The Peace Prayer of St. Francis is a famous prayer which first appeared around the year nineteen hundreds, and which embodies the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi's simplicity and poverty.

The Prayer of Saint Francis is a Christian prayer. It is attributed to the 13th-century saint Francis of Assisi, although the prayer in its present form cannot be traced back further than 1912, when it was printed in France in French, in a small spiritual magazine called La Clochette (The Little Bell) as an anonymous prayer, as demonstrated by Dr Christian Renoux in 2001. The prayer has been known in the United States since 1929 and Cardinal Francis Spellman and Senator Albert W. Hawkes distributed millions of copies of the prayer during and just after World War II.1

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

What is Gamma88? Gamma88 is diesel fuel additive which is marketed as “an energy catalyst that significantly reduces fuel costs, emissions, and maintenance time for all types of engines”. This liquid product claims “to greatly reduces harmful byproducts of combustion, while helping to decrease the carbon footprint in the atmosphere, most notably carbon dioxide”. 1

What Gamma88 main claim to fame? It states that “the power of Gamma88 comes from its ester base and ability to enhance the lubricity and combustion properties of fuels and oils to clean carbon deposits within engines. Through these processes, engine efficiency and operating life can be dramatically increased”. 2 Its ads claim that they can save the consumer “Save $3500 to $8500 on Fuel Costs Per Year”. 3

How is Gamma88 used and what niche is this product martketed to? Gamma88 is mainly maketed as a diesel fuel additive to the transportation industry where recent fuel hikes and raising cost of operation is squeezing the owner operator and small fleet owners to find unconversional savings where ever they can be found. “It is a basic fact of life that trucks need fuel to operate. Fuel makes up around 25% of the operating costs for the average truck fleet. This is the second highest operating expense trailing only labor costs. Here is an idea of how much impact a rise in fuel prices can have on trucking operating expenses. In 2004, trucks consumed a total of 32000000000 gallons of diesel. One cent to this figure would increase the cost of diesel fuel in an increase of $ 320 million in operating costs”. 4

Is Gamma88 pure marketing or Science? Well the makers of Gamma88 state that “Gamma88 is a diesel fuel additive and oil reformulator that significantly reduces fuel costs, emissions, and maintenance time for all types of engines. This liquid product greatly reduces harmful byproducts of combustion, while helping to decrease the carbon footprint in the atmosphere, most notably carbon dioxide, through increased fuel efficiency and decreased fuel consumption. Gamma88 should be added to gasoline, diesel, ethanol, bio-diesel and motor oils”. 5

What is the cost of Gamma88? A one gallon pack which treats approx 1280 fuel gallons is listed on thier website at $115.00 plus shipping and handling.

Where can I get Gamma88? Gamma88, 4411 Cleveland Avenue, Fort Myers, FL 33901. Tel: 1-888-6-GAMMA-88

The first Generations of Amazon’s popular ebook reader Kindle 1 and 2 had some firmware issues that cause the device to be buggy. Unfortunately resetting your kindle series 1 or 2 may be the only way to get them back to operational condition. Follow the instruction below to perform a factory reset in a few easy steps.

How to Reset Kindle 2

Resetting Kindle 2 is easy, all you need to do is follow 3 steps below:

Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds and then release.

Once your kindle is off remove the batteries for 10 seconds and reinsert it back.

Turn On the Kindle.

How to Reset Kindle 1

Fig 1 - Kindle 1

Reseting Kindle 1 is a bit more complicated than Kindle 2 or 3. Follow the steps outlined below:

First, you need something pointed like a paper clip or the tip of your earing.

Now, open the back cover of your kindle by pressing it firmly while sliding it to the right using your thumbs.

You will then see the Kindle Reset Button as shown on the picture below (Fig 1). Use the paper-clip or your earing’s pointed tip to press on the reset button.

A few seconds after pressing the button, your kindle will then reboot and will be restored.

The mangosteen, nicknamed the “Queen of Fruits” is a small spherical fruit about the size of a tangerine, but with a skin that is very dark purple, and quite thick, reaching 10 millimeters in thickness.

The mangosteen fruit (or Garcinia Mangostana) is native to South East Asia. The mangosteen’s place of origin is unknown. However, it is believed that the Sunda Islands, also known as the Spice Islands, in the western part of the Malay Archipelago to be its most likely place of origin. From these islands the mangosteen spread to Thailand and Burma where it is first thought to have been cultivated.

The mangosteen tree has a slow growth rate and adult pyramidal evergreen trees range anywhere from 20 to 82 feet (6 to 25 meters) in height. It is common for the mangosteen tree to take 10 to 15 years to product its first fruit. The mangosteen, nicknamed the “Queen of Fruits” is a small spherical fruit about the size of a tangerine, but with a skin that is very dark purple, and quite thick, reaching 10 millimeters in thickness. Inside is a soft white sectioned middle. The edible sections may or may not contain a small seed. The taste is quite sweet, but with a hint of sourness.

Today mangosteen, the Queen of Fruits, thrives and is mainly cultivated in Thailand, Kampuchea, Vietnam, Burma, Malay and Singapore. Mangosteen is almost a rarity outside its native habitat; however mangosteen has spread to Central and South America, the Caribbean.

Mangosteen has seen an up tick in popularity in the last few years in the United States as well as other western nations. Mainly due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. “The latest in scientific research shows Mangosteen contains a class of naturally occurring polyphenolic compounds known as xanthones. Xanthones may provide beneficial effects on cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic heart disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and thrombosis”. 1 The Queen of Fruits is now the Queen of Cures; curing everything from heart disease, arthritis and even cancer. However, don’t expect to see the fruit next to the bananas at your local main street grocer anytime soon. Instead, like the the way of the acai, gochi goji berry, noni and pomegranate which can be found mainly at all main stream grocers as a juice so too is mangosteens debut on westerners.

Premium juices distributes have strung up with extensive marketing campaigns to sell mangosteen juice at a premium prices. As with most well oiled marketing campaigns, possibly taking a cue from the snake oil salesmen of the late 19th and early 20th century, marketing their product as the new fountain of youth. A thimble a day keeps the doctor away. As if a thimble size glass of their product will be enough to cure all your woes. Sadly, even though mangosteen shows promise in recent scientific research what most don’t understand, is that “the level of active ingredients in many liquid Mangosteen juices simply is not great enough, (unless one was to drink a pint per day) to supply sufficient xanthones and antioxidants to make any noticeable difference to the health of someone suffering metabolic disease such as cancer”. 2 Don’t buy into the hype, try mangosteen for yourself and fall in love with the fruit not the hype. If there are benefits, think of them as a plus to enjoying one of natures treats.

Still interested in trying mangosteen? Visit your local Asian Market and try it the way nature prepared it; as a fruit and discover for yourself why this majestic tropical fruit was given the nickname the “Queen of Fruits“.

"Fanbox.com, formerly known as sms.ac, is one of the most annoying and sleaziest spams and misrepresentations going right now". Quoted from Consumer Fraud Reporting
No related posts.

I recently began receiving a lot of what I consider SPAM from FanBox, under the guise of trusted friends and contacts. The subject is always the same John Doe sent a tiny youtube video to you (communication initiated on FanBox)”. Which immediately raised a few flags as most of my contact are not big forwarders nor do they initiate these types of messages. It is my policy to never click a link on any email unless I am one hundred percent sure that it is a legitimate link and even then I put the link into a vetting process by searching the internet for issues experienced by others. Although, some may consider this extreme, for most a call to the contact that initiated the correspondence should be enough as a vetting process.

After a few searches I initially didn’t find much on this new wave of emails but found enough to confirm my suspicion that indeed it was SPAM. What most had to say in regards to FanBox practices can be categorized by this quote from Consumer Fraud Reporting; “Fanbox.com, formerly known as sms.ac, is one of the most annoying and sleaziest spams and misrepresentations going right now”. 1 It seems the SPAM from FanBox comes in a number of forms and are ever changing. Sadly, the person whose name is used is none the wiser until someone brings it to their attention. FanBox’s crafty subjects and emails may changes but their M.O. 2 is always the same. Thier end game is to gain access into the contact list of members who have registered with them so they can send emails to their contacts over again and again. The catchy subject lines and use of recognized names from people you know and in some instances may not get you to think the email is legitimate and then they cycle begins again and propagates in-boxes across the internet promoting their SPAM.

So who is FanBox? TechCrunch states “San Diego based FanBox from mobile solutions company SMS.ac offers a variety of services. From its front page it offers a reasonable web desktop package, complete with wordprocessing, IM and online storage. A social networking service is included, and the holding company sms.ac offers premium SMS services”.

“It sounds like a run of the mill package, except that like Plaxo in the past, FanBox spams potential signups by accessing the address books of its registered users. At least that’s what others have said, however I don’t recognize any of the names in the spam I’m now regularly receiving from the service, so it may well just be broad scale spamming of anyone and everyone”. 3

How to protect yourself. I would blacklist the domain on my email client or mark them as SPAM from your inbox. Although these emails may look like they are coming from some you know, in reality they are coming from email addresses like
fbNO...@myfanbox.com
or possibly
NORE...@fanboxnotes.com
or the like. These email are ever changing so just mark them as SPAM when you come across them with out worry of blocking your contact as they will never use these addresses to actually email you from something important or in not important for that matter.

If you’ve been spammed by this company or got tricked into giving them your personal information, please leave us a comment and share your experience!

As most new iPad owners I wanted to setup Gmail, which is my primary email client, on the iPad so I could access email when I am away from my desktop or on the road. Until recently, I used iPhone for this task. However, I recall that when I setup my Gmail account using the default Gmail setup on the iPhone, it violated Gmail’s conventions by actually deleted your mail instead of archiving it which IMO is what makes Gmail different than the rest of the we clients I’ve used in the past. Another quark was that it stored my drafts locally on the device which need less to say was annoying. With this said, I didn’t even bother to find out if they’ve fixed the issue on the iPad, I figured that the only way to be sure is to set it up manually.

Benefits to this manual setup included your iPad will now store Drafts and Sent Mail in Gmail instead of storing them locally on the Device. That way if you access Gmail from your desktop or iPhone your drafts and trash will be accessible on that device as well.

Here’s what to do (This method will also work with the iPhone):

Go to
Settings
->
Mail, Contacts, Calendars
and then tap the
Add Account
under Accounts section. DON’T select Gmail as this method violated Gmail’s conventions by actually deleted your mail instead of archiving.

Select
Other
, and then,
Add Mail Account
.

Use
imap.gmail.com
as incoming server and
smtp.gmail.com
as outgoing server. Put in your entire Gmail address and password in both the incoming and outgoing server settings.

Go back to iPad home and start up the Mail application. Once it connects and downloads mail for the first time, go back to
Settings
->
Mail, Contacts, Calendars
. Select the new mail account you just created, scroll down, and tap
Advanced
.

Select
Drafts Mailbox
>
On the Server
>
Drafts
. Return to the Advanced view.

Select
Sent Mailbox
>
On the Server
>
Sent Mail
. Return to the Advanced view.

Select
Deleted Mailbox
>
On the Server
>
Trash

Back all the way out and hit
Done
.

Alternatively, you can setup your iPad or iPhone using GoogleSync (Googles version of Exchange). I have been using this method on my iPhone since the release of the iPhone OS versions 3.0 and it would be the preferred method for power users that also use Google Calendar and would like to have access to the their Google Contacts. If your interested in this method of mail retrieval visit the GoogleSync setup page for the iPhone which I can confirm also works on the iPad.

Seems that the powers that be over at Apple have pulled all Google Voice-enabled applications from the App Store, citing the fact that they “duplicate features that come with the iPhone”. 1 This adds to a long list of grips I have with AT&T who is surely behind the block and in my opinion frighten of what Google Voice brings to the table. Although Google vows to “continue to work to bring our services to iPhone users” it may be sometime before it succeeds.

As an earlier adopter Google Voice (since GrandCentral days), I have really found apps like GV Mobile a complement to the service. GV Mobile is no longer available at the app store; I hope that when I sync my Iphone today GV Mobile will still be there. Sean Kovacs, creator of GV Mobile announced today “I’ll be releasing GV Mobile v1.2 on Cydia for free today or tomorrow, with an update coming in a couple weeks”. 2 Of course, you have to be willing to jailbreak your iPhone in order to now use GV Mobile on your Iphone.

Even though, GV Mobile can now be found via Cydia on for jailbroken iPhone, I still wonder what the official Google Voice app from Google would have offered.

Other apps blocked from the App Store included; VoiceCentral.

The economic forecast seems to be getting gloomier by the day. As the economy takes a dive and my savings deplete like water in a leaky bucket, I recently decided to get down to business and work on a monthly budget in an attempt to stop my leaky bucket life style.

Budget Document Sample

Using this simple template and following the steps below, I was able to hammer out a monthly budget and curve wasteful spending.

Believe it or not, the hardest part of the was getting started. I began by listing my monthly and quarterly outgoing expenses. Meaning, I gathered every bill and printed every e-bill I pay and then some. My list included, but was not limited to, the utility bill, mortgage (or rent if you lease), car payment, and insurance and so on. Oh, don’t forget those other bills that don’t usually occur monthly like license fees, car registration, oil changes, gift spending, and everything else in between. Basically everything that you spend money on needs to be included in your budget for it to be accurate. For those quarterly and yearly expenses, I broken them down into monthly portions as describe by this great article and using this annual spending worksheet. 1

Your next step is gathering all your pay stubs and other sources of income. You then need to populate your income fields and expense fields in the spreadsheet. Feel free to rename some of the currently populated fields if they don’t pertain to your spending.

If you are unhappy with the what you discovered, you are not alone. Most people tend to spend more than they make. Howver, putting it on paper is the first step to seeing where your money is going. Hopefully with the help of this trusty spreadsheet, it makes it easier to look at your expenses closely and figure out what you can live without.

In recent years, an intimate partner killed approximately 33% of female murder victims and 4% of male murder victims.2 Each one has a story.

Recently I read a story in the Gaineville Sun, a North Florida newspaper, a student Yasmin Nicole Linder who was recently charged with murder in Alachua County, Florida.

Linder, 19, originally from the small town of Thomasville, GA, was a 2008 honor graduate from Thomasville High School and came from a financially stable family. 3 She has been described by friends as a nice and personable by friends and co-workers at the local IHOP in Gainesville, Florida where she worked. Her story has resonated mentally since I read about this article last week. This story has left me wondering as to what could have happened in this young woman’s relationship with her live in boyfriend, Torre Blalock 20, that could have resulted in his death. Although a trial will surely follow, it will not be for some time, and maybe then the details of this story will surface.

Until then, I look forward to reading more on this, mainly because there is a story behind every crime and although I am not justifying the death of Blalock, each headline has a back story.

In layman`s terms, as the name suggests, RapidShare is an easy way of sharing your files with anyone you want through the internet. It is a German based company that allows file hosting or web hosting from the user`s hard disk to a remote server location by just a click. The headquarters of RapidShare is located at Switzerland and the site is the 17th most visited globally. The company initially operated through the ‘RapidShare.de’ that used the German domain ‘de’. But then the traffic to that site became so high and that the servers, given their limited capacity could not handle it efficiently. So another site ‘RapidShare.com’ was opened to re-route some of the traffic and work through two different servers, combined together, to give a higher capacity. So basically RapidShare is a place where you can store your files which can be used by anyone across the globe.

RapidShare exists ‘for’ the people and ‘by’ the people. Confusing?? Well RapidShare contains almost all types of file that can be downloaded. Games, serials, songs, movies etc. of all genres are available and can be downloaded at ease with just a click away. Now the prime question is where did all this input come from?? The answer is: you!! People around the world are uploading files every second so that it will be viewed and downloaded by users through the globe. So basically RapidShare acts like a global ‘sink’ where you can store your files and perennially as a global ‘source’ where you can find any file you want to download.

RapidShare is used by people throughout the world to upload and download files. When users upload the necessary files that require storage in the global level, a link is provided by RapidShare which can be shared among your friends who can download the uploaded file by clicking on the link. The link is primarily a pointer to the address location of the file in the server. This process or facility can be used for free or by paying a monthly subscription free. By choosing the former option, you are a free user which means the download speed and the capacity is limited and less bandwidth is allocated for your sake by the hosting server. But by the latter option, you choose to be a ‘premium’ user wherein your speed is more, more bandwidth is allocated by the server and you don`t have to wait for the download to start, its instant.

There are many other sites that offer the same file hosting service like the bit torrent which provides the service through torrents which needs to be downloaded by a connecting to a server location through a torrent. RapidShare provides easy hosting services that are ‘just a click away’. In RapidShare you don`t have to seed the file once you have downloaded it, so there is no feeling of being a leecher in RS. The speed offered by RS is more and it doesn’t broadcast you IP address through the world perhaps offering you a safe manner in which your file can be hosted. All these make RS more preferred that Bit Torrent.

The Codex Sinaiticus, or Sinai Book which is the oldest known surviving Christina Bible, handwritten over 1600 years ago, was recently digitized and now available to the public online.

This unique treasure was original kept at the Monastery of St. Catherine in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula until 1859. At which time it was divided in four parts and taken to Russia, Germany and Great Britain. A portion remained at the monastery. Efforts to unite the 4th century treasure have come to fruition; together for the first time in 150 years it can now be read online at the Codex Sinaiticus web site.

Scot McKendrick, from the The British Library and chairman of the multinational group that worked on the project, said “The whole project rests on an agreement between the four institutions. Each one committed themselves to … the greater good of the whole to present this virtual codex,”.

The codex offers an insight into what was happening in the fourth century stated McKendrick.

“This is the point at which Christianity is becoming authorized, accepted by authority, and this book very much reflects that,” he says. “It also reflects a point where there is still a discussion going on about which texts are in the Bible and which order they should be presented in.”

The Codex Sinaiticus Web site is a veritable treasure trove for researchers and others. The site grants access not only to images of the pages, but also to the new transcription of the text, McKendrick says, which allows scholars to search for word patterns, among other uses. The digitized version offers breathtaking detail of the codex, which is written by hand in Greek on animal skin.

“The Web site is wonderful in that it allows you to see that physicality, see a thumbprint of a 1,600-year-old scribe, an insect that bit the animal that the page has come from,” he says. “It’s like a window in that … critical era.”

The US Government is thinking of cracking down on bottled water manufactures. Many test results favor tap water over the many national brands of bottled water on the market. As bottled water sales skyrocket, it has become common place to spend as much as 1000% over the cost of tap water. Leading bottlers to spend millions on marketing to make us to believe that the water used in these expensive bottled alternatives are better from you because they come from mountain artisan wells. What you may not know is that some bottled water may not be as pure as it is advertised. Truth is, if your lucky, there’s a good chance that your favorite bottled water comes from the same place your tap does — your municipal water supply. However, since bottlers are not required to label the product with where the water was obtained, its possible that the ice cold bottle water you had yesterday could have been filtered and filled from a contaminated source.

The new Dos Equis commercials that has lately been airing on TV, radio and the net is just about the cleverest marketing campaign I’ve seen in a while. Not just because the main character (played by actor Jonathan Goldsmith) reminds me of my uncle Gabriel, who in my opinion is actually the “Most Interesting Man in the World“, it’s because the spot actually has an excellent blend of humor, sophistication and product placement.

“Dos Equis: The Most Interesting Man in the World” commercial was created by Euro RSCG/New York with Jeff Kling as Creative Director. Steve Miller directed the spots with @radical media as the production company (Outside Editorial did the post work). 1

Interpreting your parrots behavior is key to a good relationship. This article list various behaviors and decodes them in order for you to understand your bird.
No related posts.

Solicitous Behaviors

These include all the more passive ways a parrot asks for attention. If we ignore these, they can lead to more outright demands, such as screaming, or neurotic behaviors that become obsessive, almost ritualistic, habits such as constant flipping or circling in the cage, or toe-tapping, beak wiping, and odd looking head movements. The basic solicitous behaviors include the following:

Food Begging: Recently weaned babies often cry and “baby bob” repeatedly. They sit low on the perch, heads turned up, slightly quivering their wings, with heads bobbing rapidly. This needs to be addressed! Often, newly weaned babies revert after moving to their new home. It’s a good idea to continue regular body weight checks, as anything over a 10% loss is cause for concern. I don’t believe in time-table weaning, and do not feel it is inappropriate to continue, or re-start, hand feeding of young birds. Ask for guidance on how to best handle it

Happiness Behaviors

These are my favorites! They are also the most subtle and most often missed signals that our parrots give us. Learn to recognize them and you’ll enjoy a whole new level of richness in your communications.

Tail Wagging: Often in one on one interactions, you’ll see your bird give his tail a quick “fan” and a vigorous side-to-side shake. This means “I’m content, I’m enjoying myself and feeling quite relaxed!” It’s always a happy sight!

Excitement and or Aggressive Behaviors

Eye pinning: The pupils dilate and constrict rapidly, back and forth, indicating excitement and interest. Definitely means you need to pay attention and look out.

Feather Puffing: The bird fluffs his feathers out all over, but especially the head and neck, and with Cockatoos, the crest is erect. In the wild, birds use this to appear larger, and thus be more intimidating to foes.

Tail Fanning: Especially in Amazons, the bird fans his whole tail out (like a mini-horizontal peacock), again, to appear large and “scary.”

Blushing: Bare-faced birds like Macaws, allow you to visually observe the facial redness that accompanies excitement. (Actually, ALL parrots so this – we just can’t see it through the feathers! Some birds blush a light pink, others (Like my Amber), go a deep red. I find babies blush more than adults, as they experience new things in the world.

Head Bowing: The bird, while puffed up, eye-pinning, tail fanning, and blushing, also lowers his head, stretching out his neck. Often accompanied by a “growling” sort of sound, or with African Greys and Cockatiels, it’s more of a “hissing” sound.

Parrot Sensitivity to Emotion

Parrots are highly empathic – simply put, they feel our emotions. Some might call this statement a classic case of anthropomorphism, but I guarantee you, they’re people who don’t live with birds, as all of us who do have no doubts about our companions capacity for empathy! This is an important factor in dealing with all aspects of sharing your home with a parrot, as it directly affects behavior and is a common undercurrent in behavioral problems. If you feel anger towards a bird, he’s going to pick up on it

Spring Fever

It starts around March and often lasts until June, when things tend to even out again. It’s that time of year again–flowers are blooming, robins are nesting, bees are buzzing–and your sweet companion baby bird is suddenly moody and unpredictable. “Oh no, What do I do? My baby is turning mean!” Luckily it’s not a sign of a “good bird gone bad,” or an indication that you messed up as a bird parent–it’s simply the raging hormones of adolescence. Recognizing “spring fever” for what it is–simply, a transitional hormonal phase young birds go through in adolescence–will greatly ease their stress, as well as yours during this time of year.

Got this video forward from a friend regarding Goodyear Run on Flat Tires. Run-flat tires are awesome. Designed to resist the effects when punctured, run-flat tires let you travel at a reduced speed for a limited distance, usually up to 100 miles (some let you do 200 and over). Video has three sections so make sure you watch it all the way. BTW – I believe this series of commercials ran in England. This commercial is a little extreme but it gets its point across. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
