People complain about the bad things that happen to em that they dont deserve but they seldom mention the good. About what they done to deserve them things. I dont recall that I ever give the good Lord all that much cause to smile on me. But he did.
A three year old shiba inu living in NYC with a panache for all things style isn't my idea of a great foray into menswear, but the attention to detail and sleek execution make this a blog worth following. The dog is cute as expected, but the menswear advice is genuinely worth heeding, right down to the tie bar and boot selection. The headline might read, 'Man's Best Friend Outdresses Man'.
Archy was tired of Nat, and he was tired of Gwen and her pregnancy with all the unsuspected depths of his insufficiency that it threatened to reveal. He was tired of Brokeland, and of black people, and of white people, and of all their schemes and grudges, their frontings, hustles, and corruptions. Most of all, he was tired of being a holdout, a sole survivor, the last coconut hanging on the last palm tree on the last little atoll in the path of the great wave of late-modern capitalism, waiting to be hammered flat.
Straight from the pages of Esquire and Skateboard magazine; or somewhere in between. The combination of premium suede, full grain leather & brogue detailing along with the signature metal eyelets and waxed cotton laces offers up the best of Vans and a proper brogue shoe. I often criticized my parents home for resembling a museum. Not in the abundance of art or expensive things. There were no glass ornaments or bejewelled eggs. But in the unspoken rules of conduct. The guidelines you outlined for visiting friends. Where you can sit, how loud to speak and how to avoid unwanted fingerprints on the coffee table. What strikes me most about these Selby photographs of Cris and Marcelo Rosenbaum's home is the ways in which creativity is encouraged while still maintaining their carefully curated exhibition of beautiful things. They seem to live in a museum that offers itself up to fingerprints and spilled paint. A fine balance I aim to achieve myself someday.
I think the difference between a lie and a story is that a story utilizes the trappings and appearance of truth for the interest of the listener as well as of the teller. A story has in it neither gain nor loss. But a lie is a device for profit or escape. I suppose if that definition is strictly held to, then a writer of stories is a liar - if he is financially fortunate.
One glowing piece to the Sperry Fall 2011 offering is this handsome Seamate Chukka. Here's to hoping one day I'll smarten up and take Esquire UKs advice on the purchase of a good, solid pair of brogue shoes. Which says something like 'smart, but not too smart.' My eyes are set on #3, the Tan Archie Brogues by Grenson.
Good design is never without real world implications. The T20 Bamboo Electrical Bike is apart of an ongoing series of explorations by French designer Antoine Fritsch into the changing behaviours related to sustainable development. The bamboo body of the bike features cork, steel, aluminum & rubber elements as well as a small motor under the footboard which can cruise up to thirty five kilometers an hour. Brilliant design perhaps best suited to doing wheelies around the island in your IKEA kitchen.
This remarkable concrete tower house is fit for a king. Or a king, queen and three heirs to the throne. One tower for the parents and a single tower for each of the three children are connected by a common base. Each volume features a main floor dressing area and a bedroom & bath on the upper level. The parent's structure is crowned by an open air terrace so they might have their cake and eat it too.
The architects responsible describe this floating home on Lake Huron as the intersection of vernacular house typology and the shifting site specific conditions of the unique place; an island on Lake Huron. Which in this instance means the intersection of cottage country and Canada's four seasons. This looks everything and nothing like the Lake Huron cottage country I know. Just without the Busch-lattes.

'The detective is one who looks, who listens, who moves through this morass of objects and events in search of the thought, the idea that will pull all these things together and make sense of them. In effect, the writer and the detective are interchangeable. The reader sees the world through the detective's eyes, experiencing the proliferation of its details as if for the for first time. He has become awake to the things around him, as if they might speak to him, as if, because of their attentiveness he now brings to them, they might begin to carry a meaning other than the simple fact of their existence. Private eye. The term held a triple meaning for Quinn. Not only was it the letter "i," standing for "investigator," it was "I" in the upper case, the tiny life-bud buried in the body of the breathing self. At the same time, it was also the physical eye of the writer, the eye of the man who looks out from himself into the world and demands that the world reveal itself to him. For five years now, Quinn had been living in the grip of this pun.'
From Paul Auster's seminal novel City of Glass and the first instalment of his terrific The New York Trilogy. A book and a trilogy which, in part, set off my love for the sardonic voice of American post modern American literature. Auster and the prolific Don DeLillo provided me a voice of covertly clever realism and a hard-done-by perspective I would never have cultivated had I not been introduced to their work. Vans used to be nothing more than a Jeff Spicoli cultural touchstone for me. I got my first pair late in life. Then another. And another. An OTW here. A surfrider there. Set to release their California collection, these Chukka Boots have a distinct Nordic pattern, leather laces and the gripped soles and orange tags we've come to expect from the good folks at Vans. That's why these pumped up kicks are described as 'dope' by nearly every Hypebeast reader. When you hang a pair over a clothesline, and photograph them like they've always been there, you've made a dope kick. Well done, Vans.
