Analysis, Questions and Thoughts, Round 2

The MIB has been trapped for a very long time, so long that he has forgotten what it means to be free. Now that Jacob is dead, he is free to wreak havoc in the world, leaving the Island behind forever. He will allow those who choose his side to follow along, promising them unbelievable things. All those who don't, will die.
What was the original purpose for his entrapment? I have some rather vague ideas.
Remember back in last season's episode, "Dead Is Dead," when Ben fell through the tunnel floor into the Smoke monster's lair? The mural above smokey's grate was a picture of Anubis calling forth the smoke monster. Anubis was the guardian of the underworld and I believe he used the monster to "read" people's inner motives and intentions. I believe that MIB grew very weary of this particular job and perhaps he even innately has John Locke's own attitude of "Don't tell me what I can't do!" all on his own. Maybe that's one of the reasons he chose to impersonate John. John was easily manipulated and amenable to persuasion, but he was also the first of the castaways to break the circle of ash! In two previous instances in his life, he has encountered the ash. The first was as a child when he picked up the bottle of ash that Richard presented in his "Dalai Llama-esk" test, and the second was when he reached down to pick up some with his hands as he and Ben were traipsing through the jungle to Jacob's cabin.
After the conversation with Sayid, could the alt-universe be the result of MIB's promises to his followers? As we creep closer and closer to the end, it seems so. Who will win in the end? With each character-centric episode, as we find out what each of the candidates' hopes they hold closest to their hearts are, the alt-universe shows us a picture of what those hopes might manifest as in the real world. And of course, no universe is perfect as far as personal hopes are concerned.
In my opinion, MIB wants to destroy the Island and Jacob's group to make sure that the Island can never be found again, hence the creepy scene of the Island underwater. I also think the Lighthouse and the FDW are interconnected. The Lighthouse points to the time and the place and the FDW sends the Island to that particular time and place as it throws the person who turns it out into the world. I just have a feeling that the MIB knows how to manipulate the extraordinary artifacts on the Island to be able to sink it, destroying every living thing on the Island, while throwing himself off the Island, out into the world to wreak havoc with mankind in a whole new way. Perhaps he will even be able to send himself back to his original life when he was "just a man" to resume the life he left behind.
I have always felt that the Island is the major character of Lost. It is undoubtedly special. I guess the one, main "burning question" I will hope to have answered is this:

What is this place and what is it's purpose for existence?
And what about that really eerie ending with the lullaby? Wow, creeped me out!
Unfortunately I was spoiled last week on a few of the upcoming episodes, therefore, I will only be posting my analysis, thoughts and questions after every third episode rather than inadvertently spoiling others. I hope all of you will continue to speculate and discuss in depth each episode. I totally enjoy lurking and being able to contribute through this blog. I don't comment other places too much because of this unfortunate foreknowledge. Rest assured, this blog is spoiler-free! So until the next batch of episodes, take care and stay "LOST!" :)

Analysis, Questions & Thoughts So Far...S6

After the detonation of the bomb, it seems that time is "split" into dual timelines for the survivors of Oceanic 815. In the first timeline, we see the plane landing in LA as scheduled and events happening as though the crash never happened. In the second timeline, the survivors are still on the island, but thrown together again in 2007 preparing for the great battle to come between light and dark.
Timeline #1:
The focus begins on Jack, as if he is waking from a dream. He seems disoriented, as though he's not sure how he got there on flight 815. He vaguely recalls Desmond and asks, "Do I know you?" to which Desmond replies, "No, I don't think so." Jack shrugs it off as he becomes more focused. He gazes out the window and our focus is directed downward, hurtling toward the ocean and underwater we see the island, the barracks and all that we knew...Perhaps the detonation caused the island to sink, killing everyone. Maybe this is what Eloise Hawking was referring to when she was asked by Ben "What if I can't get them all to come back?" and she replied, "Then, God help us all!"
Jack is summoned to the back of the plane to help with another passenger, Charlie, who seems to be choking on something and won't respond and come out of the bathroom. Jack saves him by dislodging a bag of heroin from his throat. Charlie tells him, "You shouldn't have done that, I was supposed to die!" When Jack goes back to his seat, Desmond has disappeared. Could this be a course-correction? Maybe saving Charlie has thrown Desmond out of this timeline and back into the other? This Desmond-Charlie connection still seems to be in effect in this timeline also. What exactly happened to him? Hopefully, we'll find out!
Other changes include Hurley, now "the luckiest guy alive" and John, who seems to be able to lie to Boone by telling a fantastic story of going walkabout, even though he is still wheelchair-bound. Did he actually get to go walkabout? I think perhaps John may have been trying to be "the hunter" and it gave him comfort. It was very nice to see John and Jack getting along so well after Jack discovered that his father's coffin was never loaded onto the plane and is now lost. After all, "they didn't lose your father, they just lost his body!" and in return, Jack tells John "nothing is irreversible!" Is this truly the way things were meant to be? Is it truly destiny that takes over when Jacob is out of the picture? The island is underwater, so does this mean that the island is forever lost in obscurity, a legend, under the ocean like the lost city of Atlantis?Kate manages to escape, once again, from Edward's grasp and encounters Claire. It seemed the natural thing to do for Kate to help Claire once again. It is likely that she will keep Aaron and raise him herself now rather than having to struggle with giving him up for adoption. Claire's doctor, formerly Ethan Rom, the crazy "other" is now the respected obstetrician, Ethan Goodspeed. Did any of these "others," or Dharma actually come to the island after all?
Timeline #2:
The survivors are still on the island, but have now converged in 2007. Juliet survives the bomb blast. She wants to tell Sawyer something important, but never gets the chance before dying in his arms. Miles reveals that she wanted to tell him that "it worked!" but Sawyer does not acknowledge that fact. None of the survivors in this timeline have a clue, yet. I got the feeling that there was something more, but Miles didn't divulge the information because perhaps it would have caused Sawyer more pain. I think he loved Juliet in a way that he could never have loved Kate and when she figures that out after following him from the temple, she grieves that loss.
Hurley's encounters with Jacob seem to change him in good ways. He is now a compassionate leader and I think he will play a pivotal role in the battle to come. On the other hand, Sayid's destiny is darkness according to Dogen, master of the temple.And this darkness also includes Jack's sister, Claire. Is this why she left Aaron all alone in the jungle? Is her father, Christian another manifestation of the Man In Black? Looking back, it seems possible. Was Jacob trapped behind that circle of ash in the cabin when the survivors first crashed, leaving the MIB to run rampant all over the island? If so, how did that happen? Jacob traveled the world, through centuries of time, drawing people to the island with a touch, trapping them there for eternity like some island "Hotel California." (You can come here any time you like, but you can never leave!) No wonder the MIB was resentful. Eternity is a long time to be stuck with someone. So many things to consider, so many questions answered and new ones posed...I just love Lost!

Tough Times Require Tough Measures!

I know this is a little off-topic, but I just had to give a shout-out to the world about a very special lady...my best friend...Joanie. For the past three weeks my family and I have been really struggling, just to live. This precious, wonderful, sister Christian put aside all of the many worries and cares in her own life this week to help me and my family and I am just overwhelmed...thank you God, for putting people like her and her family in my life! There is no one on earth like a child of the Living God!!!
