The Case: Catherine actually got a two episode plot arch for her farewell, which is pretty impresive. Anyways Willows in the Wind was a continuation of last weeks episode with the case against Mark Gabriel. The episode started with Catherine just having been shot. Most of the episode focuses on how while she is on the run from the professional hit squad hired by Mark Gabriel the CSI team is trying to piece together the case in the lab. Catherine's fake resignation letter is found by the CSI team further increasing the confusion regarding her disappearance with Russell. Both of whom congregated in a strip club while Catherine used her many connections to ultimately keep them safe. In a classic CSI twist the real mastermind though thought to be Mark Gabriel turned out to be his wife laura. Of course that information hit a bit too close to home for Catherine because of the fact that Laura was her old friend from childhood on. If that wasnt enough to make her actually resign than I dont know what was. A close second would be the job offer she got from the young FBI agent to come work for the Bureau. Needless to say the case paled in comparison to the emotional scenes that Catherine shared with her fellow co-workers.

Favorite Parts of the Episode:

Russell: A really interesting and dimensional character on the show

Goldilocks: Such a hilarious name for a stripper.

Laura: She honestly had me and the rest of the world fooled

Kitty the Prostitute: Actual comic relief in an episode this emotionally heavy? I'll take it.

Bodybags: That was some quick thinking on their part

Catherine: The whole episode was another testament to her acting
This was more than enough to put the crime drama ahead of a repeat of Law & Order: SVU (4.01 million) and a repeat of Revenge (3.12 million). In the key 18-49 demographic prized by advertisers, Helgenberger’s exit earned a season-high 3.3 rating/9 share. The SVU (1.4/4) and Revenge (0.9/2) repeats came in a distant second and third.
"Some actresses might shy away from playing a part like Catherine Willows, but Marg turned all of Catherine's negatives into positives. I miss her already." Helgenberger exits the series this week after a dozen years as the tough yet... well... tough Willows, and she spoke with TV Guide Magazine two days after filming her final scenes, discussing everything from William Petersen's near-return for her farewell to her future career as a dancer.

TV Guide Magazine: So was your last day like a celebration or a wake?
Helgenberger: [Laughs] To be honest, I didn't sleep well those first couple days afterward. It was a tearful exit from the set, then I went out with a few close friends like Eric [Szmanda], [Robert] David [Hall] and Jorja [Fox]. It's never a good idea to start drinking tequila at 10:30 at night, but it was a perfect way to end things. We closed the bar. But the next day, I couldn't sleep in. I was so wired from the last day and all the adrenaline.

TV Guide Magazine: Do you like the way Catherine is making her exit?
Helgenberger: It's been intense. These episodes were hard. But I'm happy with how it all went. For the past several years we'd mention that Catherine inherited casino land from her father. Going in that direction would have been an easy transition since she is affiliated in that world. An offer to join a federal task force seemed more professional, like a promotion. Also, Carol said that if they were to write an episode to entice me back, it would be easier given that I liked the idea [of Catherine joining the Feds]. And I am open to returning at some point. Just not right away.

TV Guide Magazine: So when did you first start planning how she departs?
Helgenberger: We started back in the summer, and initially, Billy [Petersen] wanted to come back for a couple of episodes. Carol and [exec producer] Don McGill and I had lunch with him to hash it out, but he and his wife had twins who were born prematurely, and that was way too overwhelming for him to deal with. Carol said that ultimately it was a blessing for me that he wasn't able to do it because she didn't want the episodes to be more about Grissom's return. Which it would have been. Now it's really just about Catherine.

TV Guide Magazine: For the past 12 years, you've been knee-deep in rotting corpses and oozing autopsies. What was your grossest moment on CSI?
Helgenberger: It was our 100th episode, about a gender reassignment surgery gone wrong. George [Eads], Gary [Dourdan] and I open up a storage unit and there is a man who had started the process of changing. He looked like a woman but was dead, splayed out on a table, legs in stirrups. It was a bloody mess. Even the crew said, "We gotta get outta here!" There was no acting required. Even now I am looking at it in my head!

TV Guide Magazine: Any favorite episodes?
Helgenberger: I had so much fun with comic episodes, although there were not a whole lot of them. We did a lot of stuff that's a bit off. Plushies and furries — and a diaper episode. I remember I found some poo while looking for evidence, and someone asks me, "What do you have?" And I said, "I got crap!" I remember that was one of those episodes that went way up to the top with the question of how much poo we could actually show. It's funny how people were more freaked out by human excrement than the violent images on the show.

TV Guide Magazine: What was the worst thing about being Catherine Willows?
Helgenberger: Probably the pressure of always having to look good while on the job. There were days when I wanted to come in and do my scenes in sweatpants.

TV Guide Magazine: And the best thing?
Helgenberger: Her commitment to her job, her passion, her dedication. I learned confidence from her. I'm not as shy now as I was, thanks to her, to everything that goes along with a hit show and the amount of attention you get.

TV Guide Magazine: Were you ever freaked out by all the recognition?
Helgenberger: The show became this global sensation, so it was difficult to even go around Paris and Madrid and not get stopped all the time. I do remember being in Musée d'Orsay in Paris, which has some of the most extraordinary art in the world. I was with my family, looking at the Van Goghs, and this crowd surrounded me. It was kind of embarrassing. I remember thinking, "Here's Van Gogh and Matisse and Manet, and you want a picture with me?" Another time, I was recognized while watching a flamenco show in Spain and brought up on stage. And I thought, "I'm going to have to do [flamenco] when I get back home." But have I ever? No. But now I've got the time. Maybe that'll be my next move... professional flamenco dancer.
I feel like she is going to get the best goodbye episodes of many of the characters.

The Case: There was a return of Mark Gabriel the man in charge of a corrupt military operation crew that was suspected of running drugs in the US only a few episodes back. Also Catherine's friend Laura who is married to Gabriel returned to make Catherine's goodbye a little more real. Anyways a lawyer and his two other workers were all shot and immediately disposed of in a very professional fashion. The result was three skeletons found by some vegas campers. An analysis of the bugs (Nick <3) and the use of security cameras led them to the identification of a french style super soldier hired by the government program Sarasiss. (butchered that spelling). When Cathering gets the FBI (meaning her attractive FBI hubby) involved something goes tragically wrong while en route to a safe house with Laura. Ending in the hubby and Laura supposedly being burned to a crisp within a car by an agent that was really one of the enemies team. I suspect its a set-up and the two characters are really fine but I am gonna have to wait for next week to find out. Also the episode ended with the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers. With Catherine getting shot and narrowly escaping death thanks to Russell.

Favorite Parts of the Episode:

Hodges: Always good for a laugh especially in such a sad episode

Nick and Greg: I love the banter between those two

Nick and bugs: Kind of a bad attempt to replace grissom by the writers but I like it anways.

Catherine: She has done more acting in this one episode than in 12 seasons. Very heavy stuff

Ted Danson: Saved Catherines life and obviously cares for her

Vartann?: I dont get it was there a big break up that I missed along the line.

FBI McQuaid: That guy is total candy to Catherine Willows. Hes oldish, brooding and manly. Just like everyother guy shes dated.

Laura: Why did she hide under the floorboards and not help her cousin.

This case: Very interesting and also relevant in the political climate.
Founding series star Marg Helgenberger's Catherine Willows leaves the CBS show in a two-part episode that starts Wednesday (Jan. 18). Then, "Leaving Las Vegas" Oscar nominee Shue returns to Vegas -- at least figuratively, since the drama is filmed largely in Los Angeles -- when her Julie "Finn" Finlay joins the crime lab Wednesday, Feb. 15.

"I'm really enjoying it," Shue tells Zap2it of getting back into a regular work pace she hasn't had since doing ABC's drama "Call to Glory" in the mid-1980s. "I remember that what I loved about it was the feeling of almost like being in repertory theater. There's such a family feel to a group that's gone on for years and years, and I feel it immediately when I'm there [at 'CSI']. Everyone is so happy to see each other. They know each other inside and out, so it's a very comfortable environment."

Shue says that also pertains to fellow "CSI" newbie Ted Danson, whose D.B. Russell has a past with Finlay ... specifically, his having fired her when they worked together previously.

"There's something really nice about knowing you have time to discover your character and figure out the relationships," adds Shue, whose credits also include such iconic movies as the first "Karate Kid," "Adventures in Babysitting" and the two "Back to the Future" sequels.

"You always know there's a chance to keep working and keep improving, like when you do a play. This night might not be the greatest, but tomorrow night, I'll get it," she says. "It's always evolving and changing, so you don't put as much pressure on every moment."

The newest "CSI" hire could potentially help the show land a visit from a notable director: Shue's husband, Davis Guggenheim ("An Inconvenient Truth," "Waiting for 'Superman'"), who has worked in television on such series as "Deadwood," "The Shield" and "24."

"He just likes doing pilots," Shue explains, "because he's really focused on doing documentaries. He does a pilot a year, then he puts all of his other time into documentary work ... but I'll bet we could probably get him to do one 'CSI.' Yeah."

CSI follows a team of crime scene investigators using forensic science to solve cases, but what would happen if the science and technology wasn’t available?

This season’s sixteenth episode will find the Las Vegas Crime Lab facing a ticking clock.

“There’s a blackout in Las Vegas in the southwest,” “Our machines go down so some of our high-tech stuff is not available to us,” the source shares. Adding, “We have to go old school forensics and improvise some stuff to solve a crime that has a ticking clock.”

Episode Sixteen, which written by Gavin Harris (“73 Seconds” and “Brain Doe”) will revolve around one of the most horrific crimes possible, and certainly one a CSI would not want to be under pressure to solve. “There’s a kidnapping, and during that kidnapping, the lights go out in Vegas and our backup generators are not working out the way they should be. Usually, when there’s been a kidnapping, if you haven’t found them in seventy-two hours you will probably not find them,” educates the source. ”That creates an obstacle for our CSI team.”
She has been with the series since it began in 2000, and it wasn’t an easy decision to say goodbye. “There are a lot of mixed feelings definitely and in the last few months I have sometimes found myself questioning if it is the right thing to do but ultimately it feels right,” Helgenberger told the The Daily Record.

“I won’t reveal exactly how I leave the show but I am not being killed off and there could be the possibility for me to return for an episode or two,” the actress added. Regarding the decision to keep Catherine alive, Helgenberger explained, “I didn’t want to end up as a corpse on the show. And the writers thought it would be a little harsh for the fans.”
This easily put the crime drama ahead of Barbra Walters Presents, which averaged 8.34 million viewers from 9:30-11:00pm, and a repeat of Law & Order: SVU (4.36 million). In the key 18-49 demographic prized by advertisers, CSI earned a 3.0 rating/8 share, which was up from the previous episode as well. Walters (2.3/6) and SVU (1.2/3) rounded out the hour.

The Case: Mrs. Robbins (the wife of Doc robbins) found a dead man in her bed and found herself under the investigation of the CSI team. The dead man was a geneologist named Dan Axler who either was hired to complete Doc Robbins family tree or was having an affair with the fairly pretty Mrs. Robbins. The issue of that almost split the team down the middle.

Upon evaluation of the geneological society Dan Axler's other clients came into the suspicion. Especially as young Ms. Duggan who was searching for her long lost grandfather Samuel. When the name Duggan appeared on the Axler client list the case started to make more and more sense.

Before they could connect the Duggan family to the crime, it was determined that the Naked Axler was smothered with a pillow in the actual marriage bed of the Robbin's. Just when the case couldnt make Mrs. Robbins look any guiltier, it was discovered that the Duggans may actually have been behind the murder. The mother of the family Mrs. Duggan was a drug addict. She had two kids, one is in prison and the other acts as if the family does not exist.

However several DNA tests and geneological investigations later it was discovered that there was another Duggan who the mother had in 1971. The fact is, the Mother (im assuming in a drugged up state of mind) had sex with her then 13 year old son, resulting in the youngest Duggan. Of course in a ridiculous rage when he heard this information from Axler he killed him, right over Mrs. Robbins head.

Favorite Parts of the Episode:

Hodges: Some of the best Hodges one liners of the season

Robbins: Ok so I knew he had no legs, but showing it (finally) and all of the acting he got to do was well deserved for both the character and the actor.

Greg Hojem Sanders: I liked his screen time with the geneologist and I hope he continues the habit

Nick: Where on earth was nick?

Brass: I loved his apology almost as much as I liked his straight up attitude

Mrs. Robbins: She was way way beautiful. the information on her sex life....that was just a tad TMI.

Henry: His interactions this week with DB Russell were the best for him of the season.

Ted Danson: Consistently strong every week.
