We sat down with them to learn a little more about what music means to them!<br /><br /><span style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">How long have you been playing together as a band?</span><br />We have been playing music together for about four years.<br /><br /><span style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">What do you love most about music?</span><br />Music is a channel by which a person can express emotions, feelings, and concepts too complex or profound for words alone. What's so endearing about music and the reason it has always thrived and will always survive is that it is a natural extension of human communication, adding dimensions to what a human being is able to convey beyond language. And it's simply fun, which says as much or more than any other reason.<br /><br /><br /><span style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">You're playing a show for CrisisLink on Sept. 9. Why do you support CrisisLink?</span><br />CrisisLink is a difficult cause NOT to support. It's beautiful in the sense that it stands for something with no political undertones- it's not something anyone can deny the importance and relevance of.<br /><br /><span style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">Is it important for teens and people your age to know about CrisisLink? Why?</span><br />Absolutely. The Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC), with a first-time contribution from CrisisLink, has just published a completely updated version of this most popular 80-page pocket guide. Almost 2,500 copies were distributed free of charge to area school systems.<br /><br />“I am pleased to announce publication of the 2010-2011 <em>Quick Guide</em>,” said Harry J. “Hal” Parrish II, Chairman of NVRC. “In the more than 25 years since the <em>Quick Guide</em> was first published, it has come to be relied on as a definitive source of critical information about human services for Northern Virginia residents. Russell and Norma Ramsey Foundation.  The campaign aims to raise $200,000 to expand its capacity for around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention, intervention, and response services for the Metropolitan Washington Area.<br /> <br /> "This generous gift will help us double our capacity to better serve those in our community who are facing crisis situations and contemplating suicide," said Linda Eatmon-Jones, executive director of CrisisLink.<br /> <br /> "We couldn't be more pleased to be a part of something so critically important to our community," said Russ and Norma Ramsey.  "For us, CrisisLink is a true labor of love; Studies show that about 20% of teenagers have a psychiatric illness with depression, anxiety and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder being among the most prevalent. Yet many are often blind-sided by a child's mental illness. Some are unaware that mental illnesses typically appear for the first time during adolescence. Or they may confuse the symptoms of an actual disorder with more normal teen moodiness or anxiety. <br /> <br />This year September 5-12th, 2010 is the National Suicide Prevention Week. We are holding a concert for local Northern Virginia high school students at <a href="http://www.jamminjava.com/home">Jammin' Java</a> in Vienna, Virginia on Thursday, September 9th from 6-9 P.M to raise awareness about suicide prevention. There will be local high school bands performing and speakers. Volunteers and staff will work the booth providing the public with the information and resources CrisisLink has to offer. The event is to be held August 7-8 at Pan Farm Park in Herndon, Virginia, and usually draws between 8,000 and 18,000 visitors over the weekend. There will be many exciting exhibits displayed by 4-H members and volunteers. There will also be a farm show, live music, animal exhibits, and fun games receiving metro-wide publicity and coverage from various local media outlets. CrisisLink will be featured with various non-profits throughout the Metro region in the 4-H Corridor at the fair. This is an area within the fair where exhibitors can present their information to the public. The 4-H corridor promotes good practices in all aspects of life related to the four H's. These are Head, Heart, Hands and Health. Come out to the fair for some family fun! The event is being held for the Stonegate Village Apartment residents to help celebrate all of their accomplishments. Reston Interfaith regularly collaborates with the 2-1-1 program, providing their residents with the resources to overcome the challenging problems they face on a day-to-day basis. The event is a large celebration with a Hollywood theme! Local celebrities and talent will join the party to entertain all of the residents. The Stonegate residents also will have the opportunity to show off their talent and win prizes! Games and activities for the children will be provided, including a moon bounce and face painting. While the main purpose of the event is to commemorate the residents living in the Stonegate apartments, Reston Interfaith will also use it to share community educational materials. Information tables will include the 2-1-1 VIRGINIA program, utility budget plans, financial educational services, kids fingerprinting/photo identification, bike safety, neighborhood watch and more!
