Summer Break & Split Ends

Hello Lovelies!

As some of you may have guessed Nicole and I are taking a summer break. I apologize for not telling you prior to the break, but I did not anticipate such a hectic summer. That said, thank you all for being patient with us and continueing to check in with us.

We plan to record again within the month, but in the mean time we'd like to give you a little info on a pesky hair issue..... Split Ends.

Yes, naturals still get split ends. If you're not sure if you have split ends here is a great chart Nicole found:

Episode 3 - Product Reviews

We're baaaaaaaackkkk! Episode 3 is finally here. Thank you for your patience. We were a little slap happy and sleep deprived so please excuse the giggling :-}

Nicole reviewed products from Ouidad, Miss Jessie’s, Anita Grant, Karen’s Body Beautiful, and Curl Junkie. Here is a link to Nicole’s Fotki journal, which give the product reviews in detail.

Jami reviewed Giovanni products. (Don't forget to get sign up for those rewards!)

Terms mentioned:
Cones – Silicone Oils (Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, and Silicone). Some people prefer to avoid them. Some people rely on them. Some are indifferent. Here is an article I found to be informative and objective, from mywomenstuff.com .
Sulfates – Surfactants (sodium lauryl sulfates, ammonium lauryl sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, potassium coco hydrolyzed collagen and disodium laureth sulfosuccinate). Surfactants, as defined by wikipedia, are wetting agents that lower the surface tension of a liquid, allowing easier spreading, and lower the interfacial tension between two liquids. The controversy that surrounds is due to the fact that some surfactants are known to be toxic and the view that surfactants are too harsh for regular use on hair.
Slip – When a product has "good slip" or "slip" this means you can easily run your fingers or a comb through hair containing the product with no tangling.
Virgin Coconut Oil – Virgin Coconut Oil is unrefined and does not have any other ingredients listed. Here is a great article on the benefits of coconut oil, which goes beyond hair.

Hello All,
Hope everyone had a blessed Easter. We've both been battling illness, but we're committed to getting back on the air.

Since we've been out of the loop, we'd like to extend the time to submit for the Hair Horror stories. So, if you have one, but missed the previous deadline, please feel free to submit (guidelines are outlined in the previous blog post).

Calling All Curlies!

It's submission time! We're looking for submissions for our next episode, which will feature "Hair Horror Stories". Did you have a mishap when you first went natural? Or a mishap that led you to go natural? Your story could help other naturals, so please share.

Your submission should include:
* Your name (or whatever you would like to be called)
* Website (Fotki, Flickr, youtube channel, blog, etc)
* Your story (please, no profanity)

Submit, via email, curlsandkinks@live.com . Please include "Hair Horror story" in the subject line. If you'd like, you can record your submission and we'll insert it into the podcast.

Hair Horror Story submissions must be received by 4/11/09 to be played in Episode 3.

If you don't have a horror story, don't despair. We are also looking for transition stories as well. At least one transition story will be featured during every podcast. The guidelines are the same as those specified above, except, use "Transition Story" in the subject line and there is no deadline for submission.

Everyone who submits will be notified when their story is featured. We will also include a link to your website in the shownotes.

We are still waiting to be added to iTunes, but we're optimistic that we'll be added soon.
