May Flower project with Jan

This week, Jan shares a great idea for a quick and easy home decor project!

Using the Couture Creations Emporium Tag die-cut, I cut my flowers and switched the centers around to give them more interest. I used only the center piece from the die-cut for the third flower.

Next, for the stems, I painted some wooden BBQ skewers with Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Paint - Picked Raspberry. I layered Deco Sticker Gold Foil Flower Stickers in the center of two of the flowers.

On the front of the crock flower pot, I used Crafters Workshop's Love Birds Template and the Picked Raspberry Distress paint to add some leaves. A piece of May Art's Sheer Satin Band, White Ribbon completes the project!

Vicki here...back again today with a fun project I created at a recent crop that I attended.

We always have a challenge to complete on Saturday evening. The past couple of crops it's been an altered art challenge. Not a problem for me except the time frame is shorter than I am used to having for this type of project. Fortunately, I had all of my favorite mixed media products in tow and put them to good use along with my heat tool!

This is the finished frame. Now...here's the how!

I started with just a raw unfinished wooden frame that's more than likely from a local craft store. Since time was a factor, I used a very, very light coat of gesso to help seal the wood. I added some of my favorite mists and distress inks all from Ranger.

The bottom right corner was the next order of business because it needed the most time to dry. Using my Want2Scrap Brick template, I used a plastic gift card to apply glass bead gel. Love this stuff!!

I used my heat tool to help dry it a little faster. You can see the difference in the appearance as the gel dries and the beads become almost transparent.

In the lower left, I added some trees with a template, modeling paste and Flower Soft for texture. The chipboard letters, heart and house were from my stash.

Across the top I used more modeling paste and added some flying geese. I inked them when they dried. The cloud is also made with modeling paste and Flower Soft. The jeweled flourishes for some "wind" effect and the frame is finished!

I sprayed a coating of Thermoweb Glitter Dust over the entire frame to add more shimmer.

Guest Designer Thursday with Jan Tatomir

Once again, our May guest designer, Jan Tatomir, is "tickled pink" to share her headband project with you!

I love it when I can use my scrapping goodies on other projects! This is a quick and "easy to do" project that starts with a plastic headband.

I sprayed the entire headband with spray adhesive and layered the beautiful May Arts fuschia ribbon onto the headband.

I love how the zig zag of the headband shows through the ribbon somewhat.

I used the Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Paint, Picked Raspberry, on the pretty paper flower. The dauber application made this really easy. I wanted a little of the white to show through on the flower for contrast.

When everything was dry, I popped the flower on the headband with a bit of glue.

Dream frame with Tracey Cooley!

Today, CropStop would like to share a project created by Tracey Cooley, special project designer for Couture Creations.

My husband works away a lot and my beautiful 8yr old daughter Tayla is a wonderful help to me, she helps me with her little sister (3), does chores and is generally a wonderful young lady. So as a surprise I made this frame for her bedroom wall as a gift for all that she does.

I purchased 2, 8"x10" black frames from my local discount store and then cut a piece of white cardstock with the Couture Creations Fantasia Doily Die - Irish Dreams (first applying the ejection foam that comes with the die that is found in between the back packaging).

I stamped a T for her name in the middle of the doily. Then with Couture Creations 12 ml double-sided tape I covered the gap in the back of the doily, just around the centre. Flipping it over I used my Couture Creations Precision Craft Knife to trim away any unwanted tape. I then applied some blue glitter (being Tayla's favourite colour).

I then took the glass from my second frame and sandwiched the doily in between it and the original frame. HINT: I made some chipboard chocks to keep the glass in place as I did not want to use the backing board from the frame but you could use silicone to do this as a more permanent solution.

Then I simply embellished the front of the glass with some matching elements.

The best thing about this frame is that Tayla loved it!

Jan's first canvas project!

Today, Jan shares her first experience working with canvas.

Follow her simple step by step to see how she assembled this awesome project!

First, I brushed a store bought canvas with a 50-50 mix of white glue and water.

I then crumpled up a sheet of tissue paper and layered it over the wet glue.

Next, I added some more of the glue mixture over the top of the tissue and let it dry.

I mixed 3 colors of Glimmer Mist * together and poured some of the mixture into a cup and added water to thin it out a bit leaving the rest as it was.

Then I lightly brushed the watered down color over the tissue and added a bit of darker color here and there.

I used the Crafters Workshop Dina Wakley Mini Love Bird Stencil and embossing paste * to add the birds to the canvas.

Next, I added the SRM Sticker Sentiments along with some leaves using the Crafters Workshop Stencil and more embossing paste*.

I cut the little birds' nest in half and used glue to attach it to the canvas.

Paper Embroidery with Michelle

I am using folders from Couture Creations' Fresh and Fun collection.

As soon as I saw this folder: Fudge, I knew what I wanted to do, and being an organized pack rat, I knew right where the paper was that I wanted to use with this piece!

Check out the fun detail stitching this folder gives you!

Supplies for this technique are quite simple...you will want some embroidery floss, a piercing tool and a foam mat of sorts to pierce into. I recommend piercing the indented side of the design, your thread will lay nicely in the embossed channels. You can make your stitches as long as you like, but on the curved areas I recommend keeping them fairly close together so your stitching bends easily with the design.

On this example you can see the effect done on the Powder Puff embossing folder. For this project I embossed on Tim Holtz's Core'dinations' Distress Collection paper, and hit the embossing with some sandpaper.

I used the embossing side up on this one because I wanted the sanding detailing to pop the puffs. I used longer stitches with some iridescent floss for some of the puffs. Other supplies are Martha Stewart Snowflake Punch and Candi Dot Embellishments.

My final project using this technique would be this card using the Magical embossing folder. I selectively decided which areas to stitch and then stitched the indented side of the panel.

This is a fun way to add a whole new layer of detailing to your layouts and papercraft projects!

Vicki here...sharing a card today that I created using the new Pansy/Violet Thinlits die from Sizzix. What a super fun die-cut! You can get as creative as you want with colors, layers and overall design of your flowers.

"With love..."

The card base is made from a rich coral colored Bazzill. I used the reverse side of Graphic 45's Leafy Treetops patterned paper from the Secret Garden collection for the second layer. The next layer was stamped first and then embossed with Couture Creations, Magical Embossing Folder from the Fresh and Fun Collection. The main focus of the card, the yellow and purple pansy was made using the Sizzix Pansy/Violet Thinlits set.

I stamped the doily image with Stampin' Up's "Hello Doily" onto white cardstock using Ranger Distress Ink - Bundled Sage.

Then I embossed it with Couture Creations "Magical" Embossing Folder from the Fresh and Fun Collection.

I love this double image effect you get with stamping and then embossing.

The Sizzix Thinlits Pansy/Violet set has 12 dies. It includes petals for the pansy and violet along with leaves for the flowers. I used purple, yellow and green cardstock to create the pansy petals and leaves.

Here is a close up of the finished pansy. After assembling the petals to form the flower, I drew the dark lines with a Ranger Distress Marker - Aged Mahogany. Wow, the distress markers are great for projects like this. I added some Ranger Glitter Glue Stickles - Icicle to the yellow petals and Twinkling H2O -Plum Crazy watercolor to the purple petals.

I finished off the card with a white bow and key charm. I used the Craft-Dee Bowz Tool to make my bow. What a great tool this is! Makes me wonder why I waited so long to purchase one.

May's Guest Designer, Jan, shines like gold!

Jan here with some crafty inspiration for you today!

I used my CropStop product to adorn this glassine bag. This will make a great journaling card envelope or a gift card holder.

Using the Couture Creations Dream folder, I embossed two different patterned papers with the same area of the embossing folder. I cut the papers into 1 inch squares and alternately pieced them together to make the "quilted" background.

For the butterfly, I embossed a square shaped blot of ink with gold embossing powder and then cut out the butterfly with Couture Creations Art Deco butterfly die. The WOW! gold embossing powder

accentuates the details of the butterfly. I added a piece of May Arts white sheer ruffle edge ribbon under the butterfly.

Here's a close up of the Action Wobble Spring that I placed under the butterfly. It adds both motion and dimension to the butterfly.

Wendy's "Dream Big" layout!

Wendy shares one last amazing layout as our CropStop April Guest Designer!

"Dream Big"

On this page, I decided to finally try out the ombre effect - I cut multiple Memory Box Winged Swirl Circles and laid them on my paper as stencils. I chose 4 mist colors all in the pink family to spray my paper. I used the American Crafts My Girl collection to build the designs on this layout, of course there are some fussy cut elements that I added too and some stickles - gotta love the sparkle.

My daughter was so thrilled to see a stand of cakes designed by Buddy - we even had a short photo shoot with Buddy himself (or at least the cardboard version) to commemorate this occasion!

Hi Cathi O'Neill here, and I am excited to share with you my first project as a member of the Couture Creations Design Team.

I've done a layout using many embossing folders and dies and a large range of tools and adhesives.

Here is how I put it together!! First I made the 3D embossed roses that I used to embellish the layout. To make them, I used the two smallest Couture Creations Daisy Nesting Dies. For the larger rose, use two small and one large die cut. For the smaller roses, it only takes two of the smaller shape. First cut the shapes needed and then emboss. I embossed them using the Elegance Collection Loren embossing folder

My sanding block helped reveal the awesome texture from the embossing folder.

I used my craft knife to cut deeper petals for making the flowers.

Shape the flower by bringing every second petal up and curving them, glue the remaining petals to form the rosebud, making sure the embossed and sanded edge is facing outwards.

Shape the next flower die cut by making circular motions on the underside of each petal using the a stylus

For the second layer of the small rose, glue your finished rosebud in the center this time with the embossed side facing up, then press and shape and glue in to place.

To make larger roses simply add more die cut daisy cut outs, alternating the petal placement between the previous layer so they have a natural full look.

Next I used ink dabbers to distress the outer edge of several die cuts I made using the Scallop Ovals nesting dies.

Adhere the die cuts using double sided tape

I used the gorgeous frame of the Elegance Collection - Super Marina embossing folder to make a frame for my photo. I fussy cut around the frame and used foam tape to lift it up and showcase it on the layout.

To finish off the layout I added some Self Adhesive Pearls in Blush Pink, and covered my chipboard flourish with a subtle treatment of Crystalina Glitzin' Glamour Premium Glitter Glue.

Vicki here...It's spring! Well, at least it's supposed to be. Our weather has been a little wacky here in the Poconos. It ranges anywhere from 80 degrees one day to 50 degrees the next. Personally, I would settle for 75 degrees year round!

The flowers are blooming and that is inspiring! I love the colors of the daffodils, forsythia, and hyacinths. So, for my project today, I am going to share a mini tutorial for a fun flower to use on your craft projects.

I started with a piece of Orange Springtime and White Swirl sheer fabric. It has the most beautiful shimmer to it and comes in an 8 x 10 size.

I die cut the fabric with my Spellbinders Blossom Nestabilities. I made 7 orange and 7 white of both the larger and smaller circle. The different sizes will help to create the dimension of the flower.

The base of the flower is a circle of cardstock that you can cut freehand, punch, or die-cut. I drew two circles, one larger and one smaller inside the outer circle. This is where I will glue the fabric.

I folded each circle in half and then in half again adding a dab of hot glue before the second fold to hold the petal in place.

This is what your flower petals should look like after folding and gluing.

Using my hot glue gun, I adhered each folded circle (petal) around the outer circle first.

Then I adhered the petals to the inner circle filling in the middle with any extra.

I glued a large glitter dot from my stash in the center of the flower. I love the embossed prints on the fabric and how it adds extra texture to the petals.

Sweet "Freedom" layout from Wendy!

"Freedom"

I started by playing with the embossing folder from Couture Creation's Serenity Collection, Ambrosia, on some Core-dinations cardstock, wow that had some great effects! I also fussy cut some of the leaves from the pattern. I used the Crafters WorkshopWeave Template and the Tim Holtz Frayed Burlap distress paint dabber, with a few mists to create the brown patterns at the top and bottom of my design. Next, I used my Memory box Winged Swirl die to cut out 2 of the shapes and then heat embossed them with my Zing powder.

This is our youngest when he was 1 - this was the first time he was able to get around outside as he had only just started walking, but he was thrilled!

I inked and embossed the Memory Box Winged Swirl Circle die cut to use as an embellishment.

Follow Up Friday with Spellbinders Ornamental Swirls

Vicki here...This week I played with my Spellbinders Ornamental Swirls 3D M-Bossabilities. What an elegant, detailed embossing folder!

I chose some of my favorite SEI velvet paper for this project. I knew that the M-Bossabilities folder would really leave a beautiful impression in the velvet.

The rich rust color of the velvet paper looked great with the warm colors in my Graphic 45 French Country paper. I used Spellbinders Fancy Tags and Symbology One dies for the tag and embellishments on the card. It was a difficult choice how to add a sentiment because I didn't want to cover any of the embossing. So, I went with a small tag and stamped sentiment.

This M-bossibilities folder is one that you will surely want to add to your collection!
