Should I go for a summer bob? Why is it taking sooo long for my locks to grow out? Highlights, lowlights, or dye-job? These are just a few of the many melodramas that plague the everyday woman in need of some sass in her tendrils! What’s a girl to do when she needs a pick-me-up but doesn’t want anything drastic or blatantly screaming give me attention? Cutting Loose Salon & Spa has the perfect scratch to the hair doldrums itch! Fine Featherheads! That’s right, Fine Featherheads! 100% natural feathers consisting of a bundle of seven feathers and equaling ONE feather hair extension. Fine Featherheads™ hair feather extensions can be brushed, blow-dried, straightened, curled and can last anywhere from one to six months depending on care! The word “Extension” sounds scary right? WRONG! The application process is totally pain free and takes a matter of seconds. The rad feathers are clamped onto strands of hair with a micro link (aka tiny cylinder tube) and are taken off just as easily but releasing the clamp in the opposite direction.

One bundle of feathers for a demure subtle look, all over for a rocker-chic do, or sporadically placed for the boho vibe! The feather some in a wide array of colors to fit whatever mood you’re in! There’s a hue for everywoman imaginable. Rainbow Bright, Wintergreen, Natural, Yellow, Fall Foliage, and the list goes on. These bursts of color are fun and temporary which is key when you’re a woman on the town!

Give back in style with the power of pink!

Paul Mitchell and Cutting Loose Salon and Spa proudly support the American Cancer Society’s fight to cure cancer! It was, how do you say, tres magnifique! Celebrity Stylist, Candy Shaw Codner, owner of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers, organized this great spring/summer power shoot with other top hairstylists. Candy was named one of the most published stylists in North America with a multitude of images appearing in nearly 100 magazines annually. Candy received the “Award of Excellence” from Intercoiffure Mondial for her outstanding contributions to the organization and was named the international “Personality of the Year”.

I assisted Coral Pleas, Master Stylist and salon owner of Cutting Loose Salon, at the photo shoot. Coral had two professional models to work with for the day, and she transformed them both from boring and stale to beautifully coiffed and textured. Coral's work will be published in the spring/summer issue of Sophisticates Hairstyle Guide and other hair magazines. My time in Miami was like walking on a dream. As I was assisting, I watched the other successful hairstylists who joined us from around the United States. They all brought with them their own great tricks of the trade. As an aspiring stylist, it was truly an honor to observe and assist the talented stylists at the photo shoot in Miami. Thank You Coral for inviting me to enjoy an amazing experience!!

Second Hand Rose Fashion Show @ Ritz-Carlton for SPARCC

On February 18th, Cutting Loose had the privilege to work with The Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC) at their Annual Fashion show at the Ritz Carlton. Four stylists, Jaclyn Fallon, Yvonne Armstrong, Nikki Baldun, and Cheyanne Preston, styled the hair on ten models that strutted their stuff on the run way. SPARCC hosts this annual luncheon that brings together about 2,000 ladies for a great cause. Before the lunch begins, the guests are invited to shop at the Treasure Chest. The Treasure Chest is a store sells a variety of donated items and all of the proceeds go towards funding programs for SPARCC. The models in the show wear clothes that are from the Treasure Chest, and all of the items worn are for sale after the show. The stylists at Cutting Loose prepared the models' hair prior to show time. During the show there are three wardrobe changes. Our talented stylists were put to the test, for each wardrobe change required a different hairstyle and all of this happens in 3 minutes time. The event is great fun and a great way for us at Cutting Loose to give our time and show off our work on stage.

Photos from the event:

Cutting Loose Salon's 2nd Anniversary Party!

CL's 2nd Anniversary & Grand Opening of After Hours - Photo Gallery

February 24th was a night to remember! Cutting Loose Salon celebrated our 2nd year anniversary and After Hours grand opening! We had such a great turn out (over 200 guests!). There was food on the tables, balloons filling the ceilings, and beer and wine in the shampoo bowls. Cutting Loose had a wine specialist from Urban Flats who offered wine tastings and delicious flats, chocolate delicacies from Dove Chocolate Discoveries, and appetizers from Stonewood. The designing stations were set up into raffle stations that included gift certificates and baskets from Let’s Eat, Fast’n’Fresh, Casa di Pizza, Luxury Nails, Melody’s skin and body, Lil Divas and Dudes, Fresh Market, and Ed’s tavern. We raised over $250 with all the proceeds going to the Haiti Relief Fund. The grand opening of Afterhours was bigger than we could have imagined. The guests were excited to see the new salon with a new, refreshing, and urban feel. At the designing stations, the Rising Stars and Stylists offered “Primp Before You Party” where guests could get their hair fluffed and make-up touched up. World of Beer brought three of their best beers for tastings; while Freshmarket, Sarasota Brewing Company, and Pei Wei offered delicous appetizers, treats, and coffee. At the end of the night we had one last raffle for a $100 gift card for Cutting Loose. Overall this event was truly amazing. We would love to thank all of our sponsors, vendors, and guests. Without all of you this special night wouldn’t have been such a great success!

Win $100 Gift Certificate & Raffle Prizes @ CL's 2nd Anniversary & Grand Opening of Afterhours!

Win $100 Gift Certificate & Raffle Prizes @ Celebrate w/ CL!

Come celebrate our 2nd anniversary with us at Cutting Loose & the Grand Opening of AfterHours next door! Coiffe is a term used to describe a style of arranging or combing the hair.

Cutting Loose will sponsor the most well coiffed pony and its player every Sunday this polo season. The salon is filled with some of Sarasota’s most talented coiffures so the tongue in cheek reference was too much fun to resist. The most well coiffed pony really is determined by his player, although there is something to be said about being the most well coiffed attendee at polo matches.

While the most well coiffed pony’s player must anticipate his opponent’s next move, the coiffures (who are now referred to as master stylists) at Cutting Loose travel multiple times a year both regionally and internationally to learn new techniques and stay ahead in the fashion game.

The sponsorship is just part of the way the successful salon is giving back to the community.

Greeting from Melissa, the newest member of Cutting Loose Family!

Hi! My name is Melissa Yates, Designer Stylist, and I’m so happy to introduce myself as the newest member of the Cutting Loose family! I’ve visited salons with many different dynamics, but none can compare to the fully catered guest experience here at Cutting Loose. From beginning to end everyone is made to feel comfortable and relaxed. From my start in this industry every guest tells me that their favorite part of the salon experience is the shampoo, and here we make that experience a production! Why not? And while we’re at it we’ll exceed those expectations with your entire look. Using the French Haircutting System we are able to create a modern look customized for each individual. We can also guarantee you can recreate the look at home with the education we provide you on a product & use of protools. As a salon we carry Paul Mitchell, Bumble & bumble, and Euphora so we can customize the Take Home cocktail that’s right for you, no matter your need for affordable, high performance or fully organic. So I invite you to come experience the difference. Hope to see you soon! Peace, Melissa yates

‘Tis the Season! This season, Lim decided, it was "time to give props to 50 percent of the population." For his first-ever all-men's presentation, Lim set up vignettes of models lounging in austere plywood and plaster boxes, set to the music of a single piano player. Matching that feeling was the sober palette of blacks, navies, slates, and camels. In fact, it was an altogether fall feeling. "Spring isn't about bright color for me," said Lim. "And besides, guys wear black and navy all year."

Lim's intent was to take the stuffiness out of traditional menswear colors. His inspiration was the way the beatniks "imbued traditional masculinity with a sense of transparency and vulnerability." The movement, he said, was also about "stripping away what was unnecessary." That explained the plywood boxes. But to my eye at least, the clothes evoked a more familiar Lim reference point: eighties-era Bowie. Low-breaking jackets; cropped, cull-cut trousers, graph-paper check, and borderline fragile footwear were certainly more Bowie than beat. Open toes perhaps notwithstanding, the accessories were again the standout of Lim's menswear, from suede mod boots to leather-wrapped key pendants
— Josh Peskowitz

http://men.style.com/fashion/collections/S2010MEN/review/PLMEN

Lusting After Kim Kardashian's Sexy Hair? Us Too. Here's How to DIY Her 'Do.

-Andrea Pomerantz blogs for The Girls in the Beauty Department and writes Glamour's Beauty Q&A column

Before I get into all the hairstyle tippage, I just have to geek out for a second: When I spotted Kim Kardashian backstage at the Catherine Malandrino show at New York Fashion Week, she pretty much stopped me in my tracks. Kim's skin and makeup looked totally flawless, and her hair was so shiny that I almost needed my sunglasses. The Bumble and Bumble hair team is responsible for her sexy 'do, so I immediately asked them for all the scoop. "I wanted to give Kim a glamorous, pretty, old-Hollywood style that played up her classically beautiful features," Bumble and Bumble stylist Rolando Beauchamp told me. "To start, I applied Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray to Kim's damp hair and created a very deep, very straight side part with a fine-toothed comb. I then used a large round brush to blow out her hair in sections, making sure each section of hair was exactly the same width as the round brush. That's the key to achieving the smooth, glassy finish." Easy, right? I want to run home right now and try Rolando's tip myself, but before I do, here's one last hairstyle tip for my fellow Kardashian fans: Rolando used velvet-coated hot rollers called Remington Protect & Shine Rollers to create Kim's bodacious curls. After removing curlers from Kim's hair, he gently brushed the curls into soft waves and then finished the look with Bumble and Bumble Does It All Hairspray.

The 10 Most Flattering Fall Hair and Makeup Looks
The Latest Celebrity Hair Makeovers
8 Totally DO-able Celebrity Hairstyle Tips

Warning - Product Diversion of Paul Mitchell and Bumble & bumble

Cease and desist using any Paul Mitchell or Bumble and Bumble products bought in your local drug stores such as Target, Publix, or Walmart. WHY ??????

Product diversion is the ugly side of the beauty industry. Diversion is product being sold outside of its authorized chain of distribution.

Well, you see, if you read carefully the bottles tell you the products are only guaranteed when sold by salon professionals. You wouldn't trust the bag boy to cut and style your hair, so why would you trust him to recommend the right products for your unique fabric. The point is if you don't get your hair cut at the grocery store why would you buy your products there. Not to mention your generally spending three to four dollars more buying them at the store.

It may look like the genuine product, but it's actually diverted and it could be old, stolen, counterfeit, or tampered with. Independent lab tests conducted by FOX News on bottles purchased from a variety of mass retailers and grocery stores found dangerously high levels of bacteria and other impurities that would make the user sick enough to require medical attention. EWWWWW!!!!

Please tell your friends and don't forget, Cutting Loose is a professional salon using professional products. You can find Paul Mitchell, Bumble and Bumble , Euphora and Bed Head Make Up at our salon. So stop by with ANY products or tools you dont use and we will donate them to SPARCC and give you 10% OFF any products you purchase that same day!

NIKI B.

Cutting Loose Salon Features Work of Artist, Trey Bryan

For Immediate Release
Contact: Linda Gross

941-907-9507 or linda@advice-inc.com

Cutting Loose Salon Features Work of Artist, Trey Bryan
For Beauty and Purchase

Southwest, Florida - Cutting Loose Salon owner Coral Pleas is doing more than styling hair to make Sarasota a beautiful place. The Master Designer has turned her salon into an art gallery of sorts.

Since opening, the upscale and trendy salon is exhibiting the work of local artists as a way to help them thrive. Every three months, Coral chooses another artist and gives them a large wall of the salon to display their works. The selection process is quite stringent as Coral and her team of more than 15 preview multiple pieces from each artist to ensure that the work is at the highest exposure level possible. The work selected represents all mediums from photography, to oils to sketches. The pieces are displayed for the enjoyment of the customers and staff as they are placed in eye catching areas.

The latest collection features Trey Bryan, an illustration senior at Ringling School of Art and Design. Trey has received many accolades during his years at Ringling and had the honor of presenting former President Bill Clinton with an oil painting last year. Trey uses a variety of mediums to create large, bright works featuring a variety of themes. “I love to paint big, leave a mark and be confident,” Trey said.

When asked about his work Trey said, “The idea of “quantity with quality” means a lot to me, and the habit of painting big. The harder you work at something, the more you are bound to learn from the mistakes you make. The more you paint, the more mistakes to learn from!” Coral echoed this by saying “there will not be any mistakes in the pieces that we’ve chosen for display and sale. It’s also hard for me to think that there would be mistakes in such quality pieces.”

The confidence displayed in the paintings is a parallel to what Coral and her adult children Travis and Taelor Scheuer instill in their clients by staying on the cutting edge of trends, helping them looking their very best and offering community support through great works from local artist.

Coral has more than 30 years of experience, the last 17 of which she has been a national educator and platform artists for Paul Mitchell. She teaches the latest hair trends along both in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Son, Travis is following in Coral’s footsteps. After four years as a full-time stylist, he has been tapped to teach internationally by both Paul Mitchell and Keith Chandler, President of 3-6-5 Premier Education.

Daughter, Taelor recently joined the family business after graduating from Sarasota County Technical Institute with a degree in cosmetology. She is the manager for the salon’s Afterhours shift, which features young, up-and-coming stylists that offer the same quality styles at an attainable price. Afterhours’ Blow Dries and Bellinis program assists clients in learning how to style their hair like a pro through one-on-one training. The Afterhours program operates in non-traditional times such as evenings and Saturdays to accommodate that busy executive.

Cutting Loose is a full-service salon, offering many of today’s most popular product lines, including Paul Mitchell, Bumble & Bumble and Eufora. The salon is unisex and offers hair style and color choices to match any personality. Coral sits on the board of Intercoiffure Mondial, which is an international organization of the best hairdressers and travels multiple times per year to learn new techniques to bring back for her clients. Customers will receive the white glove treatment and feel pampered and refreshed after a trip to the salon. The salon is located at 8429 Honore Avenue near the intersection of University Parkway in Sarasota. On an average women spend a good 30 minutes every morning trying to recreate that perfect style they left the salon with. Well know you can have it every day!

I know it sounds too good to be true! It’s a sin not to want Keratin! Keratin Complex Hair Therapy is a new revolutionary semi permanent smoothing system, that infuses keratin deep into the hair cuticle eliminating up to ninety-five percent of the frizz from the hair, leaving the hair soft, shiny and luxurious.

How does it affect curly hair you ask? Good question! It doesn’t completely remove your curls but helps to loosen and calm them. So you have to option of going smooth or curled. So that one 30 min blow dry and style every morning only for it to go back to unmanageable out of control hair when you step out into humidity is transformed to a tamable 15 min salon ready style!

So go ahead, everyone needs some TLC ! Put your hair on Weight Watchers and make that big hair small and skinny.. I dare you - you know you want to! You’ll be hooked!

Keep up with the afterhours crew!

Sincerely, Keratin Queen Meaghan

Sneak Peak at the Latest and Greatest

On July 20th we had an exclusive, one of a kind class – right here at Cutting Loose Salon!!! We got our very own sneak peek of the brand new “6 Figures Collection” from John Paul Mitchell Systems.

The collection includes haircuts and colors from John Paul Mitchell Systems Team Members Linda Yodice (Artistic Director), Scott Cole (Artistic Director), Stephanie Kocielski (Artistic Director) , Robert Cromeans (Global Artistic Director), and LaDonna Dryer (Senior Associate).

LaDonna came to Sarasota to share this new information with us before she went to Signature Gathering in Las Vegas. What is that, you may ask? Signature Gathering is a weekend of learning, play, and inspiration as 3,000 hairstylists, salon owners and distributors gather together at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas for the ultimate educational experience.

LaDonna taught us the newest haircut styles and color techniques. I love it, and I’m sure a lot of you ladies (and gentlemen too!) are down at the Beach. Great for a tan, but it doesn’t do much for our hair, especially if you color your hair. Just like our skin needs UV protectants, our scalp and hair do too.

</>Here at Cutting Loose, we have two products that I would highly recommend as a must for your hair care on the beach or in the sun.

Paul Mitchell Color Protect Locking Spray contains UV protecting sunflower extracts which protect the structure of the hair and help keep your color from fading.
