More History of Croc Shoes

Croc shoes are the very soul of entrepreneurship. They are the first of their kind, born from the dream of a man who specialized in getting things off the ground and now works to help others learn to do the same. This man, George B. Boedecker Jr., is a master of free enterprise. He started out working for Dominos, where he owned and operated a whopping 100 franchises throughout North America. He then moved over to the Canadian Quiznos company in 1996, where he worked as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of International Sales and Operations until 2002. Additionally, he founded Oregon Food Concepts, LLC, a company that owns and operates multiple Quiznos locations throughout the states of Washington and Oregon.

In 2002, he left Quiznos to be the Chief Executive Officer of Crocs, the company that he created and founded. He held this position until 2006, when he left Crocs to work for the Anthony H. Kruse Foundation as its director—a position which allows him to help share his dream and enable others to have the courage to pursue theirs.

During the time that George Boedecker was with Crocs, it experienced substantial growth. This growth started when Boedecker took the first 200 pairs of Croc shoes to a boat show in Ft. Lauderdale, and within hours, sold every pair. The next move for the company was to buy the rights to “croslite,” the key component of Croc shoes, as well as the company that manufactured it, Foam Creations. Croslite is what gives Croc shoes both their multiple health benefits and their incomparable comfort ratings. Boedecker’s last action with the company was to purchase the Jibbitz company in 2006, and to continue the mass production of “Jibbitz,” little decorations that are designed to pop in and out of the ventilation ports in Croc shoes.

After he left, Crocs continued to expand its horizons, beginning production on sandals and golf shoes after acquiring Ocean Minded and Bite Footware in 2007. Purses and clothing are also manufactured by Crocs, who currently employs over 5,300 people and runs on an annual operating budget of 168.2 million dollars each year.

Croc shoes are an example of an amazing product that led to an amazing company, and all because of one amazing man. This story is an inspiration to free enterprise worldwide, and a testimony of just what can happen when you choose to follow your dreams.

One so one story in a foreign country emerges that a kid gets his foot stuck in a escalator due to wearing croc shoes and now you want to never wear croc shoes again. What if you were wearing jeans and they got caught, would you never wear jeans again, or always wear shorts. If so then you are an idiot.

It’s programs like 20/20 and more that practically scare people into doing the dumbest things I have ever heard of.  Be afraid of hotel rooms, be afraid of water parks, be afraid of Applebees. The list goes on and on. And if you watched and believed everything you’ve seen on tv then you would live a very sheltered life. There are far more dangerous things then wearing croc shoes. Perhaps driving to the mall. Driving to the mall is far more dangerous then taking the escalator. And if you are so afraid of your croc shoes getting stuck in a escalator then take the stairs.

Sorry to have to do this but I needed to debunk that ridiculous story I’ve read. Stop being afraid and go buy a pair of Croc Shoes, you’ll thank me.

The people at Unique Beasts created the greatest in your face Croc invention.  They’ve made a pet bed in the shape of a giant Crocs shoe and it’s called the Sasquatch Pet Bed.

I literally laughed out loud when I saw this picture. It’s funny because I found this picture on a site that was completely bashing Crocs. This is a shot in the arm for all you Croc haters. Now I will admit it’s a little exessive but I’m sure they are just as comfortable as the shoe and twice as roomy.

I dare someone to buy two of these beds and walk around the streets of New York wearing what looks to be two giant croc shoes. It would be hilarious. Maybe for a funny college prank you could put these on a statue. That would be funny too.

After reading a little bit of the blog I got this from, I can only laugh at the utter disgust people have with Croc shoes. They are only shoes people, it’s not like second hand smoke or Paris Hilton. I’m sure if you just went up and talked to someone wearing Crocs, you’ll find that they are probably really nice people, or a chef.

History

Jibbitz was born in 2005 when owner and stay-at-home mom, Sheri Schmelzer, and her three children were inspired to decorate their collection of 12 pairs of Crocs™ shoes in the basement of their Boulder, Colorado home. With clay and rhinestones, Schmelzer developed unique charms that fit into the holes of Crocs. Sheri’s husband, Rich, saw the potential to create a unique accessory brand with colorful snap-on products specifically suited for Crocs™ shoes.

Beginning with a home equity loan and small assembly line in their basement, the Schmelzers launched Jibbitz, whose name is derived from Sheri’s nickname “Flibberty-Jibbit.” The Schmelzers began work on a few designs to share with family and friends and launched a website on their wedding anniversary, August 9, 2005. Within 1-year, Jibbitz were offered in thousands of stores and had sold over 8 million pieces worldwide.

In December 2006, the Schmelzers realized the “American Dream” when Crocs, Inc. announced that it had acquired Jibbitz LLC. You can bitch and complain when you see someone wearing Crocs or roll your eyes (my friends have told me to take them off in thier home, brutal!) but they are here to stay.  I would like all Croc haters out there to try it out.

Challenge: Borrow a pair of Crocs from a friend or do yourself a favor a just buy a pair (they are only about $30). Wear them constantly for just one week. If you hate them because they are uncomfortable or because they hurt you then so be it (but you’d be a total liar). But if it’s just because of the way they look then take another week.  You’ll soon realize that you are not even wearing them and soon people around you will come to accept you as a Croc person.
