COMPANY OF THIEVES ANNOUNCE REUNION TOUR

Indie group Company of Thieves announce they will be re-uniting to tour, 10 years after their independently recorded and self-released debut record, “Ordinary Riches” was released. The cult band comprised of Genevieve Schatz, Marc Walloch and Chris Faller will also be releasing a new single this summer, the first song in 6 years.

"In a time of painful cultural divide we are thankful to be coming back together in the name of love and music," the band announced. Over a decade ago, as Company of Thieves’ founding members, Genevieve Schatz and Marc Walloch sat across from one another on the train platform at Union Station in Chicago and became fast friends over a conversation about The Beatles. The band quickly became a favorite amongst the Chicago indie rock community. After scraping together recording funds, the kids took a risk and independently released their debut album “Ordinary Riches” in 2007. They soon played SXSW, got discovered and re-released "Ordinary Riches" via Wind-Up Records in 2009, following up with their sophomore LP, "Running From A Gamble," in 2011.

With industry and personal struggles, the band took a hiatus and decided to pursue other creative outlets in 2013. Genevieve went on to release a solo EP “Show Your Colors” and tours the material accompanied by Chris. Marc released a solo record “Through The Seasons” under the moniker Spill, and also plays bass for AWOLNATION. The time spent apart for the band was an important step in each member’s journey to self-discovery, whether it be musical or personal, but ultimately, fate played it’s hand of cards.
“We had been playing music separately and had been missing each other immensely. We would run into each other at venues and shows in LA and get misty eyed,” says Gen of Marc. “One night Chris and I were driving after a show and a car clipped the back of us. It was this moment where my life flashed before my eyes, and I thought - oh my god, I miss Marc so much.” Shortly after, the band embarked on a camping trip, where they built a fire together and expressed their longing to bring Company of Thieves back to life.

My CoT story...

In December of 2008 I discovered a small video on YouTube for "Oscar Wilde" by Company of Thieves. I was immediately drawn in. The lush melodies of Marc Walloch's intricate guitar work combined with the powerful vocals of Genevieve Schatz created an undeniable musical landscape full of passion and honesty. At that time, their independent debut album Ordinary Riches was unavailable, but would soon be re-released on iTunes. I also discovered that they previously released an acoustic EP that was no longer in circulation. My mission was clear and I was intent on doing whatever it took to get my hands on this music. Armed only with a single .mp3 of Oscar Wilde, a friend and I jumped into my car and drove two hours in the dead of winter to see Company of Thieves perform. Their live performance was amazing, and I walked away with the original independent release version of Ordinary Riches in my hands! I was hooked. Now I had track down this acoustic EP that I had only read about online.

I had the fortunate opportunity to see Company of Thieves live for a second time a few weeks later. After their performance the band members took some time to talk to the fans in the audience, and I questioned them on the whereabouts of this mysterious acoustic EP. Much to my surprise, guitarist Marc Walloch offered to make a copy of the CD, and asked me to send him my mailing address. Now, they just recently embarked on a nationwide tour for Ordinary Riches, but true to his word Marc took the time to make a copy, found a FedEx while on the road, and delivered it. I received a package in the mail with the Tourniquet Acoustic EP safely sealed inside just a few days later. The padded envelope read "Love, Peace, and Music - CoT."

Company of Thieves' debut album Ordinary Riches is a complete work with an infectiousness that has kept it on infinite repeat since the day I discovered it. All of the band members are such genuine and beautiful individuals that its no wonder that their music touches people in the way that it does.

Now in 2011, their second studio release Death of Communication shows the evolution of their music after a rigorous two years on the road. I had the good fortune to catch CoT live a couple of times in support of the new album, and they still continue to amaze! Unfortunately, a packed schedule and other obligations have limited my ability to update the Dangerous Indeed blog pages, as well as my YouTube and Vimeo pages dedicated to CoT.

The world has yet to see what Company of Thieves will become, and I will be watching and supporting them every step of the way!

Company of Thieves Announce New Album, On Tour With The Whigs

Chicago-based band Company Of Thieves have announced that their new album, Running From A Gamble, will drop on May 17th. To celebrate the new disc, the band has also released a free MP3 of the album track "Modern Waste."

A follow up to 2009's Ordinary Riches, Running From A Gamble was spearheaded by singer Genevieve Schatz and guitarist Marc Walloh, who wrote much of the new material. “The album is a coming of age adventure about the mysterious, passionate and painful transition from dependence and enchantment to autonomy and awareness,”Genevieve says. The album's first single, "Death of Communication," will be released to radio later this month.

Company of Thieves are currently on tour with The Whigs, and are set to play a gig with Hall and Oats at Highland Park for Illinois' Ravinia Festival on June 26th. Listen to and download "Modern Waste" and look at the list of tour dates below
