42 K run. Something that seems imposible, but with hard work and dedication it can be done. The great majority of participants are not professional athletes. Anyone can participate. An example of the great things a human being can accomplish if he proposes himself to do it.
Once again I was lucky enough to be one of the official photographers of the event. These photos are available for publishing.
After I took these tube photos of him, I had to meet him. It seems that maybe he was the first one to ride El Quemao at the age of 16. He tells us, that he was born in 1963 in Las Palmas of Gran Canaria, and they call him "El Petrolero" because his father has a petrol station.

<itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:subtitle> In Lanzarote I had the opportunity to speak with Alfredo "El Petrolero" , One of the greatests specialists tube riders in the Canary isles. I photograph weddings according to the couple's wish.
He is Stefano from Scottland, and she is Lucila from Mallorca.
Its about capturing the moment...with about 75 photos in the album.
The first photos are a recreation of when the couple was falling in love.
I shot this a few weeks before the ceremony at the coast of the Mediterranean sea.
Then comes the ceremony.
Right after, we do portraits with family members and best friends.
Then a private photo session on the way to the party.
And then comes the big celebration.
Spontaneity and improvisation are always there...
I am available for DOP for TV commercials, documentaries, music videos, and webTVclips.
My lighting style techniques in photography are 100% compatible with cinematography because I almost never ever use flash.
I have done 2 TV commercials in Spain for Cafe Rico and Grupo Serra.
My personal interest and passion for surfing has send me to many distant places and I am shooting surfing life films. I am constantly working on my personal project of surfing series called Surf Tripping. I am currently on Chapter 5.
I studied DOP at The Film and Video Arts School of New York.
1991-96 I was an asistant DOP in various TV commercials and documentaries in NY.

Working for more then twenty years in photography have filled my life with awesome rewarding experiences and great friendships. The paths that I have chosen are not just coincidence but a journey of self realization in this game we call life.

I was born in Mallorca and grew up in Puerto Rico and U.S.A. Growing up in the Caribbean is so hot that I was always in the water; surfing, sailing, fishing, and snorkling.

I studied 3 years of University for Marine Biology. But decided to go to NY and study photography instead.

From 1991 to 1996, I was a photographer assistant in NY for 5 years, working with some of the best photographer´s in the world. During those years times where changing as we entered the digital revolution. Mixing some of the old technics with the new digital technics was an exciting challenge. The computer replaced the dark room and revolutionized the printing industry. New forms of communication and information became available when the internet went public.

In 1996 I built my webpage with the dream of escaping the rat race...
I shoot with digital cameras and use a computer for my darkroom. Whenever a client is not present, I create an internet photo album for the production in progress. Similar to my web page. And with e-mails and calls we stay communicated for plans and decision making, across thousands of miles through the internet. This way I´m able to work while travelling around the world.
I can also print them at any size you like for your wall.
Prints are in glossy, matte, or canvas.
Photos look like paintings when printed on a large canvas and mounted on wood.
If you live in my area, I can deliver the photos already mounted and ready to hang.
I can also roll it up and ship it out to you.
And now with the internet you can pick up your print in the nearest photo shop near your home.

Remember:

To take a good photo is more complicated than it looks like. Lots of things have to coincide to take the perfect photo. It helps to have the right equipment, technical knowledge, dedication and even good luck. Add to these the right light conditions, and of course, lots of talent from the models. My photos are not casuality, they are carefully planned and treated with alot of dedication and hard work.

For the dedication and sacrifice that this occupation takes, we are bothered that some companies, magazines, and websites copy our photos illegally for their own commercial use, without the authorization of the photographer or model. This piracy practice is illegal. Is true that many companies meet the photographers and models requirements to sell their products, but there are also other companies that don’t do this. These people copy photos from magazines and internet and use them for their sales in the local market. They do this without the consent of the photographer, who legally owns the copyright of the photograph. Also, many models have exclusive sponsors and their image cannot be used commercially by another company that doesn’t have a contract with him.

We will be carefully protecting our images from piracy. We are prepared to take any legal action necessary if we find out that someone is using or copying our images without previous permission. ( This can be easily avoided ).
