I just saw the cuteness overload at the HoleBrain website!

First, it’s about the cute website design. It has the nice cute character on logo and background, with soft pastel colors everywhere in their online store. Second, it’s their cute t-shirts! All of HoleBrain tees are inspired by very cute and happy looking characters designed in fresh drawing style combined with minimal colors to simplify the whole look of the t-shirt. Will, the owner of HoleBrain, has designed and printed all the t-shirts himself. That’s why the tee shirt got a reasonable price at such premium design and t-shirt quality. Interesting!

I like cute illustrations, and Snug t-shirt about a Polar Bear and a Seal has successfully steal my heart! Will’s clean & simple designs definitely works for me! Another great t-shirt by MonsterThreads is Ace. It’s like putting the Ace card in a t-shirt, only, using the more contemporary illustration style. The result is a very sophisticated and unique t-shirt to wear!

My favorite from all of MonsterThreads t-shirts is Hanging Thing. Basically a different point of view of designing a tee. The illustration is actually drawn to ‘hang’ around the t-shirt neck line. That’s awesome!

What happen with those people? Animal testing has never really worked! A recent shows that about 90 percent of medications which has been approved for human use (after previously tested on animal) later proved to be ineffective or harmful to humans in clinical trials.

Drawing is a lovely activity. When the best visual artists from around the world come to work together for a huge collaboration to create clothing designs, they’re trying to change the way you see a T-shirt — from just a graphic-tee that makes you look better to wearable pieces of art with a story behind it. This is when Hizoku self-proclaims its stand as a physical representation of the creative human spirit.

For me, every design printed on Hizoku tee is like a snapshot long series of fictional stories. It’s that time again where we scour the t-shirt blogosphere for the articles that we think deserve a second look. Hopefully for some of you, it will be the first time you have seen them. For the ones you have seen before, take another look….there’s inspiration in these posts:

Saw another extremely-shredded tee by Obesity and Speed, a NY-based fashion label which specialized in cutting-edge, urban-inspired streetwear for women. Obesity and Speed’s shreddy tee featuring a slightly sheer fabric with shredded part on the back, makes it an overly sexy-but-somewhat-messy street dress made for only highly confident ladies. Producing this tee need a special attention indeed; because the tailors would have to torn the garment one line at a time — maybe that’s how Obesity and Speed should justify the price (fyi, it’s no less than $143 at Revolve Clothing!)


Now we’re talking about shredded T-shirts, I want to ask have you ladies caught on to this trend? I find it insanely cool to see a girl wearing it — like it or not, it’s really hard not to stare at her. But does anyone else love this style? A friend of mine told me that it seems like shredded tee are ridiculously fragile, and even on the excellent lighting of professionally-taken photos, they look like something chewed on them. But one advice I heard, regarding fragility of this kind of tee, they’re totally safe and strong even to wash them in the washing machine if we put them in a washing net. What’s your take then?

I like Mandacarú tees for its smart, fresh and unique designs. Flux Collection’s WE T-shirt is an adaption of artwork by Carrie Schneider entitled WE which was exhibited from Oct 17 – Dec 6, 2008 at Monique Meloche Gallery in Chicago, IL. Self-portraitist Carrie Schneider was posing in zebra-skinned (black-and-white, high-contrast patterns) costume as human figure, a profile which represented the exploitation of camouflage art using a ghilie suit — blending with the nature. There’s new tee shirt brand I want you to check out. They it was a piece of cake to add a collar and dickie bow, but that would probably have been too much awesomeness on one t-shirt for any mortal man or woman to wear. Supported by Gatrac Sales in Tokyo and Pacific Marketing Works, masked artist Rockin’ Jelly Bean (RJB) started Erosty Pop in 1998. The clothing label that is based in Los Angeles, is used as vehicle for RJB to extent its lowbrow art scene through wearable merchandise as medium.

Not to mention that sex sells, but it’s been RJB specialist since its first public appearance in 1997; in which he famous as both talented graphic artist and mysterious character with custom-made Mexican wrestling mask. The name “erosty” itself suggest that RJB artworks are deeply inspired by what it’s called “an alternate reality of mesmerizing little girls” and fantasy of sexploitation. That not all though. Erosty Pop collection also includes tees featuring designs of quirky, Frankenstein-like monster character called phantom.

The Lost Angels-based streewear brand, Dissizit, has just dropped its latest arrivals — featuring signature hand-styles, bold graphics and photograph that push sensuality to its limit. If you’re Dissizit fan, you know this something that Dissizit always offer. Among those eye catching tee, my attention was drawn to Lolita Tee shirt ($32).

It’s based a novel by Vladimir Nabokov entitle “Lolita” first written in English and published in 1955 in Paris. Plot summary, you can find on Wikipedia, tells a little bit about about obessession of guy named Humbert toward what he refers to as “nymphets” (a 9 to 14-year-old girls to whom he is attracted) namely Lolita.

Humbert, now widowed, picks Lolita up from camp, pretending that Charlotte is ill and in a hospital. He takes Lolita to a hotel, where he meets a strange man (later revealed to be Clare Quilty), who seems to know who he is. Humbert attempts to use sleeping pills on Lolita so that he may molest her without her knowledge, but they have little effect on her. Instead, she consciously seduces Humbert the next morning. He discovers that he is not her first lover, as she had sex with a boy at summer camp. Humbert reveals to Lolita that Charlotte is actually dead; Lolita has no choice but to accept her stepfather into her life on his terms.

That’s a calling! Well, I know that can’t be a case for every one. A senior of mine confessed that she sold her soul to the devil (back when his self-worth was defined by a paycheck) when she worked for two big corporates at two different times — as financial staff working like almost 16 hours a day. Was it fun for her? Not really (not me saying so but that what was she told me, anyway). Did the job pay the bills? Yep. Corporate politics made everything even worse as she told some ugly stories. Was she miserable? Absolutely!

I can’t blame people who do it for money, while others look for fame — but I think we should go out of our passion… You will never feel like working, you will feel like you’re playing in workplace! Of course — the best thing is when you can get all of them in your hand: doing what you really love, while getting paid with that big fat paychecks and receive “right dose of fame” since you’re doing your job very well. A perfect world (that doesn’t exist for everyone), isn’t it?

The Vancouver, Canada-based clothing label, Hamburger Disco, took inspiration of its new concept from founders — Matt Linsangan, Jay Castro, and Rumell Payot — trip to Japan. While on vacation in Japan, Matt realized that North America didn’t celebrate hamburger couture as much as it should. You see, from capsule toys, CD Cases, stationary, pencils, to candy and beach balls… seemed like there were hamburgers on everything in Japan. After realizing that  North Americans – the founders of the hamburger – are not serious about representing it, they decided to start Hamburger Disco shortly after.

Hamburger Disco run to spread the love and to celebrates the world’s greatest food, the American-pride: hamburger. “Disco” is used as the ingredient to take this hamburger-thing a whole new level. Every design released then represents the Hamburger Disco aesthetic: The happy-go-lucky 50’s era fused with the non-stop disco party that was the 70s!

It’s been a while since I featured tee shirts from one of the most crowded ongoing tee shirt design competition on the internet, Design by Humans (DBH). I can talk about their new tees every week because of two things: one, these designs have been tightly selected by DBH competitive contest (almost comparable to Threadless to some extent); two, these designs are simply outstanding when it comes to experimental, cutting-edge graphic tee shirts! But I need to look for other tee labels too, giving too much attention to DBH might not be healthy for us

Geisha is about beautyness like sakura flowers … sadly, that doesn’t always mean happiness. Oddetti’s design follows a story of a geisha desperately waiting for her lover to come home from fighting in a war. Each tee color represents a different time of day as she patiently waits. Our little black kitty is lost. Word (we heard) is that a giant killer bird ate him. But we’re not sure yet. A number of people have seen a gigantic bird chasing down cats all over the planet. We started hanging out Have You Seen My Kitty posters on various spots where our kitty loves to go. Unfortunately no result. The world is holding its breath. More kitties are being reported lost as we speak. We decided to take action ourselves…

T-shirts inspired by lost cat? Well, I’m not surprised. There are indeed some people who already done that out of frustration — especially when posting posters on the streets, making announcement on local radio, checking on “lost & found” center and animal controls, calling police and FBI, investigate your neighbors and starting a blog for the lost cat don’t give a satisfying result.

Have u seen my kitty? is one of the tees (€34.90) by Academy for the Gifted (AFTG), rolled out under the latest Autumn/Winter 09 t-shirt collection. The tee is about hunting down that killer bird who abducted our kitty and to party and have fun whenever your hunting gear is left in the booth — and to make it serious, they even created the Birdhunter tee shirt (€34.90)!  The guys at AFTG had a guerilla campaign which let people contact them in order to give them hints and tips about the whereabouts of our kitty or bird.

I’m very happy to announce the new website (or rather blog) look of Cottonable. Not only a having a new look, Cottonable is now powered by popular blog platform Wordpress instead of Blogger (Blogger.com or blogspot)… It took me about a month — few hours every day — to install this new template (thanks to Kailoon for desiging this sexy template) and modified it; to customize functionality of the new template; and to migrate all the old contents to the new hosting and adapt it to the new platform (we have more than 1000 postings since I started blogging in 2006!).

It has been steep learning curve for me since I’ve never customize wordpress-powered blog, thanks to my friend (I call him lumut, pronounced loo-moot) who pushed me to try this little tiger. If you’re serious about blogging, you have to start with self-hosted platform (such as wordpress, not to be confused with Wordpress.com) instead of hosted solution like Blogger or Wordpress.com

There might be some bugs here and there and if you find any, please let me know. I also look forward to hear what do you think about the new blog. Thanks.

It is that time again where you trust us to bring you some of the top recent blog posts covering t-shirts. This week we covered quite a range of posts and topics. Hopefully you haven’t seen them already and you find a few you like.

I know it’s been pretty late to talk about St. Patrick’s Day tees; but if I could go back to few weeks before March 17th, I would make sure to visit Teesforall.com to check some St. Patricks Day T-shirts. Every year, I hunt for “green” T-shirt of the year by scouring all over the internet and visit some favorite places like Threadless, Busted Tees and some other officially-licensed tees seller like StylinOnline.com and 80stees.com.

Just few days ago a realized I miss one shop that I should visit before the St. Patrick’s Day which is Teesforall.com. The online store has a bunch of funny tees I have never seen before — especially from the Family Guy TV show like Beer Pong Champion, Peter Plus Beer Can and Lucky Dog Brian Tee Shirt. There are also some collectibles Guiness T-shirts and funny (rather offensive) St. Patrick’s Day slogan like those that say “Irish Rub Me For (F)Luck”, “Irish You Were Beer” and “Lucky Enough to be Irish”.

Now a little bit about TeesForall.com. As I find on their “about us” page, the New York based company has been in T-shirt business since 2003. They sells all over side-splittingly funny tees with expanding collection from beers-and-liquors tees, to political, humor, holidays and movies and music tees. You can even find some vintage kiss t-shirts as well as acdc t-shirts. Best of all, most (if not all) of their shirts are officially licensed. Nice!

Don’t Cross Us T-shirt pays homage to the tic-tac-toe game we played as kids — if Nintendo is not the only game you play as a kid. In the typical tic-tac-toe game if you get either 3 ‘Xs’ or 3 ‘Os’ you will draw a line across them and you win the game. Essentially, there isn’t a line drawn across the 3 Faze logos meaning if it can’t be crossed and it won the game.

In an explanation to me, the crew of Faze Apparel (a.k.a Fearless And Zealous Everyday) design of this tee is dedicated to all the doubters, skeptics, competitors, critics, etc. that attempt to ‘cross’ or slander them as a young company that is new to the highly competitive fashion industry.

Does it sounds like a “hey, look at me” attitude!? Agree, if it’s not a stand to challenge the establishment. Oh yeah, this design gives all those that I mentioned a stern fore-warning.

Here’s latest character that arrive at the Death before Dishonour (DBD) T-shirt collection: “Bastard Baboon”. The low down, dirty, cheatin’ rockabilly mandrill baboon takes no prisoners. And with his intimidating frown, greasy quiff and battlescars… He terrifies anyone in his path. Bastard Baboon is the brands mascot that DBD designer, Chris Manning, has always loved for its almost alien visual appeal and badboy outlaw demeanour.

London based clothing itself is a brand that pulls no punches. Taken from ancient Bushido code, the term “Death before Dishonour” serves as one of the main sources of inspiration for designer Chris Manning. This is a T-shirts collection that features one-of-a-kind, twisted and ironic martial arts inspired to unite eastern classic philosophies and the western design.

Procrastination… Here we go again. We have come to endless ways to kick the bad habit. And thanks to Facebook (oh yeah this website is currently on my #1 list), Twitter, MySpace, Internet Messenger, Wikipedia, YouTube, etc. it’s even harder get ourselves back on scheduled tasks.

Recent study shows that almost everyone occasionally procrastinates, but a worrisome 15 to 20 percent of adults routinely set aside activities that would be better accomplished right away — yes, believe it or not.

Now, that makes me think that most of us could major in the subject, if only it was worth credit or maybe — just like what this slogan Twitter-Threadless tee ($18) says — there’s another part in this galaxy where procrastination is a marketable skill in a workplace.

Here’s the lates update from one of the biggest yearly T-shirt compatition, The Design By Humans 10K. It has just come to a close, claiming csj89 and his design Mecha-Labaw as the big winner of the $10,000 prize… Hoorrayy!

Mecha-Labaw (odd name, huh?) was inspired by Carabao (or Kalabaw), a water buffalo often used by farmers in agricultural country, Philipines — an animal which has been long considered as a national symbol. Interesting story is not the only clue that help this design win the prize; it’s its intricate, vectored detail and huge print, collected the most votes of all the top four designs.

IBut csj89 wasn’t the only finalist to walk away with a big prize- 2nd place, 3rd place, 4th place, and 5th place were also printed, each earning their designers a print and a nice pay check.

Indeed, these designs are not to be missed: CollisionTheory claimed second place with Twilight Rain, a colorful riff on nature. Third place went to TangYauHoong and his design Journey to the City of No Horizon, which paints a picture of a a city cleft in two by a river made of sky. Gloopz’s SOS Strawberry Flavor (this one was my favorite out of all designs!) nabbed 4th with its unique mix of style and laid-back humor. And in fifth place was the distinctive Umibozu by thestray, a spooky seascape based on Japanese folklore. See them all only on Design by Humans!

Here it comes another fresh Kidrobot cloth based on character, Fat Kat, created by designer/illustrator Kronk – after the famous Gingerman and Tree Huggr Dunny. Actually, I’m not very sure if “Fat Kat” is the correct name since I cannot find info about this bandit-like character on Kidrobot’s website or elsewhere. Who knows? This T-shirt could be a preview of Kidrobot’s next toy designed by Kronk.

Yes, you’re the first who know this, congrats!

This Kronk dude has always been drawing with his unique style from unimaginable characters to one-of-a-kind creatures and weird things, make sure to check his MySpace profile. He got a bunch of different work, and Fat Kat is just another cool collectible to have — as a shirt? Why not? So far, I can only find this tee on Revolve Clothing ($50), go hunt!

Looking back to my teenage years… Still fresh on my mind this girl I like at school. She knew how I liked her so much. I wasn’t one hundred percent sure but I noticed she was flirting with me from the time I showed signed of liking her. For example, she played with a pen in her mouth while we were talking or twirled her ponytail between her fingers when she was chatting to me.

It confused me, why on earth a girl would flirt with a guy if she knows he likes her but she doesn’t like him at all? I thought she’s a good person… I can’t imagine her being so cruel. Of course, when you like someone — everything s/he does cannot go wrong.

But when I look Regal Clothing’s new tee (£17.50) saying ” Flirting Makes Me Happy”, it makes me realize that she could be a kind of person who like to flirt for no reason but to entertain herself. Oh, my!

Despite being described as character who can’t live with eye glasses, dresses ugly (if not unfashionably), wears pigtails and is shy and socially inept and either overweight or gangly, nerd girls can be sexy too.

It’s when they stop looking like dorks and start looking like innocent cheerleaders (Britney on Baby One More Time?), and get more attention for both sexiness and smarts as a result. These are group of ladies who are tech-savvy, sci-fi loving nerd looks more like a cheerleader than a mouse.

What they are doing is challenging the notion of what a geek should look like, one way is by intentionally sexing up their geek attractiveness, another by finding no disconnection between their geeky pursuits and more traditionally girly interests such as fashion trend, celeb gossips and make up.

From Tina Frey, Lisa Simpson, Velma of the Scooby Doo – I’m not talking about Sarah Palin but she got the look too — we come to a conclusion that the new nerd girls are smart and they’re hot. Alphanumeric’s T-shirt ($10 at Robust Flavor) kinda reminds me of that.

Stop gossiping about Michael Jackson’s dead body… instead let’s talk about MJ’s famous dance move that shook the music world in 1982. The then famed 14-minute music video from the album’s “Thriller” track inspired many to learn how to do the zombie dance. C’mon… Don’t be shy, tell me you were one of them!

Not a natural dancer, I realize the dance is too complicated and fairly difficult to master, but a little practice will help us master the moves. There are lots of tutorial videos out there to help you practice, what people need to do is avoid mental thinking that only pro-dancer could do this dance.

Better if you can find a group of friend to learn the dance together, after all, practice it alone must no be fun. Don’t tell anyone, it’s our secret: Everyone at Star Wars are big fan of Star “Trekkie” Trek Movies! I’m not talking about George Lucas and the crew, I’m talking about Luke, Hans, Darth Vader, and even the mighty Yoda! Too bad, you will never see them watching the movie during regular hours. Celebrating its upcoming two-year anniversary (I’d say congrats!), New York-based, 410 BC, label has spent longer on the new line than any other to date. Unlike the previous line, it wanted to do things a bit differently this time around by keeping its designs simpler as the brand growing and coming into a more sustainable design ethic. Indeed, 410 BC’s collection still fall not too far from “attention grabber graphic T-shirt” category. Not recommended for those who are introvert at heart.
