Check out my first power tootbrush (see photo above). It’s the Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide. Until now, I’ve always associated electric toothbrushes with kids. But my new Oral-B [Facebook | Twitter] toothbrush is definitely not a kid’s toothbrush. I could certainly use a high-end toothbrush like the Oral-B ProfessionalCare 5000. According to my dental hygienist, I suck when it comes to brushing my teeth. I brush and floss my teeth every night, but apparently I’m not doing a good job. The dentist even charged me $800 for a deep cleaning — that’s $200 per quadrant and four teeth cleaning visits. My poor toothbrush and oral care habits costed me both money and time. Plus it was embarrassing when the dental hygienist brought out a toothbrush and showed me the proper way to brush my teeth. According to my dental hygienist, I was doing a terrible job near the gum area.

My oldest daughter and I were invited to a tour of LAIKA Studios about six weeks ago. LAIKA is the animation studio that created Coraline. LAIKA’s next movie is ParaNorman (Focus Features), which opens in theaters this summer (August 17th). My daughter and I got a behind-the-scenes tour for the production of ParaNorman [Facebook | Twitter]. All production on ParaNorman took place in a huge, 151,140-square foot building in Hillsboro, Oregon. A large space was needed because ParaNorman had a crew of over 320 designers, artists, animators and technicians. At any given time during the shoot, there were 52 separate shooting units.

My family and I recently watched a screening disk for Otter 501 [Facebook | Twitter] . It’s a documentary about an orphaned sea otter pup. Next week is Food Allergy Awareness Week. To help increase awareness of food allergies, AllerMates [Facebook | Twitter] sent me a P.Nutty Peanut Allergy Wristband for my toddler. Anyone with a kid going to college soon? If you do, then you should consider purchasing The Ultimate College Preparation Blueprint by Dr. Christopher Anthony Lewis. The author sent me the title for review on my dad blog. I’ve actually been thinking about college since last month. That’s when my oldest daughter said she wants to go to Harvard or Yale. My oldest daughter is very bright and is a straight A student. But she’s only in the sixth grade so it’s way too early to tell if she has what it takes to get into an elite school like Harvard or Yale. I’m actually hoping she stays in Oregon or at least go to a school here on the west coast. The east coast is so far away.

My son and I saw an early screening of Marvel’s The Avengers last Monday. The film is about a band of superheroes, The Avengers, and their mission to stop Loki from conquering Earth. Marvel’s The Avengers opens in theatres everywhere next Friday, May 4th. My oldest son and I are really excited and can’t wait to see the movie. In case you can’t tell, we’re big fanboys. Earth Day is just around the corner so I thought I would share a DIY project I did recently. A few months ago I created some insoles from an old sheet of foam. I’m not positive about this, but I think the hospital gave us the foam when our last child was born three years ago. I saved the foam instead of throwing it in the garbage because I figure I could use if for something someday. Well now I have. I created a pair of insoles for my boots and another pair for my slippers. Why spend $10 to $20 on new insoles when you can make new ones by recycling old foam?

I was browsing through Amazon during my lunch hour when I noticed an announcement about J.K. Rowling’s new book: The Casual Vacancy. I already knew her new book is intended for adults and that it isn’t going to be about Harry Potter, but the description (see below) for the story sounds kinda boring. I sure hope the new book is a lot better than the summary. The Casual Vacancy hardcover will be available on September 27, 2012. A Kindle book version will also be available at the same time.

Organa Kids sent me the new Dougie in disguise DVD for review on my dad blog. Dougie, the main character, is a little boy with a great imagination. His sidekick is a dog by the name of Tim. The dog goes on all of Dougie’s adventures. According to the press material, there are actually two volumes in this series. The one that I’m reviewing, Volume 1, features thirteen episodes. Both volumes of Dougie in disguise are available now. Each animated DVD is about 105 minutes long and costs $19.95 each. Dougie in disguise is intended for children ages two to five.

I saw Mirror Mirror (Relativity Media) with my two daughters last weekend. The movie features Julia Roberts as the evil queen and stepmother [Question: why are stepmothers alway evil in fairy tales?]. Mirror Mirror is a family oriented film. Are you guys following March Madness this year? There are four teams left in the NCAA basketball tournament: Kentucky Wildcats, Ohio State Buckeyes, Kansas Jayhawks, and Louisville Cardinals. To be honest, I have not been following March Madness this year. None of the Oregon schools were invited. The only team I cared about now is Kentucky, and that’s because they have two players from Oregon. My tween daughter and I saw a screening of The Hunger Games (Lionsgate) Wednesday night. This movie is going to be a huge hit and we were very lucky to snag a couple of passes for the screening. According to the news, all the midnight showings last night were sold out. A bunch of my daughter’s six-grader friends went to the midnight showing even though it was a school night (classes start at 7:30 am at my daughter’s middle school). As you probably know, the film is based on the first book of The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. Below is a quick summary of the film. Last month, LiftMaster upgraded my garage door opener with a system that features MyQ Technology. My new LiftMaster garage door opener is super cool. It’s geeky, but easy to use. With their MyQ smart home technology, I can check the status of my garage door online or with a smartphone (iPhone, Android and Blackberry). Not only can I remotely check to see if my garage is open or close, I can also remotely open and close my garage door. Like I said before, their system is really cool. Thanks to Bigben Interactive, I’m giving away one of their new Parental Control kits for the Nintendo 3DS and Playstation 3 (PS3). My children love playing video games. If it was up to my kids, they would play all day long. Luckily, it’s not up to them. We’re big meanies, so we like to boss the kids around and tell them when they can play and when they have to turn off their devices. Unfortunately, that means we have to keep track of how long the kids have been playing. This is when the new Parental Control kits come in handy. Long, long time ago in a campus not so far away, I went to college and studied engineering.
