100 Precision Jumps – Stick Them All

After seeing Kie WIllis do 100 sticks, way bigger and better than anything I can do,
it inspired me to see how many I could do, on just a small jump.

Started off overshoting loads, surprisingly easy to get to fifty, so just kept on going.
My form got better the closer I got to 100, and my quads did hurt, but it was nowwhere near as hard as I thought it was going to be.

True to form, the 5k run and 100 stair machine steps came straight after this, it’s like a warm down, I can do it no matter how tired I feel.
There’s no race, or attempt to better my time, I run it within what my body can handle, the stairs now are easy, all done switching and twisting from one side to the other.

Discovered this makes my ankles, calves and achilles strong, and gets the joints used to being twisted in different directions.
My calves never ache now, quads do, core does, but the rest of my legs keep on going.

Hope this stands me in good stead for The Rage.

The Corrado G60

Polished up after a few months of no use, which really screwed it up.
Not the kind of car you can leave idle. I can’t work out if it’s a major design flaw, or age, or both.
Perhaps it’s just this one in particular.

Porsche BBS Rs Rims, Recaro seats, MK3 VR6 2.8 litre turbo charged engine with high lift cams, 300BHP.
That’s almost too much power for a front wheel drive car, but it never feels like a kick, acceleration is always smooth.

What happens to this car after The Rage is done is debateable. Loralie and Cassie then finally ALex will drive it away.
But will I want to keep it, or try and claw back the cash spent on it?

I don’t know , but either way it’s a special car that will enhance The Rage, and make a great villain’s car.
God know’s what I’ll do if someone wants it for a sequel.

Big Drop – Well At Least For Me It Was

So I’d had a good session, legs feel good, knees feel good.
So I take a look at this drop, for young dudes it would be easy, but for old man parkour, a fresh challenge.

Since I’m going to have to take a few hits, leaps off balconies for The Rage, I gave it a shot.
Always follow my instincts, if the body says no, leave it alone.
Today it said yes , but take it seriously.

The impact was a shock, not rolling forward due to the slope, a mistake.
But I took it with no injuries at all. The roll forward is crucial, even if it’s terrible, just have to dissipate that force.
That force! The conditioning in my legs from 5k runs and 1000’s of steps on the stair machine, saved my butt.

Rest assured I won’t be doing another one unless I can roll forward.
I even went shopping afterwards, I’ve gotten more injuries rolling out of bed, amazing.

Speeding It Up – Old Man In Flight

Got some good pictures of some speed vaults during training for The Rage.
Still need to do a lot, lot more, but four years of injuries limits the time I’ve got before the shoot.
I’ll get as far as I can and make the best with what skills I have.

Got to work on pulling less of a face when vaulting, or come up with a cool “movie” face when moving.
To be fair, I have a picture of David Belle vaulting on my desktop, and yes he looks much cooler and smoother than me.
However, he’s definitely pulling a gurn.

I do keep forgetting, that I am pretty much fifty, and most people are falling to pieces at my age.
But that’s never been good enough for me, I’m fitter now than I’ve been for years.
Haven’t even really got started yet, so that’s a good sign.

The Ghost Walks with you …

Parkour Speed Vaults

Got my parkour speed vaults back nice and quick, so long as you keep the hips high, there’s no danger of ever clipping.
Done these enough times in the past that even if I clip my feet, or my knee, I’m still going over, and still on my feet too.

Just got to watch that sciatica. Took me years to figure out the tighter your hamstrings get, the more they pull on your pelvis.
The pelvis then pulls down, bingo, sciatica or even worse a pinched nerve that over tightens your hamstrings.

Solution : Stretch them out every day, and every session.
Just don’t stretch anything else apart from your calves, achilles.

Stretching causes injury, unless that part is designed to stretch, like the hamstrings.

Especially bin the old quad stretch, that physio classic.
Funny how all my injuries started to heal as soon as I stopped, shoulders too.

The Corrado G60, Loralie’s and Cassie’s car in The Rage is back after yet another round of repairs.
When it’s good it’s a great car, when it’s not it’s a pain in the arse.
Let’s hope it’s ready in time for the film.

Formerly a show winning car, I mistakenly thought, it’s beeen in a garage, hardly used, it will be flawless..
I was sooo wrong.

Next week I’m off to the London Screen Writers festival for the first time, to learn about pitching and script writing to add what I’m doing already.

I’m in prep for my two ideas so I can get good practice in, and have one in the bag for backup. The course is great, really insightful, and I’ll take several modules to get that blueprint of how to finish a great script.

Parkour training is going surprisingly well, making great progress as you can see in the video. My coach is very pleased and it bodes well for the film trailer. 2 more years of training and we’ll have something special to use for the character and the action sequences.

The very next day after that video, (which took an hour to learn, and it was not working at the start) we went to a gymnastics gym for the first time in my life. I managed to kong vault a shoulder height vaulting horse, even impressing some local free runners, who complimented me and gave me some technical tips. Most people don’t make it that far first time. I have to squeeze some more time for training as it will pay off later.

Escrima is much tougher, Alex is a great teacher, but I’m far from a natural, so a long way to go there, but it will come , just got to keep turning up. I usually manage 6 hours a week, but sometimes my body demands a rest. Busiest I’ve ever been.

We’re looking at firearns training in Poland at the end of November, as soon as I heard about that, sign me up! Great to get a real feel for a real weapon, take it apart etc then bring that knowledge back for the film.Glock, AK47, shotgun, just perfect!

You may ask, especially since I haven’t posted for over a year, what about the music?

It’s taking a back seat, but I am going to try to squeeze in some practice in readiness for writing the soundtrack for my trailer. The harsh reality is, I can’t make a living from music, and I fought for it for 20 years, put all my time, cash etc into it. If I don’t get myself into a creative industry, I’m faced with office work for the rest of my days, I’d rather go out fighting than face that.

I have to “feed the music so it can feed me”, or “feed the film so it can feed me”.
So that’s why all the effort, so I can get my foot in the door of the film industry, leap frogging everyone else ( kong vault anyone?).

So when I take yet another knock from training, and yes even in that clip I’m carrying several, just keep on going.

At the end of it all, what a business card to have and to demonstrate to a prospective employer, ” this is what I went through for this”.

Hope you don’t mind the long silence here, will try to fit a few more in. I can’t reveal everything, because you should “never teach the wu-tang”, but hopefully you’ll see what can be done if you persevere.

the Ghost walks with You…

http://network.technobass.net/page/august-2014-record-review-the-ghost-that-walks-invader-of-the-gri

Still recovering from knee injuries, but getting stronger, just have to be patient.
A bit of restraint now will keep me in good shape long term.

Here’s the text of the review :

August 2014 Record Review | The Ghost That Walks – Invader Of The Grid

“The darkest, rawest, deadliest audio experience of your life?”.

After listening to this epic outing, we must admit words from Andy of Bass Agenda Recordings to introduce the brand new rush of adrenaline from the one and only “The Ghost That Walks”, were chosen on point!

Hailing from UK, the immense but long overlooked artist has been working in the shadows for many years whereas during all this time his unique talent would have deserved to be put under the strobes.

Author of a pretty short but essential discography on underground labels such as Zyntax Motorcity and Satamile USA Records, enigmatic Paul Bishop, in true life, redefines the syncopated genre each time he drops a new E.P..

“Invader Of The Grid” is no different from his previous releases, gathering altogether no less than six uncompromising pieces of raw, merciless, brutal and sonic wonder; TGTW has no rival when it comes to injecting fat, dirty, and dark driving frequencies into a nasty yet authentic post Electro era.

This is music at its most twitch worthy and an unlimited source of inspiration for the new generation of freaks, definitively pushing the style into unknown territories.

Fusing the sound of Detroit (UR, Ultradyne) to Paul’s first synthesizer influences, from John Barry to John Carpenter, the digital packs hits hard from the first notes of “Tazers In The Sun”.

While analog lines crash against your brain, the powerful atmospheres of the opening track meet non-comprising pulsations making his music ballsy, unconstrained, spreading blood and tears through your speakers.

SciFi “The Devil’s Kiss”, my favorite, serves up next an astounding piece of dramatic Electro based upon gloomy synth layers and a feverish dancefloor bassline.

Let’s figure that the doors to your most terrific nightmares have been left opened and you’ll get an idea of how strong this fearing track really is!

Dark “The Fall Of The Tower” sounds like another charmer with its metallic rhythms a la Aphex Twin.

Definitely not for the faint of hearts! Instantly following, “Master Of Destiny” delivers an aggressive sound design enhanced with industrial reminiscences along with well placed claps causing severe mental damage.

The title track “Invader Of The Grid” escapes from the classic Electro constructions to deliver a tense and sharp breakbeat jam reminding one of some of Control Tower, SMB Records or Audio Illusion productions. Ace!

Final cut “Blood & Lace” concludes the E.P. with a serious dose of testosterone, combining audio aesthetics to a merciless sense of the dancefloor!

Unstoppable and subtle at the same time, this evil release is a must have. Another beast from the Ghost and forthcoming success on Bass Agenda Recordings!

https://soundcloud.com/bassagenda/bass-agenda-presents-7-the-ghost-that-walks-invader-of-the-grid-releasing-11th-july-2014

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted, but here is some good news.
Bass Agenda have some previews of my forthcoming release due July 11th up on Soundcloud.

Until I land a new computer at Christmas, my old PC just can’t take the pressure of tunes anymore, it’s 8 years old!

You can purchase via iTunes, Junodownload, Beatport, Clone and Amazon

Featuring:
Invader Of The Grid
Tazers In the Sun
The Devils Kiss
Master Of Destiny
Blood & Lace
The Fall Of The Tower

I miss it, but I’m ready with all the software I need to fully load it, back with a bang and a boom…
On top of that I’ll be making a lot of new tracks for the film as I write the script, I just won’t have time to write it all afterwards, as I’ll be deep in editing, fx, grading you name it!

Training right now is slow due to knee injury, but being fixed with a new weight program by my coach. A lot more agile and despite my aching legs and knees they are starting to take the pressure. A lot less tight now due to the stretching exercises I’ve been given.

Money well spent, and a great coach who has an answer for just about every problem or niggle I have. He’ll get me through the film in one piece!

Still learning a lot about cinematography and film making on a daily basis, definitely something I want to break into in future, and this film is the only real way to do it, so it’s got to be done!

Will be looking at boosting my funds for it soon, although I can only do a trailer, the full film would need backing from a production company. It will make a great visualisation of what I can do and how it will look. Chances are different people when it comes to the full feature. That’s just the way productions work, as I now know!

Keep it dark, and keep on fighting …

The Evil one gets to shoot his mouth off in a very rare outing.
Why oh why do I let him out in public…

We get to go back to the beginning, how it all started, what inspired The Ghost, what it was like in Detroit, what it was like to struggle, fail and keep going to the point where a film featuring The Ghost That Walks dark electro will eventually and finally see the light ( or dark of day).

Get to hear what inspired me and him, from John Barry to John Carpenter, unreleased tracks and personal favourites from Zyntax Motor City and Satamile.

A very cool interview and thanks to Andy from Bass Agenda for his time and effort.
Tune in at various times and days from Friday 14th March onwards.

Welcome to the House of Danny Wolfers aka Legowelt.

Playing a big part in the history of Bunker Records, carving his way through more international clubs than you can name, remixing and recording for prestigious labels like Clone, Minimal Rome, Cocoon Recordings and his very own Strange Life label.

Step into the world of Mr Wolfers…

—————————————–

You had a real education discovering Bunker records in your hometown in The Hague when you first started.
What did they teach you, and is there anything you learnt that you still carry with you even today?

Yeah basicly just to not give a fuck about what anyone thinks of you or what you are doing, to not bow to any peer pressure…that pretty much the whole “dance” music industry is just a facade of the dumbest and stupidest people imaginable and that its pretty easy to exploit all that haha!

You’ve been lucky enough to be successful early on, and keep a strong momentum going.
Is there anything you have picked up from your experiences that has really helped to boost that momentum.
Maybe something that you did where you really thought that was really incredible.

Well I can’t do much else…this whole music producing thing has been my job for more then 10 years now…i guess thats the most incredible thing in these times. I don’t think there is one particular thing that helps to boost the momentum, its all small and little things that add up together I guess.

Another part to that question, is there anything you have seen
other artists do that really blew you away,
that you really admired and wanted to emulate yourself?

Yeah that is pretty much the driving force of any artist I think? The
inspiration of other artists which is basically a fundamental need to imitate/copy their music but in the end will end up different cause you will always use different elements/colors or maybe it just sounds
different cause you’re technically incapable or lazy. But yeah there are so much artists that blew me away its too much to mention…starting from when I was young I wanted to be Underground Resistance, Aphex Twin, Orbital, Unit Moebius etc. all the usual suspects.

You’ve had a vast number of releases over the years through the 90’s, the last decade and beyond,
you clearly have a passion for it that is still burning bright.
What’s behind keeping you motivated for so long? Most people would be burnt out and jaded by now, how do you do it?

Always look for something new….you got to push your own music to new directions be open to all kinds of influences always keep searching for new music new instruments new cultures new ways of producing etc Its a giant journey of discovery or something

You’re extremely busy with writing, DJ mixes, releases, collaborations remixes and touring the US this month too. Does it feel like it has always been this way for you? Do you feel sometimes you want to stop and take a breath? How do you cope with it as it can be mentally very draining.

Well its not the hardest thing in the world, its all pretty dream-like and thats what it feels like I guess it doesn’t feel mentally draining at all, on the contrary its an extremely inspiring energetic job…i get to make music, travel the world be in all kinds of crazy adventures…i feel very privileged every second I am doing this cause I couldn’t have dreamed this when I started making music

Are there any mistakes you have made along the way that you wouldn’t want to wish on anyone else?

Hmm not really maybe I shouldn’t have sold my Oberheim Matrix 6

What are your thoughts on social media? Do you think it’s a valuable tool for musicians or something that’s just a passing phase that will be superseded. Maybe even go back to more physical and emotional experiences again. Hence maybe why festivals are getting bigger and bigger.

I don’t really think about those things, I got twitter I like that cause its fast and very fragmentary and pretty much doesn’t make sense at all…its not really that important to waste your brain cells thinking about. I stopped using Facebook cause its pretty fucked up in a way, becoming a kind of evil institution where people just give all their information and give up their privacy just like a bunch of mindless sheep. Apart from that for most people Facebook is just a thing to show off how cool and great you are…I guess twitter is all that too but kind of different I used to have a Legowelt Facebook thing but last year I just deleted it. There is still a Legowelt fan Facebook or something but I got nothing to
do with that its run by some weird fan but people think its me and mail that guy or something its kinda fucked up and scary.

What would you say to artists or labels starting now, as it is so hard to become established.
What have you learnt that you think could apply to people starting today in electronic music?

Just don’t give a fuck about anything and don’t expect anything I have no further advice

How do you think music will be consumed in the future? What’s the forecast for your productions and where do you see them ending up? I could easily imagine some cool product tie ins with a Legowelt soundtrack.

I have been thinking of that sometimes how music will be in the future, I think there will be new breakthroughs in how we perceive music…i dunno exactly what or how but there will be probably some scientific discoveries about frequencies and how they affect the brain or mind or whatever…
It will be a much more intense experience…either by just amplifying the frequencies in certain ways, new kinds of speakers/sounds/implants or whatever…not sure how but it will go this way as I have a feeling that sound/music is a very fundamental energy in the time space continuum. Then there will be a time when music will be taken much more seriously and become more sacred like it used to be in times of the dawn of man. I don’t think i will see this in this lifetime it will probably take another few hundred years before we get there.
As for my own productions I have no idea were I will take it thats all going to be a surprise for me and the listener

Most of the time I find these things very boring ( watched a Ritchie Hawtin one and hurt my nose nodding off into the keyboard), but this man was just so cool, had to post it. Loved this , I would love to have the chance to play music like this as a DJ again one day. This is the way to do it, doesn’t matter if it’s vinyl, cd, digital, not perfectly mixed, just bang the party. Loved it, don’t just sit there, watch it!

Positive Thinking – Surviving Negative Environments

In this video I’ll teach you how to deal with negative environments

You will find plenty of these wherever you go, simply because there are a lot of negative people around, so again a hazard you have to deal with regularly

1) Use Your Instincts
2) Keep Your Shields Up
3) Look Confident
4) Try To Change

1) Your instincts are your number one best guide, if you have a bad feeling about someone or a place, it is usually right. So if you get a feeling you shouldn’t go into that club, or bar, listen! Go somewhere else where you feel better about it.
If you feel like you need to walk or drive a different route today, do it.
Your instincts are trying to look after you, they don’t speak, they just try to tell you by feeling.

2) If you have to be in a negative place, like an office for example, many of us do, try to hang onto your energy and protect yourself as much as you can.
Very similar to dealing with negative people, be friendly, be pleasant, but don’t reveal too much, or anything personal that can be used to undermine you and gain power over you. Do what you need to do to survive, but don’t be a slave to it.

3) Look confident, don’t appear to get upset or get too emotional, it again appears as a weakness. Fine to do that when no one else is looking. Emotions are what make you more powerful than anyone else. But they’re used against you in negative situations. That’s why people who display fear are more likely to be victims, because people can instinctively read your fear, so mask it as much as you can.

4) Try to change negative places for more positive ones, you are in charge of where you go, what you do, so keep working on improving every aspect. Where you live, work, socialize. Upgrade them one by one.
Try to think of the end result of the great places you will be when you change, rather than focus on the bad situation you may be in, don’t focus on the obstacles, look ahead to the end result.
