Congratulations to Brain and Anna. They got married this month in the Costa Rica capital, San Jose. I had the honor to travel there to photograph their wedding and meet their extraordinary families. It was a wonderful 4 days of fun, family and festivities.

Life in Beaton

Some close friends of mine have a wonderful summer get away cabin that is completely off the grid in the interior of British Columbia. No Cel phones, no electricity, just the serenity and beauty of the mountains. I took the opportunity this summer to disconnect from the wired world for a week and join them at their place in Beaton, B.C..
I traveled with my Canon G10 point & shoot and took some snapshots during the week. You can see a slideshow of the images here.
I hadn’t done any night photography for quite a while so the kids and I played on the beach one night taking long exposures to capture our sparkler and flashlight drawings. The kids picked it up immediately and started doing all sorts of great designs with their sparklers.
…a totally fun and rejuvenating week.

Lake Tahoe

I just returned from a week of catalog work in Lake Tahoe. I grew up in the Sierra Nevada foothills and had gone to Tahoe many times in the winter for skiing but had never been there in the summer. All I can say is wow, what a beautiful area. We had perfect weather and the whole job went super smoothly. Can’t ask for more than that when you’re working on location!
One of our days was at the Thunderbird Lodge on the East shore. The lodge was built by eccentric millionaire George Whittell Jr. in the late 1930’s and is an odd and spectacular property with a boathouse that is connected to the main residence and an outlying card house by an underground tunnel. The boathouse is home to an incredible mahogany motor yacht said to be worth 10 million!

Mt Shasta Wedding

I’ve committed to taking on a number of weddings this summer that will cover the full spectrum from formal/traditional to exotic locations to unconventional and unique. I’m completely excited to have the opportunity and honor of being able to capture the wonderful moments of these couples special day.
The spring started out with an amazing wedding on the side of Mt Shasta in California. 200 guest, a vintage theme, prayer flags, and a chair lift were involved. It was completely unique and special event with the celebration lasting 3 full days!

I’ve been involved with CrossFit for some time now and get to do a diverse range of creative projects for a local affiliate, Northwest CrossFit. From web design/production to graphic design and photography. I find the diversity fun, challenging and rewarding. Unlike a lot of my other work where I only do the photography and have no involvement in the rest of the process, I’m finding it very satisfying to do a project from concept to print. The latest projects have been a brochure and a couple of post cards that incorporated some new photography as well as other images that I had created over the last year for different projects.

Design Work

Hang gliding is a past time of mine and for the last 3 years I’ve been organizing and running a week long cross country, hang gliding competition in Chelan, Washington. The area is know for it’s big dust devils, and great XC soaring. It’s great fun both in the air and on the ground. Part of the fun for me is having a chance to do some graphic design work for the hang gliding event. Below are a couple designs I’ve done for the last two events.

Bikini Football League

Had a interesting shoot the other week to promote the Bikini Football League and what these girls do to get in shape. What? Never heard of the Bikini Football League. Well, neither had I…really. Maybe it’s the next big thing. But regardless of what you think of the league, these women are true athletes who do CrossFit 3-4 times a week. So the challenge was to somehow figure out how to marry these two seemingly dissimilar things (CrossFit & Bikinis) into an image. These are a couple of out-takes from the first shoot.

New Website

As a sole-proprietor I end up wearing a lot of hats; business owner, marketing manager, photographer, teacher, digital tech and most recently, web developer. I’ve spent the last couple weeks redesigning my photography website and learning more about CSS and Flash/Actionscript. The goal was to have a more integrated site that was easily updated and that provided easy navigation and access to information. I’ll be adding more pages/info to the services section in the days to come but it’s finished enough at this point to go live. So take a look around and let me know what you think.

Happy New Year

I’ve spent the last two weeks in southern California visiting friends and family and escaping the “Artic Blast” that hit Seattle over Christmas. I had a few days in Los Angeles doing some architectural work before checking out for the holiday and fully enjoying the sunny weather.

All the snow has melted back in Seattle now and I’ve returned home to a new year full of new possibilities.
