Group of Colorful Pansies

Funny how I have so many different subjects to write on when I am not at the computer, and how they all seem to just disappear. I can't remember what I wanted to write now as I stare at the computer screen.

Another week is here, and I am getting a hang of "texting" on my new smart phone. There is a convenient to have this option, such as when I don't want to talk but just want a quick quirky hello.

Still there are lots of other things on the phone that I have yet discover, and lately I came across the word "instagram" app, which is a photo editing software for smart phones. I am curious but also hesitating since I don't have much free time. (Is there such a thing as free time?)

So Dances in my head are these questions:

1) Do you have this instagram app on your cell phone?

2) Do you use it often, or find it fun to have?

Wild Critter

We moved here about two years ago, and our house is big enough for the three of us, plus a nice backyard. The house situated behind tall walls which gave it the privacy that we loved. No one can see in, and we can't see out.

However, there are advantages and disadvantages as well in this set up. For example, two weeks straight now we found dog dropping right by our gate every day, and we couldn't see the dog. It was such a nasty sight to see in the morning, and whoever owned that dog is a very irresponsible person.

We have to clean up this pile of dropping constantly, and I finally had enough. I went looking for some type of solution to deter this dog from doing its business, and one of the customers told me to use cayenne pepper flakes to spread around that area. (Yup, Icy told me the same!.)

It seemed to work so far, and Dances in my head are these questions:

1) Are you a responsible pet owner, such as picking up your pet's dropping especially at someone else's house?

2) What other natural things can I do to keep this dog from coming back to do its business?

Catching Up With Technology

Cell Phones

My cell phone broke down last week while I was on the phone with Icy. I mean, it just went dead, like a snap of fingers. Lucky it was Friday night, there was no emergency, no important phone call to make, and everything was taken care of.

I probably left Icy wondering, but that lady is always too busy to care about dropped calls. The next day we went to Costco and sign another two years contract. I finally got a smart phone. Yay...with text, and internet! I know, I am a late comer into this fast technology world, but I didn't see the need before.

DANCES in my head are these questions:

1) Do you find smart phones necessary in your life?

2) Are they worth the extra money for text and internet every month?

The Problems With Critters

Wild Weed Flowers

Time flies, and I forget to set up a post! There are reasons for it, and I will rain on your parade with my problems. Just kidding! Our house is under attack by gofer, and mole. Seriously!

Every day there are new holes in our yard, and new dirt pushing up by these critters. The city won't do anything about it, and the professionals want my life savings if they come out for the job. We decided to render our money and invested in purchasing traps ourselves.

My husband is busy days and nights trying to keep up with these critters, fixing the backyard then front yard. In fact, we are not the only one with these problems, but many people in our neighborhood having the same issues.

DANCES in my head are these questions:

1) What would you do if you have gofer and mole in your yard?

2) Do you think the city should take care of these critters for its residents?

Gathering For Breakfast

I love to see birds in my yard and set up two feeders right outside my mud room's window. The common birds that come for food include sparrows, mourning doves, cardinals, and blue jays.

Critters On the Driveway

Squirrels are not welcome as they are very destructive and scare these birds away, but they still come and break down the feeders making a big mess in the yard. Can you see the squirrel in the background digging? Yes, my lawn is full of holes!

Still Cautious

The mourning dove is the shiest of all. It always keeps an eye on me and ready to take off when there is noise. At this time of the year, it seems that these critters also come in pair. This dove has a partner too, but he/she was far off from the lens!

Beautiful Red and White Tulip

Beautiful Red and White Tulip

It is amazing to see the creation by human such as this beautiful red and white tulip. The mixed of colors is just perfect and eye catching. I made a quick snapshot of this tulip as I was in WalMart, and they are notoriously known for their restriction about picture taking in their store.

Some stores are very welcoming, and love the fact that their names will be mentioned on blogs. They realize that this is a way to use "words of mouth" effectively, and there is a power in this traditional advertisement.

Human behavior also amazes me! I never thought that by taking over a blog would upset someone because I inherited 210 followers, and not "earned" my own followers if starting anew. The way I see it, we exchange avatars to just make our blogs look better! The proof is in the comments. With 210 followers, only 2 to 3 that come to visit.

You probably don't believe me, but this is a wild pansy, not one that you bought at the market and planted in your garden. This pansy bud is very small, and my camera was kissing it when I shot it.

Just so you can see, this little pansy grew among the weed, and if you didn't look down, or see these beautiful colors, you would have stepped on it. Did I mention it was very small?

I looked for the stem or branches of this pansy but couldn't locate it in this thick weed. I usually don't like the smell of pansy, but don't know if the wild one has a better smell.

I don't know about you, but when out taking pictures, I tend to just keep on clicking at one subject over and over again. My reason is fear of bad pictures, and I will not have a second chance. Once, the pictures are on my laptop, I then have a hard time pick just one to post!

I love this about the internet and digital camera. I can delete what is bad, and keep what is good without costing me an arm and a leg. All other issues such as storage space is also easy to solve by just buying an extra hard disk.

2) Do you post your best photos, or saving them for something else?

Can you see the female cardinal? This couple is in-separable, and I even witnessed tender moments between them. Oh, it was beautiful to see as they kissed!

I've decided to help these cardinal couple tending to the safety of their nest from the naughty squirrels. This is such a rare opportunity for me, even though I can't see the nest as I am trying to stay far enough away without disturbing them.

As I have mentioned in my last post about the cardinal watching over his nest, well now, meet his lady! She is his partner, and the mother of his future children. I haven't exactly spotted the nest yet, just the tree where this couple flying in and out.

However, this tree seemed to be very popular with the squirrels too, and I do hope they would leave the nest alone.

I love bird watching, and I love the challenge of catching a decent photo with my point and shoot camera. This is not a decent shot by any mean, too grainy, but this cardinal intense look caught me by surprise as he was watching the squirrels around his nest.

I can now tell what sound the cardinal makes, and what sound the blue jay makes. Other than these two distinct sounds, I'm clueless!
