Bitter Pill: PelosiCare Bill Passes the House

James Lansberry is vice president of Peoria-based Samaritan Ministries International. His articles have been published in Heritage Forum, the Journal of Modern Ministry and he has been interviewed by the CBS Evening News, U.S. News and World Report and the Washington Post.

Almost 2,000 pages long, the PelosiCare health care plan was passed in the House this past Saturday evening. James noted that the current bill is slightly better than HR-3200 when it started out because it did include an amendment that will prohibit any federal funds for abortion in the public option. Overall, he believes we need to have the patient in the center of the health care picture as opposed to a third-party payer or employer-centric system.

Now it moves on to the Senate. Does the bill have a chance "as is" or will the Senate seek changes? James comments on this and much more as Crosstalk seeks to get at the truth regarding health care reform.

After this, Ingrid presented her perspective on yesterday's massacre at Fort Hood and how it's being treated in the media. Overall she noted how we've created such an environment of political correctness that it's causing us to not see Islam for what it really is.

Vic and Janet began by discussing the possible fallout due to the signing of hate crimes legislation by President Obama, a signing that took place just minutes before this program went on the air.

The main thrust of the program dealt with an idea birthed by Janet--an idea that may be causing legislators on Capitol Hill to rethink how they view new pieces of legislation, as well as the input of their constituents. The Pink Slip Campaign gives citizens an opportunity to send pink slips to legislators in the House and Senate to let them know that they could be back home, working in the private sector, as early as 2010 if they vote for increased taxes, socialized health care, hate crimes legislation or cap and trade.

And as was mentioned, the Hate Crimes bill indeed was passed and signed into law today as part of the Defense Authorization bill.

Big Brother: FCC Wants to Control the Internet?

Jesse Benton is the Senior Vice President of the Campaign for Liberty, an organization dedicated to promoting and defending the principles of individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, and free markets through educational and political activity.

FCC regulators have voted in favor of what's known as network neutrality regulation. The idea behind the move is to prevent internet service providers from restricting content to the users.

Jesse gave two examples that exemplify both sides of the issue. He cited Verizon, a company that is against network neutrality. They say that they've built the networks necessary to deliver the internet to consumers. Google, on the other hand, is in favor of network neutrality because they don't want Verizon to be able to decide at what speeds different traffic will be allowed.

Cap and Trade or Bait and Switch?

Mike Carey is executive director of the American Council on Affordable and Reliable Energy (ACARE). ACARE is a coalition of businesses, nonprofit organizations and individuals who support public policies that encourage the production and delivery of the energy required by a growing economy.

The attempt to regulate carbon dioxide via cap and trade legislation is a big issue in the news. Legislative bills in Congress supporting this effort are said to be "bait and switch" traps for both politicians and industry. The "bait and switch" comes as politicians and industries are lured into supporting such legislation while at the same time being falsely told that carbon dioxide can be effectively captured and stored.

Iran: Democracy Rising?

Slater Bakhtavar, a native of Iran, is a published journalist, policy analyst, and practicing attorney. His interest in politics has enabled him to contribute his knowledge to several journals, magazines, and media outlets. He is actively involved in analyzing foreign policy for various organizations and he's also the author of the new book, Iran: The Green Movement.

Election protests in Iran show that many citizens are dissatisfied with their government. This dissatisfaction has spawned one entity known as the Green Movement. This is a peaceful, civil disobedience movement that Slater says is active on campuses as well as the Internet.

The pro-democracy movement in general, however, needs help, and Slater admits that the movement seeks moral support from the U.S. Complicating matters is the fact that the Obama administration has cut funding for pro-democracy and human rights programs in Iran.

U.N. Global Blasphemy Resolution--A Warning

This non-binding resolution, sponsored by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), seeks to criminalize words or actions that are considered to be offensive to those of other religions, namely Islam.

If passed, this resolution would have major implications for those who share the gospel, especially in countries where Christians are already marginalized.

Gospel-Powered Parenting

William P. Farley is the pastor of Grace Christian Fellowship in Spokane, Washington. He's the author of Gospel-Powered Parenting: How the Gospel Shapes and Transforms Parenting.

Books on "right" or "correct" parenting abound. The problem is, even in the Christian realm, how many books on parenting are truly gospel centered?

Originally designed to be a book on fatherhood, William eventually ended up with a book that expresses things that he feels no one else was saying on the issue of parenting. Specifically, he wanted to communicate that Christian parents can't simply protect their children from worldly influences and think they've done their job. They need to steer their children to the new birth as described in the gospel as this will help children themselves to overcome the world.

The Emergent Church: Undefining Christianity

Pastor Bob DeWaay is the Senior Pastor of Twin City Fellowship in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pastor DeWaay may also be remembered by many Crosstalk listeners for his authorship of the book, Redefining Christianity: Understanding the Purpose Driven Movement. His latest book is entitled, The Emergent Church: Undefining Christianity.

The Emergent Church is a hard entity to pin down. Perhaps the best description came from Pastor DeWaay who said, "The eschatology that they hold to is...God is in the future drawing everything to himself." Pastor DuWaay went on to explain how "emergents" believe that God is pulling history toward himself so that the kingdom of God is emerging through things that are happening on the earth right now. They also believe that we are to cooperate with all people as we are working to bring forth the better world that they feel is emerging.

Jerome R. Corsi is a staff reporter for WorldNetDaily. He received a Ph.D. from Harvard University in political science in 1972 and has written many books and articles. Flood Legends: Global Clues of a Common Event

This Crosstalk began with Jim Schneider updating listeners on four separate stories.

The first dealt with the passing of home school advocate, Chris Klicka. Chris was a long-time employee of the Home School Legal Defense Association and occasional Crosstalk guest.

Two other stories dealt with time-sensitive legislative issues. These included the current Capitol Hill voting status of both the national health care reform bill and hate crimes legislation.

The final update concerned Rifqa Bary who's plight was first discussed on Crosstalk on August 17th. Bary is a 17 year old woman who converted from Islam to Christianity and is allegedly under the threat of death via "honor killing" if she is returned from Florida to her home in Ohio.

The remainder of the program featured guest Charles Martin. He received his B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Virginia Charlottesville. He is the author of the book, Flood Legends: Global Clues of a Common Event.

Charles joined Jim Schneider to look at flood mythology and legend from around the world. By tying these together with other clues of a global flood event, he presents a compelling case for the historicity of the biblical flood narrative.

Obama's Speech to the Human Rights Campaign

He spoke before the Human Rights Campaign, a grassroots force representing over 750,000 members and supporters nationwide. The H.R.C. bills themselves as the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization.

During the second half of the program, Crosstalk listeners offered their views in response to the speech, a presentation in which President Obama communicated his enthusiastic support for the homosexual lifestyle.

Hate Crimes on Fast Track

This Crosstalk takes a look at hate crimes legislation that leaders in the House planned to slip into the 2010 Defense Authorization Bill, a bill that may be voted on yet today. The bill would expand federal hate crimes to include violence against individuals based upon sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or disability.

Pastors and Christian leaders are concerned that this bill could restrict their right to free speech and religious freedom, since some people may interpret biblical warnings against homosexuality as hate speech.

Censorship for Banned Books Week?

Regina Griggs is the Executive Director of PFOX (Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays). They lead the nation in providing outreach, education, and public awareness in support of families and the ex-gay community.

Regina joined Vic Eliason in discussion of Banned Books Week, a week of recognition sponsored by the American Library Association. More specifically, PFOX is asking the A.L.A. to include books dealing with the topic of ex-gays during the "celebration of the freedom to read" program.

In spite of the fact that the A.L.A.'s own policy recommends diversity in the collection of books, they refuse to state whether or not ex-gay books are included in that policy.

Vic also shared the news that a vote on hate crimes legislation may happen on Thursday of this week. The differences between the House and Senate versions requires that the matter goes to a conference committee. Congress is set to take a final vote and if approved, President Obama will sign the legislation into law.

Chicago Gun Rights Case Goes to SCOTUS

Muzzle the Christians

Brad Dacus, President of the Pacific Justice Institute, joined Ingrid Schlueter for the early portion of this Crosstalk that examined recent attacks against Christian religious freedom.

The first example discussed a music and dance teacher for a public school district in California. She was fired from her job because she didn't remove the references to God from her presentation. It was also reported that the jury was sterilized of people of faith and trial lawyers for the school district argued that the teacher didn't have a religious discrimination case because she didn't suffer as much as the Jews.

Peter LaBarbera is the President of Americans for Truth. He joined Jim Schneider to discuss the literal avalanche of pro-homosexual legislation that is awaiting senate and congressional approval.

The focal point of discussion was the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA--HR-3017/S-1584), a homosexual rights act that has serious ramifications concerning who Christian organizations of 15 or more employees can hire or refuse to hire.

Also discussed is hate crimes legislation, a repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, the Ending Health Disparities for LGBT Americans Act (HR-3001), anti bullying legislation, legislation designed to repeal the "Don't Ask-Don't Tell" military policy, as well as Obama's "Safe Schools" czar, Kevin Jennings. Jennings was the founder of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

David Conn joined the Defense Department as a liaison among West Coast Navy and Air Force bases, the Defense Department and several industrial transportation companies. Prior to that Conn was lead analyst with Chevron’s environmental laboratory.

David is a recognized expert on cult mentalities and coauthored the book, The Cult that Died, published by G. P. Putnams’s Sons, New York.

David has interviewed many of the people he has chosen to fictionalize in his new novel, Lednorf’s Dilemma, including professors, theologians, politicians, and numerous technical people within private industry and the Department of Defense, as well as, at times, various intelligence agents.

From his cadre of "czars", to the unprecedented amount of time he is spending on TV, to the praise some children are being taught to sing about him; Barack Obama's presidency and life appears to have more than a few things in common with cult leaders.

As someone who took Jim Jones "head on" 3 decades ago, Conn has the experience to make such comparisons. The parallels he draws on this broadcast should cause us to pause and prayerfully consider the possible implications for both the immediate and long term future of our nation.

From here, Jack detailed how this was proven through the efforts of another author's admittance in an interview with Fox Network's Sean Hannity.

According to Brannon, this is important information because Bill Ayers, a past terrorist, is writing social justice curriculum, a curriculum that Brannon believes is a code for marxism, socialism and communism.

Chris Rosebrough has a degree in Religious Studies and Biblical Language from Concordia University-Irvine and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University. He's also the host of an Internet radio program called, "Fighting for the Faith".

Chris recently attended a conference in Chicago concerning the growing Emergent Church Movement. One leading emergent leader is Tony Jones, who is popularizing the thinking of German theologian Jurgen Moltmann from his 1964 book, Theology of Hope.

A key to understanding the "Emergent Movement" is their eschatology (the doctrine of last things). Moltmann bases his thinking on 19th century theologian/philosopher, G.W.F. Hegel. Hegel embraced contradiction, pitting a thesis against an antithesis with the outcome being a new synthesis.

As a result, Moltmann sees Christ's death and resurrection as two contradictory events. The resulting synthesis is a new world and a hope filled eschatology with no second coming or judgment. Thus "Emergent Theology" teaches that God is renewing the world; that the gospel is good news for everyone, so Christians need to stop telling people they are sinners in need of a Savior.

Obama's Czars

Scott Wheeler is the executive director of the National Republican Trust, the #3 conservative Republican Political Action Committee in America. A former television producer and investigative journalist, he has produced seventeen television documentaries and consulted on more than a dozen others. Scott is also a writer who focuses on domestic and international security issues. His latest effort is Shadow Government: What Obama Doesn't Want America to Know About His Czars.

According to Scott, the idea of government "czars" (a loose term for government advisers) began with Franklin Roosevelt, or as some suggest, possibly Hoover. The most in any one administration was twelve, until George W. Bush had about 22.

The Constitution gives congress the authority to allow the president to appoint low level officers but it's congress that dictates who a low level officer can be, and how many they can have, if any.

One example of an Obama czar is Cass Sunstein, the new regulatory czar. He will have enormous power and oversee regulations on multiple areas with a huge budget. Congress has not demanded that the White House provide the answer as to what exactly he will be overseeing. However, we do know that he has advocated the right of animals to execute lawsuits against people. He's also anti-gun and anti-hunting, as well as being in favor of the "Fairness Doctrine", legislation that would hinder broadcasting.

Who are some of the other czars? Is the existence of government czars proof of a "shadow" government that operates outside the existence of the main governmental system? Get answers to these and other questions dealing with Obama's "czar" system of governance on this edition of Crosstalk.

A Pro-Life Martyr Remembered

Matt Trewhella, is the pastor of Mercy Seat Christian Church, as well as the head of Missionaries to the Preborn. Cal Zastrow is the co-founder of Personhood U.S.A.

This Crosstalk begins with Vic detailing the September 11th murder of 63 year old Jim Pouillon, a pro-life defender who was shot outside Owosso High School in the small community of Owosso, Michigan, northeast of Lansing.

Matt and Cal share their memories of Jim, recounting how he was not afraid of man nor was he afraid to stand for the unborn because he had a healthy fear of God. Their testimonies about Jim show how he truly had his "hand to the plow" which made him an uncompromising witness for those most vulnerable to the evil we know as abortion.

Jim Pouillon is being remembered in memorial events, one on Sunday, and another one scheduled for Wednesday, September 16.
