8 finalists selected for $100,000 Purdue life sciences competition

Eight finalists have been selected to compete for $100,000 on Nov. 10 at the sixth Purdue University Life Sciences Business Plan Competition, which highlights promising entrepreneurship efforts in the life sciences arena. The companies chosen to make formal business-plan presentations to the competition's 12 judges are Indiana Nanotech LLC, Cascade Metrix Inc., GlucaGo LLC, Nano-Rad LLC, Bombyx Technologies, Nanophage Therapeutics, Glytrix Inc., and Bioregeneration.

Law Firm Provides New Purdue Scholarship to Certificate in Entrepreneurship Program

Ice Miller LLP has created an endowed scholarship to benefit students at Purdue University. Fifty percent of the $25,000 fund will be provided to undergraduates in the College of Agriculture, and the remaining 50 percent will go to undergraduates enrolled in the Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program. Awards will be based on academic merit.

Senior retailing student Mark Napier, who is developing the high-tech motorcycle helmet Angel Eyes (which alerts emergency personnel in the case of an accident) claimed the $1,000 first prize in Purdue's entrepreneurial "Elevator Pitch" Competition. Napier bested 22 other teams in the undergraduate category. In the graduate, faculty, staff or Purdue Research Park contest, first place out of 10 teams went to Biomedical engineering graduate student Rush Bartlett for his product pitch on Hypoguard, a hypoglycemia injection tool.
