June 1 (Bloomberg) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected U.S. President Barack Obama’s demand for a halt to all construction in West Bank settlements.

Netanyahu, who spoke at a meeting of the parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said a call by the U.S. to stop all so-called natural growth in existing settlements was unreasonable.

“The LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.” Genesis 15:18. It was a unilateral covenant in which Abraham went to sleep and only God (as a burning lamp) passed between the sacrifice, meaning that God alone has the obligation to provide the land to Abraham’s descendents.

But before God acts, He says, “I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity… Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations.” Zechariah 14:2,3

Solomon’s Temple and Herod’s Temple both burned on the 10th day of the 5th Jewish month (Jeremiah 52:12; Josephus) which is why many Jews fast on the 9th of Av. Maybe we should too, on August 2?

President Obama said, “Israel must move quickly to resume peace talks with the Palestinians and insisted that negotiations start from an existing agreement.”  USA Today, May 12, 2009. 

This is like forcing an engaged couple to marry when something convinces one of them that it would be impossible to live peaceably. No one knows better than someone who makes serious concessions, only to find that more and more is required, that it is not a good deal. We believe in democracy, and Mr. Natanyahu is reflecting those who have to live with the results of this decision. Can we not respect that we are living in a time of prophecy and we are pushing “all [United] nations” Zech 14:2?

1. A peace accord is the missing ingredient in the Middle East and it may constitute what is needed to fulfill 1 Thessalonians 5:2,3–“the day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night, when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction  comes upon them.”   “The day of the Lord” is not about  the 2nd coming, but the apocalyptic period leading to it, which most scholars say will be seven years.
2. Earthquake is linked to several “day of the Lord” passages in Hebrew Scripture and could cause the “sudden destruction” in the text above, Joel 2:10,11; Zephaniah 1:7,10; Zechariah 14:1,5.  Earthquake is also how the church of Laodicea (where Christ “knocked” in Revelation 3:20) ended. Type/antitype?
3. The previous text says, “the day of the LORD comes, and your spoil shall be divided in the midst of you. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and…you shall flee, like you fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah,” ibid.  “All nations” did not happen in 70 AD. “All nations” could be Bible imagery for United Nations that wants to divide the land that God promised to Israel!  Sudden destruction is a time when authorities are overwhelmed, allowing “houses rifled and the women ravished,” Zechariah 14:2.
4. Earthquake could solve the pope’s problem of a Muslim temple where he would like to move. Speaking of the end of the world, Christ said to understand Daniel’s book (Matthew 24:3,15), where a “king” from the north, “shall plant…his palace between the seas in  the glorious holy mountain.” Daniel 11:45. Jerusalem is God’s “holy mountain,” (Daniel 9:16) and Daniel 8 suggests that Iran (which has funded attacks against Israel) will not be a problem soon, as explained at  www.aRamInABush.com
5. The Vatican may also be hit by the earthquake. Didn’t Christ say, “if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up,” Matthew 24:43. 6. While the pope may not move to Jerusalem until New World Order is set up in the middle of the last seven years (Revelation 11:3-7; 13:5) we expect Benedict to support “Dies Domini” (John Paul’s letter suggesting laws to support Sunday for worship and family).  John Paul’s encyclical went so far as to say that violators should be punished as heretics. 7. “Millions dead or homeless”? Christ suggested events “as in the days of Noah,” when there was wide-spread destruction and loss of life, Matthew 24:38. This suggests an unprecedented earthquake.
8. Good news in the face of bad. God offers help, protection for all who want Him to be Lord in their lives. He asks us to “watch and pray,” but we miss the meaning. “Watch” means to stay awake as Christ used it when He prayed on the eve of Passover in Matthew 26:38-41. Passover was the only night that being awake was required, Exodus 12:10,42. Most of us didn’t “watch” (stay awake) at Passover, which is when Christ made His request. But the law provides that if we missed staying awake and praying at Passover, we may do so a month later as Numbers 9:10,11 says. That’s Sunday night, May 10/11.

Why not? “If you don’t watch, I will come on you as a thief,” Revelation 3:3. But great blessing may be ours for watching when the Lord “knocks,” Luke 12:36,37.  We have so much to gain and little to lose. Let us pray that God will pass over us in any judgments that may fall. We can ask it for Christ’s sake, who took the beating for us at Passover. “He was wounded for our transgressions,” Isaiah 53:5.
