Whether it’s about getting relief from the intense heat of the summers or cold waves of the winters, a central air conditioning is most required. Usually, an air conditioner has a life span of 15 to 20 years. You can use the old unit for a long time to avoid the expenses needed for buying a new one. However, remember that this method may help you save buying expenses but not the monthly utility bill expenses. Hence if you really mean to save money, consider buying new energy efficient central air conditioners.

In order to secure the best air conditioning deal, you have to follow certain tips. These tips are discussed below.

Tip 1:

Consider EER rating: While taking a look at the air conditioning systems, make sure to check the EER (Energy Efficiency Rating). EER should be 11.6 or more. EER indicates thermal expansion valve and high temperature efficiency of the unit. A conditioner with good EER rating means it can run well even during the hottest weather. Some conditioners also come with SEER ratings. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating.

Tip 2:

Pick the perfect size: Avoid buying a too small or too big central air conditioner for your home or office space. Small units will have to run longer to keep the place cool, which in turn, can increase your utility bill expenses or potentially lead to the damage of the parts. In fact, it may also fail to produce desired results during hottest days. On the contrary, if you buy a big unit, it may fail to eliminate humidity from the atmosphere due to its quick cycles. However, a proper sized conditioning system will ensure good performance, reducing energy consumption. In order to get an idea about the size of central A/C suitable for your home or anywhere you want to install it, contact HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) contractors first.

Tip 3:

Check the components: See if the air conditioning unit is fitted with a variable speed air handler and an automatic-delay fan switch. A variable speed air handler facilitates lesser energy consumption and proper air circulation. An automatic-delay fan switch is placed so that when the compressor is stopped, the fan also stops operating after a while. Due to this, the remaining cool air circulates on the indoor coil before the fan gets stopped. In addition, you can also see if the conditioner has a check filter light feature. This feature has been added to the system so that you can check the unit’s filter after the designated operating hours are over.

These are the basic points that you need to remember while buying an energy efficient central A/C for your home or office. As far as the maintenance is concerned, you can contact a well known air conditioning service and repair store for help.

In the hot months you love your air conditioner, and if it breaks things can get a little unbearable. It is also expensive to repair your ac, so here is a list of common problems to help you out a bit.

This is a short list of six common AC repair problems. I will state the issue, then suggest the different possibilities for fixing it, and approximately how much it should cost.

1. The first problem is when the outside AC unit doesn’t turn on. If there is no power to the unit then maybe there is a defective breaker or wires got burned/broken/etc. These problems should cost about $75-150 to fix. Perhaps the issue may also be a defective thermostat ($150) or transformer ($100).

2. Problem number two is when the circuit breaker trips when turned on. There are four possibilities here. First there might be a weak breaker ($100) or the condenser fan shorted to ground ($200-$300). A grounded compressor will put you back close to $1000 so that is the worst possible outcome.

3. The unit hums but the fan doesn’t work. This could be due to a defective fan motor ($250) or defective capacitor ($140). Burned wires could also lead to this problem and will cost around $75 to fix.

4. The fan works but the compressor does not. This could be because of burned wires again ($75) or capacitor ($140). You may also need to add more refrigerant (freon, etc) which can cost $25-$50 per pound of refrigerant. Worst case scenario is when you need to replace the whole compressor which is around $1000.

5. The outdoor unit runs but the fan won’t work. A defective blower motor will cost around $300 to fix, a defective evaporator coil will cost around $100 to fix, and broken wires or filters cost $50-$90 to fix. A defective capacitor will put you back about $100 and a new fan center will be around $200.

6. The AC is leaking water inside of your house. This can be because the drain stopped, which will cost around $100 to fix. Or it could be because the unit froze up which is an easy fix. Hopefully the problem is not because the evaporator coil pan rusted out because that will be around $1000 to fix.

I know this is not a super-detailed guide on how to fix your AC. But you can use it as a sort of troubleshooting guide to test out different problems when your AC starts acting up.

Homeowners and property managers in Dallas TX will benefit from this timely information about servicing your heating and cooling systems.

The scorching heat of summer can flay a person alive. To think of a life without an air conditioner is next to impossible. An air conditioner will give you the comfort that you are so seeking but at a hefty price. Did you know that an air conditioner makes up to 40% of overall energy consumption rate, which is almost 10 times more than the electricity consumed by a normal rotary fan? If you are desperately seeking to cut costs on the rising electricity bills, then this article is for you. Compiled in this article are tips to cut down on the sky rocketing utility bills without compromising on the comfort an air conditioner offers.

New vs. Old air conditioner

It is a well-known fact that an air conditioner tends to lose 5% of its functionality with each passing year. As the efficiency of a cooling unit declines over the years it will consume more energy to provide the same amount of cooling. If you are looking to improve energy efficiency of your air conditioner, you have two feasible options. Either you opt for a latest cooling units, which are specifically been designed for better energy efficiency, or make necessary modifications in your existing air conditioner.

Clean the duct

Over time, duct of an air conditioner is clogged with all kinds of gunk and dirt particles. If left untreated, the dirt particles get amassed and start entering the environment through the filter of the system. The wheezing out of dust particles can be especially harmful for people suffering from allergies or breathing problem. Regular cleaning of the duct will not only preserve the functionality of your cooling unit but also slashes down utility costs by half.

Replace the filter

Replace your AC filter at least once every 3 months. The filter of your AC serves dual purpose of cleaning both the air and internal components of the cooling unit. Without the filter, the efficiency of your cooling unit will be significantly reduced. A unit that works on old filters requires more energy to function, creating more pollution. If budget is your only constraint, you can also try using cheap disposable filters. By replacing your filters periodically, you will find you are saving more money on energy consumption than what you are spending in replacing the filters.

Proper insulation

No amount of effort on your side is going to render any desired results, until and unless you do not properly seal your home against draft. Make sure your home has enough amount of insulation to prevent cool air from escaping, increasing your energy costs. During summer, without proper insulation, the heat trapped in the roof space will easily penetrate through the ceiling, heating up the room. Your air conditioner has to work overtime and consume more energy to provide the right amount of cooling.

Use a fan

Having a ceiling fan will reduce the workload for an air conditioner; a fan will not actually cool the air, but circulate the air more efficiently which will help cool the room faster. Including exhaust fan in your home is also a good idea; the fan will suck out the heat from within the room making it cooler faster.

By applying these simple tips, you will be surprised by the amount of money you are able to save on your utility bill.

During summer, the most terrible of things you can experience is the relentless blazing heat. The high temperatures just won’t go down but instead seem to go up night and day. You lay awake at night trying to figure out where you can get an air conditioning service that works on weekends, but the temperatures are too high for you to concentrate. This article discusses the importance of hiring professional AC repair experts when your ac system malfunctions.

AC Installation:

Most people opt for professional air conditioning services when they wish to install a new AC in their homes or offices. Though AC professionals primarily offer installation services this is not service that they offer. A few other services offered by such technicians in addition to AC installation are repair, replacement and AC maintenance services. Because air conditioning units cost a considerable amount of money to purchase it is generally recommended that home owners with malfunction systems opt to repair rather than replace their units when they start malfunctioning. Regular maintenance of home air conditioning units keeps them from malfunctioning often and increases their durability.

AC Service:

One benefit of opting for a professional air conditioning expert is that such individuals, companies or services providers offer their customer air conditioning maintenance services which are quite important for the proper functioning these devices. In order for an AC to run both effectively and efficiently regular cleaning and maintenance or servicing is required. Air conditioning systems that are not properly maintained lose their durability and have a tendency to malfunction quite often which of course leads to extra financial burdens on homeowners due to the constant repair they require. In order to avoid the financial burden of having to pay for AC replacement services it generally recommended by industry experts that you schedule your air conditioning system for maintenance every 8 months to 12 months.

Access to expertise:

Another benefit of opting for a professional when it comes to AC repair is that of the expertise they offer. Most air condition systems installed in homes typically cost a substantial amount of money. As such when these vital home devices malfunction it is important to get someone who is experienced and has the required expertise need to make the necessary repairs. Attempting to take on such a task individually as a DIY project may unfortunately in more cases than not lead to more harm than good; sometimes requiring an AC owner to spend much more in replacing the appliance rather than repairing it. By opting for professional AC repair service you are able to limit the amount of money spent in rectifying the malfunction since such experts are well placed to identify and correct the precise problem.

David Jackson thought he was called to a home in Conroe to repair the heater. “Busy time of the year for ya huh,” an undercover FOX 26 Investigates producer asked Jackson upon his arrival. “Yea,” Jackson replied. But according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Jackson shouldnt be busy working on heaters and air conditioners because he doesnt have a license. “Without a license the state can come in and order a cease and desist,” said Susan Stanford with the states licensing department. And state licensing officials have one of those orders against Jackson. “Yes,” Standford said. “There is a cease and desist order against David Jackson.” But it sure looked like Jackson wasnt abiding by that order. “How long have you been doing this?” the homeowner askedJackson who replied, “All my life.” But the state has no record of Jackson ever having or even applying for a license. Candy Martin said she found out something even more troubling about Jackson. “We had a really strong odor of natural gas in our master bedroom,” Martin said. According to complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau, the Texas Attorney Generals Office and the Montgomery County District Attorneys Office, Martin paid Jackson 12 hundred dollars for a new heater. “He told me that the unit in question, the downstairs furnace had a cracked heat exchanger and that there was no way to repair it the entire unit had to be replaced” Martin said. Martins complaints allege Jackson didnt really install a new heater, he just applied sealant to the old one. “And stuck a Coleman sticker on the door to disguise a York furnace,” Martin said. Martins friend Ann makes the same disturbing allegation in her criminal complaint against Jackson. That he charged her 12 hundred dollars for a new heater but did nothing more than apply sealant to her old one. “I was furious to say the least,” Martin said. “Because in this day and age no one can afford to just throw away 12 hundred dollars.”

The purpose of the filter is to catch all the dust and dirt before it enters your living space. Clean filters maximize the efficiency of your heating and cooling equipment and will extend the lifespan as well. That’s not to mention that it your heating and cooling bills will be as low as possible.

Obviously, you need to turn off the furnace before you change it. Then locate paneled door that holds the filter in place. When you remove the filter notice which way the airflow goes and be sure and insert the new filter in the proper direction.

Electrostatic Furnace Filters

The best thing about electrostatic filters is that they are extremely efficient and will usually work far better than the throwaway cartridge type filters. These permanent filters need to be cleaned from time to time. They are washable and reusable. Simply rinse them with water and allow them to dry. Then you can reinstall them.

The condensing unit is usually located outside, on the side of your home. It should be sitting level on a concrete slab. The evaporator coil is located in the Plenum or the main duct junction. This is usually found above the furnace inside the home.

Most of the heating and cooling systems will be connected to your homes forced air distribution system, commonly known as ductwork. The same blower unit and ductwork used for cooling your home is also used for heating your home. When the air-conditioning unit’s operating, hot air inside the home flows to the furnace through the return duct. This air is moot by the furnace blower across the evaporator coil which is cooled and thus lowers the temperature of the air which is then returned throughout the house.

Sometimes there is a problem where the air conditioner is running but the house doesn’t cool. This is probably due to low levels of coolant, commonly known as Freon or Puron. A heating and cooling professional to come out and check your air-conditioning system and locate the cause of this malfunction. Be aware that R-22 refrigerant is no longer available, the EPA has mandated that it be eliminated. All new systems have a refrigerant designated as R-410a or Puron. And as usual, when the government messes with something it costs more, so don’t blame your HVAC guy.
