The Ayala-led telco added over 506,000 subscribers during the period for its Globe Prepaid brand, up 32% and 71% from last year and last quarter, respectively. This brought year-to-date Globe Prepaid subscribers to about 16.9 million, 7% higher than last year’s 15.8 million and 3% above previous quarter’s 16.4 million.

Meanwhile, its mass market brand TM gained close to 1.4 million subscribers, almost three times the level in the same period last year and almost twice the level in the previous quarter. As a result, net subscriber additions, including postpaid, increased substantially to 2.0 million, more than double last year’s level of about 984,000 and 90% higher than previous quarter’s 1.1 million net incremental subscribers.

As of end-March 2013, Globe total prepaid subscriber base stood at 33.3 million, up 13 percent year-on-year from 29.5 million the previous year, with the TM subscriber base growing by 20% on the back of affordable and competitive voice, SMS, and mobile internet offers for the DE market.

“Our mobile business remains fundamentally strong and continues to be in an uptrend given the success of the programs that we have implemented particularly, the revolutionary customizable plans that are now being enjoyed by our prepaid subscribers. Globe launches inbound calling offer for Koreans in the Philippines

According to NewMediaTrendWatch.com, “There were 67,364,898 internet users in Germany (representing 82.7% of the population) in mid-year 2012 (June 30, 2012).” Out of those numbers, Germany is “home to 23 million active gamers” making Germany as “Europe’s largest gaming market,” according to a study by the Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI). “Total games revenue grew to EUR 1.8 billion in 2010. Germany as a Gaming Industry Authority is Still Growing

In both instances, the modus operandi is to pull-out the WIMAX modem from legitimate subscribers on pretext of an upgrade. The modems are then reconfigured and sold at a one-time cost
payment.

In the first buy-bust operation, Jose Narcida, a resident of Moonwalk Village in Las Pinas City, is alleged to be behind such illegal activity. Following numerous reports of illegal pull-out of Globe WIMAX modems, a joint team from Globe Security, Anti-Fraud and Investigation division and police personnel conducted an entrapment operation last April 15 where Reynald Denapo of Dasmarinas, Cavite was arrested. He was caught in possession of a Globe WIMAX modem he was offering for sale in the amount of PHP3,500.

During police interrogation, Denapo claimed that the modem came from Jose Narcida, whom he met in July 2012. At that time, Denapo offered him an internet connection with the use of Globe WIMAX modem without monthly bills. He availed of Narcida’s offer for PHP2,500. Later on, Narcida was able to convince him to engage in buy and sell of WIMAX modem. Denapo agreed to assist in the entrapment operation against Narcida.

On the following day, April 16, an entrapment operation was staged against Narcida and he was arrested in possession of two Globe WIMAX modems. During interrogation, police found out that Narcida has been working as repairman for Teleserbis Corp., which until recently was engaged in a third- party agreement with Globe. He admitted selling reconfigured WIMAX modems.

Following inquest at the Dasmarinas Prosecution Office for violation of RA 8484, which is the Access Devices Regulations Act, Narcida was detained by police. Denapo, on the other hand, will be a witness in the case against Narcida.

Another joint entrapment operation conducted April 29 by police and Globe security team led to the arrest of three suspects, including two employees of Visa Tech, an accredited Globe contractor.

Nabbed were Mark Villanueva and Francisco Espino, who both work as an installer for Visa Tech and are both residents of Binakayan, Kawit, Cavite. Christoper Viado, 22 years old, a sales agent of JV Telecommunications Services residing in Mendez, Cavite, was also arrested following the entrapment operation.

Seized from the suspects were 3 modems and a vehicle used in illegal activity.

“We appeal to our subscribers to report to us any dubious offers they may receive from unscrupulous individuals engaged in illegal sale of our products and services. Rest assured that we will continue to work closely with police authorities in resolving these problems,” said Atty. Froilan M. Castelo, Head of Globe Corporate and Legal Services Group.

He added legitimate subscription of Globe products and services are available through Globe- authorized sellers and distributors as well as in numerous Globe Stores nationwide.

adidas King of the Road 2013: Runners, it’s time for you to gear up because adidas is now opening the registration for this year’s adidas King of the Road (KOTR), happening this July 7 at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

The 2013 edition of the adidas KOTR will allow runners to choose between the 16.8K and 10k race categories. The 16.8K-distance will have two sub-categories—Closed, which will be exclusive for Filipinos, and Open category for all nationalities. Male and female runners who will top the race from the Closed category will be crowned as the Philippines’ King and Queen of the Road and will represent the country in the adidas KOTR Southeast Asia Championship in Malaysia later this year.

On the other hand, the 10K-distance will have an added feature this year, the Student’s Relay category. The Students’ Relay category, created to encourage the youth to lead a healthy lifestyle, will be open exclusively to college and university students 25 years old and below. One male and one female student need to partner up and form a relay team, with each running a 5km leg. The winning pair will win cash prizes individually as well as for their respective schools.

Southeast Asia Roads Lead to Malaysia

Globe Offering Affordable Samsung Galaxy S4 Plans

Climb For Memory charity was founded in early 2010 by Dellis, soon after his granmother had passed away. His grandmother had been suffering from Alzheimer’s and Climb For Memory charity is meant to raise awareness as well as funds for Alzheimer’s disease by climbing mountains all over the globe. “We are rolling out additional fiber optic capacity in order to support our growing 4G LTE-HSPA+ service. Thus, we can easily cater to more mobile data traffic when demand is there. We expect this endeavor to help generate revenue support this year,” Globe Telecom President and CEO Ernest Cu said, noting that priority areas include Metro Manila, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao.

According to Cu, revenue increase from mobile data usage will be driven by customers’ growing bandwidth requirement as more and more people are engaged in social networking even when they are on the go.

The company’s rollout of more LTE and HSPA+ sites also bodes well with projections that the number of smartphone users in the country will accelerate over the next several years. Projections indicate smartphone penetration could reach 50% over the next three years, from latest estimate of 18% as of last year, Cu said.

He said the projected upsurge in smartphone penetration will be fuelled by more attractively priced smartphones and changing consumer usage of mobile phones as network coverage becomes more pervasive.

“The growing preference for smartphones will increase the use of mobile internet which, in turn, will help fuel our revenue growth,” Cu said, noting growth in demand for mobile data services, ranging from prepaid daily variants to postpaid unlimited mobile browsing.

Revenues from the company’s mobile business grew 5% quarter-on-quarter growth to a fresh record level of PHP17.331 billion in the fourth quarter, pushing full-year revenues to PHP67.189 billion, a 6% jump from the previous year.

Mobile browsing alone generated revenues of over PHP3.1 billion in 2012, a 55% surge when compared to PHP2.0 billion in 2011 attributed to increased smartphone penetration and the company’s continued launch of affordable mobile data plans.

On the other hand, revenues from its broadband business, leapt double digit by 16% to PHP8.721 billion in 2012, compared with PHP7.496 billion in the year-earlier.

Globe Telecom’s 4G LTE-HSPA+ rollout forms part of its $700 million network modernization program launched in November 2011.
