New Year and 2011 Recap

2011 recap:

Skatedium new obstacle, mini quarter.

Mom went for Umrah while I was still in semester.

Mom had a spinal surgery which I couldn't sleep because I did all the research i could to find out the risks involved. I know she was scared, I was too, but everything points out that it's a safe procedure. And the surgery was a success. Yay! Well, right after that I had my semester exams.

Went to KL with my friends.

My step sister passed away. Al-Fatihah we miss you.

I passed that semester.

Bought mom iPad 2.

Continued on to the 3rd semester.

Mom went for Haj', so 1 month of extra added responsibility.

I created a video stabilizer. Spent a little too much on research. 3months of development.

Finally bought an iPhone.

Had another exam for the 3rd semester just after mom got back from Haj'.

I started running at 4th December, having rests only on Sundays.

I passed the exams again!

Had my first fishing session after a long time. Brought Vijay and Mawie out to fish at Sungai Basar, and met Zazu.

4weeks of running, I covered 70km for the month of December 2011. Although no change in weight haha I'm sure my muscles are pretty much conditioned now.

Liking forward 2012.

Stage 1

We'll start with the brick wall, 60 bricks (exact amount 44bricks), 1 cement bag and 2 tongs of sand. There are 4 levels, 11 bricks each level.

Stage 1 Cost:

60 bricks = $12

1 cement = $9

2 tongs = $6

Stage 1 Total = $27

STAGE 2 (DAY 2-3)

For this stage, we must have a lot of stuff (whatever stuff to fill in e.g. soil, rocks or extra bricks from stage 1) to make the quarter shape. This way we don't have to waste/spend a lot of cement for the fill.

Stage 2 Estimated Cost:

4 cement = $36

sand = (we'll use sea sand)

Stage 2 Total = $36

side note/suggestion: i think its better to buy more bricks and we'll just shape it into a quarter setting. So then, we just pour the cement layer over and shape it nicely. The picture is only a sample. 100 bricks will be alright for filling.

Finally, in this stage, we'll start mounting the rail, add more shape to the quarter and lastly smoothen the concrete surface.

REQUIREMENTS:

jailbroken iPod or iPhone with iFile installed (get it from Cydia, its a freeware)
TextWrangler software on your mac.

INITIAL STEPS

install GodFinger from Appstore.
play the game for a few minutes then exit.
go to iFile.
Navigate to "/User/Applications/(some random numbers)/Library/com.ngmoco.platform/" you should see this file godgame3-config.dat [Note: at the Applications folder, there will be a bunch of folders with random numbers on it and one of them is the GodFinger folder. Check the folders by trial and error. if you see godgame3.app, you're on the right track!]
Copy godgame3-config.dat to your mac and keep an original for backup (just in case!).
Open the file in TextWrangler and you'll see a bunch of codes.

THE HACK

The computing technological advancements and the effects it has on civilizations have always captivated me, and generated within me a deep interest for this field. My passion for the subject grew when I chose Computer Studies, as part of my secondary education.

During the holidays before entering Sixth form, I published my first website online by self-studying on using Microsoft Frontpage. I started using the software more often to build a couple of websites which one of them is still running till this day (www.md0405.co.nr).

After I was done with my A levels, I started investing on books that could teach me how to make money online. After reading several books and months of research in the holidays, Internet Marketing has opened up my view on how computing and business merged together. I set out to do a project on my own which is setting up an online store using a blogging platform (blogger.com) and sell items via affiliate marketing. I received my first check in a few months. I was very satisfied even though the pay was low, because that gave me more drive to learn about computing so that I can improve on the quality of my work. When I compared my sites to Ebay, Sony and other well known companies, I do realize that the quality and functionality of my websites are not that much and theirs are far more advanced.

From then on, I began to use different software such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop for better web design. I also delve into different computer languages like CSS, JavaScript and PHP. But it was very daunting; they are complex and hard for me to learn on my own.

Other than messing around with my computer at home, I enjoy skateboarding with my friends. I was lucky enough to be involved in small projects on making cemented skate obstacles at a local skate park. Our goal was to bring back our local skate scene. My main responsibility was to design and make an estimated cost by using Google Sketchup (3D rendering software). I was the person who holds the money for the projects and I was looked up as one of the leaders in the group. So people do rely on me and I had to give a lot of commitment to the project and present good leadership and communication skills (www.skatedium.blogspot.com/search/label/projects). Often, everything went smoothly, we managed to finish the projects and reached our goal.

All in all, I am a very passionate person, I have a strong will to learn and I am sure that by applying to this particular course I will have a greater understanding and use the knowledge I have gained to be innovative.

i woke up early like around 8am haha yes, that's early to me lol and i just knew that its just gonna be a good day!

its been a long time since i organized the things in my drawer, because i don't usually take anything out from it. so, what's inside? passport, bank book, diary (the one which has calendars, not the personal type), certificates, pictures, picture albums, movie tickets, more movie tickets, white bills (the one that you usually get after withdrawing money from ATMs), restaurant bills and more bills LOL. that's basically everything and its all a mess.

this ticket reminds me of my first business experience. the gala night was a success but it was a major disaster business-wise. we had to borrow money and yet did not make enough to pay off the amount we asked for.

i think we were all too busy thinking about the events but not on the marketing part. we solely rely on the people we know who are in the same batch to purchase the tickets and hoping there will be a lot of people. although we have back up plans in case the tickets didn't get sold out but it was an unreliable solution since we didn't have much time left for marketing. it was just too little too late.

these are the movie tickets that i have collected from my past relationship, its quite a lot. i checked out the dates on the tickets, we've watched movies for almost 10 times in 2 consecutive months. damn, i never realized that before, i just knew that we were spending a lot of time slacking haha we'll go out for a movie if the times get tougher like if there is too much work , stress and all. but the thing is, we go out all the time lol

why did i collected the tickets? for no particular reasons though hehe its just a normal reaction, i comeback home, open up the drawer, put the tickets in and close the drawer.

if those are the movies tickets, you guys ain't seen nothin' yet LOL what about the restuarant bills?? haha its so crazy when i look at them. its like, what the helll were we doing??? we have breakfast, lunch and dinner outside like almost everyday haha.

other than that, i found some pictures of me and her in between the picture albums, i don't remember how it got there and i don't even remember printing them out. i guess its been awhile.

looking at the pictures got me reminiscing for awhile. do i miss her? i don't know but i don't think so, maybe a little LOL. life is just too good being single. im able to do whatever i want and achieve whatever i possibly can without any 'interruption'.

im aware of our differences but things just didn't go as planned, y'know, a happy ending... the only thing i remembered the most in the relationship is how stupid i was on making decisions. i end up ruining my own relationship only trying to ....argh~ forget it!!

so that's all i did in the morning, i went to UBD at noon and do what 'uni people' do. met some of the guys that i haven't seen for ages. after that, go window shopping and i had to look for a light bulb for my study lamp. its actually a pretty hard one to find. i went to HuaHo Bunut but its not there. then i went to HuaHo Manggis, and finally found it.

then on the way out, i saw her, my ex. she didn't notice me though but that's ok. i pretty much wanted to avoid her from the beginning, why? she was in a hair salon getting her hair washed haha maybe one day we'll have a chat face to face.

talking about hair salon, i just realized that i haven't cut my hair for 6 months!

"Random: Security loves me LOL im blacklisted!"

so after that, i went back home for awhile, then i'm off to the skatepark! i skate almost everyday now. i just wanna get to my previous lifestyle back. study everyday, skate everyday. as usual, the skatepark is very much alive, im so happy about it. i can't wait for the next project with RPS (Rock-Paper-Scissors) , something about a skate clinic where the public can get the chance to try skateboarding or inline-skating while other skaters can teach. no confirmed date yet and i hope its not gonna happen during my exams.

went home by 7pm, rested for one hour then i was off to Sg.Besar, FISHING! with Met, Dr.Charles and BB...and our senior,Rosli too. i was thinking twice if i should go fishing or not coz i was so tired after 2 hours of sk8 session. but i really miss seeing them and i haven't fish for quite awhile, so i decided to go.

since i haven't seen them for a long time, especially Dr.Charles and BB i know they'll ask me what the hell am i doing and where the hell am i that they don't see me in campus that much, so i had to give them a little update of what i have been up to. i'd love to tell the whole story of the fishing trip but i'm just too tired now hehe maybe i'll put the story on utikanglers. well, the main thing is, i really had a good time! we caught one catfish and one stingray! and Dr.Charles let them go hahaha

i reached home by 12am (29-March). i looked very pale, i don't know why and i find myself unable to sleep. so i grabbed a book and went to the living room to read it. i finished reading by 4am and still not sleepy, so i go online and blog. yes, im literally blogging at the moment =p

so thats it, here's the summary, morning: clean my drawer, noon: went to UBD, afternoon: window shop and saw my ex, late afternoon: went for skateboarding, night til midnight: fishing, midnight til 4 in the morning: reading and now: blogging.

it started as an idea...

there was me, Nas, Azri, Bobby and Kim. we were skating at the stadium under the bridge (near the ticket booths). there were not much to skate there since the obstacles are wooden and already damaged so we all sat down after a few sessions of flatland tricks.

then Nas asked me, "dude, how would you like to invest some money to make a cement ledge?".

"hey, sure! but you really wanna do this?", i answered.

then Mr. Architect - Azri butts in, "that's a great idea, i can sponsor some cash to make it happen".

from that, the planning started. at first, i didn't know how much i could contribute for the project, but then since Azri mentioned about how i can make designs from a software (Sketchup), that became the base of my contribution.

i had to know every specific details and dimensions of the materials we're gonna use, for example, i need the dimension of a standard size brick (9"x4"x2.5") so that i can trasnlate it to the design software. i had to work out the estimated cost for the whole project.

once the estimated cost is set, then we collected money to get the project started.

its amazing that how many people have helped us through out the projects. btw, i didn't just design the whole thing but i worked at the site and do the masonry work most of the time. i guess i have contributed a lot more, i sacrficed a lot of my time and energy becuase i know what we, the project managers =p, have visualized.

it wasn't just to have something to skate but it was about having a place to skate.

for years, the skatepark at the stadium has been deserted, we can't really rely on the government to do something about developing or making a concrete skatepark. so by buildling the skatepark ourselves little by little, we'll create presence, hence at the same time grow the skateboard/extreme sports community (by making competitions and other events) and hopefully from then on, will become a centre of attention to prove the goverment that there is a community in need of a training facility to be built for the future generation.

eversince we have built the 2 structures, the skatepark became very lively. in one day, there can be more than 10 people at the park, that to me is a lot of people to be skating 2 obstacles lol. we're so relieved that our vision is....a reality.

the 2 projects we did is just a small step towards our longterm goal. so now, we ask ourselves,

"what's next?"

i've been busy recently doing a project with other true fellow skateboarders. our project is to make a concrete ledge with limited materials and time. basically, we expected to finish the project in one day, but problems do occur anytime, anywhere and any how.

this is what we've got so far, all in a days work.

first, we expected the site to have some leftovers sand because a few years ago, there was. now, its an ant hill. it was useless. even if we try, it would take time to make it into fine grains.

second, we didn't have the skills to work on the project at a steady rate. luckily there was one or two representative who knew how cement mixing and other processes works. from there, we learned to do what was needed to do. the learning curve took a lot of time as all of us were trying to be very careful because it is cement and we only get one shot.

bricks are immersed in water so that the cement-sand mix can have better attachment plus removing air pockets in cracks that could jeopardize on the overall structure itself.

tomorrow (Sunday) is gonna be another day of construction work and i am suppose to sleep to get in top shape for the project. i really hate the word 'hope' but for now, i'll make an exception, i HOPE we can get everything done by tomorrow, we MUST! there are:

finish off layering bricks (inner + 4th layer)
fill (broken bricks + dirt + stones)
set angle irons
plastering

i mustn't underestimate how short the list is, but it's definitely gonna take a few men hours to work on. i really wanna get this project over with as soon as posiible because i got other things lined up to do, like making money online LOL

i just love cats, they're very cute and good stalkers too but lazy ass house cats haha but that don't matter to me. as long as they stay loyal to me then they can be as lazy or as dependent as they want to be hehe.

i'd say i have had about a dozen cats but most of them ran away to search for the real cat life, or stray cat life? i don't know~~. now, i only have 5 cats left, 2 adults and 3 kittens! i never really liked the idea of keeping them in a cage, so they were raised cage-free except for kittens. but even when i caged the kittens, there's a hole for the mom to go inside the cage, hmm is my cage still considered a 'cage'? hehe

anyways, so far, there's only one cat that has been truly loyal to my family, he has been around for about a year now and he has grown big and noisier lol he's my friend to talk to when i couldn't sleep late at night til the morning. basically he's my companion if i got my sleeping problem. but now that he has a family, he's been busy haha

i was looking for my screw set in my closet but then i noticed my junk box toppled down from where i kept it before, leaving the things inside it scattered and there was my white mobile phone that caught my attention.

its a Nokia 3660, i've used it back in MD [04] til in the first year of UBD [06-07] and that's about 3 years of usage. it can't receive any signal anymore, i can't remember what happened to it. it must've fell down or i threw it in an argument on the line with Emma, i think.

the last time i remember carrying it was during a trip to Temburong for a uni course. it was already broken back then, yet i brought it along because it was able to receive signal but it didn't last long.

anyways, i'm posting a few messages here, i'll post something that brings back a few memories back in the days lol

i think he watched too much 300 haha! we were going out for our pggmb madang reunion. i think only a few of us managed to go for the reunion since most of our ex-classmates were overseas but none the less it was good meeting some of them. 15 years ago, we were just kids, talking trash, showing who got the coolest toy or gadget, fighting each other, doing pranks and most of the time just getting ourselves into trouble. but now, talking to them or see them interacting showed how they all have matured through the years. damn! we're getting older!

i get this message almost everyday back then, i felt like a slave! we did talk about how we were treating each other and i think i told her to be a little bit more independent but it didn't work haha i was pretty much dominated, manipulated and most of all, in love. i just didn't want to hurt her feelings or see her sad. this shows how naive i was in making decisions, i rather see her happy no matter what.

anyways, like my friend said "never regret a relationship but learn from it". and another good friend said, if we're meant to be together then we really meant to be together [its actually pretty long, but i found a way to make it short LOL]. thank you guys :)

"kekeke" that's her trade mark haha no other people i know uses that more than her. its good that she always end her sentences like that because it enhances the sentence and kinda gives a good vibe to it, kekeke!

2009 CHANGE OF DIRECTION

happy new year! alright, im done with 2008, it makes me sick thinkin' of LAST year! its one of the worst years i've ever had in my life. now that i am single too, i think im going stay this way for i donno how long haha but im sure this is the way how i want to be for now. i keep on losing my feelings for someone so fast these days, probably something is holding me back. i do feel lonely at times, i do feel like i need someone but yet at the same time i don't think i can start another relationship yet. i know im fine now, but im not fine about myself (i wonder if that makes any sense LoL). talking about this topic is wasting time and it just brings back old memories so lets move on to the next part.

since i dont have anyone special to care or miss or think about now, i might as well need a replacement for that. and, what i have decided is that i will be using this blog to express my ideas, ideas which i think will benifit people in some ways or even create oppurtunities in the future.

since last year, i've been jotting/typing down ideas that includes practical business ideas and inventions. i must say that this is one the reasons why i hardly get enough sleep. i think of something and like my lecturer said "too much imagination", though i won't put it that way, for me, i'd say "visualization". the easiest way to explain this is, if you have seen an AutoCAD or any software program like Google SketchUp, well, its like that. the more i think of things, the more details i will get from the visual image and it just goes on and on.

i think i'm pretty close to a condition called low latent inhibition, its nothing to be proud of haha. lets say if i see a mechanical pen, i see through it almost like an x-ray, i locate the different parts in it, what materials would it be for each part and etc. yes, i must be crazy but im not. well, here's the crazy part actually, it happens when i see things that i don't know or big structures like a building, i'll see where the foundations are, cement thickness and lots more, its TOO MUCH! the longer i stare at such sight, the more details will come to mind. its almost uncontrollable at some point that the best thing to do is to close my eyes and relax. but its thanks to this condition that i'm able to think of designs way before i reach for a pen and paper or my laptop to draw what i have visualized.

i think im just talking crap here LOL, God i need some sleep HAHA, but seriously, thats how i see things.

alright, going back to the subject of ideas, so far, i've got about 20 ideas as of last year, although i don't think all are that good but that is for you to decide :)

ok ok, the point is, i will be sharing my ideas with you! let it be the best or worst idea i got, i'll blog it up!

I'll try not to make this too formal and as if I were to present a portfolio or something, but hey, the things you are about to read came from Dan himself =)

ABOUT ME - my name is Danial, born on 23rd November 1987, a Muslim, I'm an undergraduate in UBD, major in Biology. I'm left handed, i don't exactly know why i always mention this but i hope you're a lefty too in some ways LoL. Sports activities? skateboarding and swimming. I enjoy fishing with my friends. I love nature, I'm an outdoor person for sure! therefore, I love my country! and I love my family! lol I have always wanted to do engineering and business, and I'm working on that at this moment.

beyond here - my journey as a web developer and in the internet scene

I'm a self thought web developer, i do not have any certification but i can only claim that i am hehe. Just after leaving secondary school (Sekolah Menengah Berakas - SMB) I made my first website back in 2003 (using MS frontpage) and started blogging in 2004 using the sites i made. I was more obsessed with designing websites rather than blogging, so I mess around with codes more than I type about day to day things back then.

I stopped building websites in 2005 as i was entering upper six in Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah (MDPMAMB). In 2006 after finishing A-levels, I did not continue building websites since I did not have any purpose to make one.

On the same year, after entering UBD (by the way, i was in ITB for 3 weeks! but then i transferred) i started to invest in books on internet marketing which have gained me enough knowledge of ways to earn money online.

So from 2006 to middle of 2008, i was reading a lot, really a lot on business lol (if my lecturers sees this, I'm dead!) then I felt that it was time to put down the books and it was time to do the real thing. The other half of 2008, i started polishing back my web developing skills and the blogging era has already started in Brunei, the trend was overwhelming.

I started using blogger.com, at first it was extremely hard due to the use of CSS, which i was not very familiar with (i was only able to read HTMLs). FYI, i don't like using ready-made templates, i prefer to make one! =) After a few months of learning by hard / 'trial and error', i was able have a grasp on CSS, then I proceeded on applying simple javascripts to my sites.

Early 2009, I made my first international online business, which is selling Marc Ecko/Zoo York clothes via affiliate marketing, but it took tremendous amount of work for me so I stopped (i can only rely if my site is highly trafficked which also means i need more capital to generate such number of visitors, conversion rates and other factors bla bla bla~~). It was too huge for me. Promoting products internationally? I don't think I'm ready for that. I could've gone further but I think it was best to leave and move on to other things - experience something new.

After a few months of looking for ideas, I knew I wanted to start something locally then I came up with the idea of providing a very easy service where people can just fill up a form and submit items on whatever they want to sell, for free of course. Other than that, I wanted the site to also feature local businesses. After that I began my research on how to create forms, its the first task that I needed to achieve. It was learning another language for me, it was PHP. As a matter of fact, i almost gave up with my idea, Php is hard!!! (maybe i was just in a rush) I was stucked for 2 months and luckily, i managed to pull through =)

Once I figured out the problem of making online forms, i moved onto javascripts, most javascripts are ready made and are easy to apply, that only took me a few months to research for the right combination of java scripts to come up with for the final web design. And then, Brumarket was born~~
