Granado Oasis Bar Soap Review

I was originally planning on doing a candle review but I used the last of this soap up today and so I want to make sure I review it while the scent it still fresh in my mind. This is the last of the gift set I bought on sale around the holidays. It's a Brazilian brand that has been around a long time. I think the brand is most known for their perfumes- I don't think I'll get my hands on those anytime soon but I do plan on eventually picking more of the soaps up.

I bought a set of three around the holidays on clearance. And then after I bought this one- I found another set on clearance that I also managed to snag. I already used up the other two in the set- first one I really loved and the second was not for me.

Mine came packaged in a cute metal ornament. I'll definitely be keeping and repurposing the packaging. This one had a cute little seahorse on it.

Other than that it comes wrapped in paper- which is easily recyclable.

The scent is nice. I would describe it as a floral/marine scent. It's unique but also reminds me another soap used a few years ago. It's been awhile since I have smelled that scent so I'm not sure if my memory is accurate but I would say it most reminds me of Bvlgari Au the Blanc soap. It's a very nice scent- it reminds me a soap you might use in a nicer hotel. I'm not good at describing scents- I just know I like it and enjoyed it very much. It also lingered on my skin. Also one thing- it's definitely a perfumed scent but not overly so.

As for everything else- lathered very well, softened my skin, and, rinsed clean. My skin did feel a teensy bit dry so I did make sure to use lotion afterwards.

Overall, it was a nice soap. I don't think it's a must try or something I would really go out of my way to buy again- but I did really enjoy using it everyday. I have one more soap from the brand in my collection and then I'll switch it up and try to get some different brands to review -but I can see myself buying/trying some of the other bars eventually.

Figured I would knock a quick music post out the way while I'm waiting.

I don't think I ever heard this song...I discovered it through listening to samples. I had Mariah Carey' Glitter album and she sampled this. That was back when you would listen to an album from the first to the last. I didn't realize she made a music video. I know this is a post about Tom Brown- but...I just have to post Miss Carey. Not my favorite song but I do love the end when she goes full voice.

And now the OG. That trumpet note in the beginning is so iconic to me. Love this song. So underrated. Trumpet never sounded so good.

Sausage and Egg Breakfast Quesadilla and Sweet Potato Puree with Maple Sage Bacon

One more post and then I'm done for the day. Finished up another two recipes so here we are. Time to post! This will be short and sweet.

Starting with a breakfast quesadilla. I didn't feel like turning into a quesadilla so I cooked it up as a burrito. I don't think I've ever made anything like this which is crazy because it was so good and mega easy! I just used lamb/beef sausage, cheddar, and eggs. You can scale the recipe up but I scaled it down to only make one. This would probably be good with a vegetable or two in it as well. I might make one for breakfast tomorrow and just use spinach instead of sausage since I ran out.

Next up, Sweet Potato Puree with Maple Bacon. This recipe came from my Vitamix cookbook. I don't see it posted online but it's basically mashed/blended sweet potato with spices and maple bacon. I used beef bacon and cooked it up, then let it cook in maple syrup once it got crispy. And added dried sage. The bacon was AMAZING! I have some slices of bacon that I want to cook up the same way it was that cook. To go with it I just baked up some chicken, made some potato salad and green beans. Dinner was served!

And that's all for this week. Hopefully I get the chance to bake up something sweet next week....feels like all I've been making is food/food.

All The Cleaning Things Part Five

It's Friday movie night..but since I fell off this week- figured it was time to knock out a post. Most of it is done- I'm just adding the last little bit of stuff that I have been using to clean up. I like reviewing cleaning stuff althoughI'm sure it's not the most exciting post to read- but we all have to clean and may as well try things and find the best stuff for the job.

Ariel Universal Laundry Powder

I prefer powder detergent. I think they work better and bonus they come in cardboard packaging which means no plastic which is kinder to the environment. I think this works well. The tests is always the kitchen towels with no added oxi. And it worked pretty well all by itself. Works well on all other clothes too. Not too strongly scented- I don't notice the scent sticking to my clothes much after they are dry.

7th Generation- I don't love this brand. There was a time my Mom kept the All Purpose Cleaner in house. I hated it because it didn't work well...and it also doesn't smell that great. This is supposed to be biodegradable, better for the earth...plant based. All the dazzle dazzle...but I find it to be watered down and not that effective on grease. I also don't really notice the scent much. The scent I have is the Clementine Zest and Lemongrass. It's so lightly scented you barely notice it. I will probably try the rest of the scents and update here as I go but mostly I'm not very impressed.

Recently I bought the Lavender Mint one- still dismal dishwashing results but it smells so good it made me make my own rollerball with the same mix of oils.

The only problem I noticed- it is rough on my hands/nails. I started having issues with my nails breaking off and my skin becoming really dry and peeling.

Dawn Platinum Foam- Dawn Platinum is the best dish detergent. I also really like the spray. I'm not so sure about the foam. It is definitely concentrated and it does clean the dishes-grease. I just don't think I like this form. It constantly leaks and leaves soap on the counters and I just don't feel it's as versatile as the liquid or the spray. I don't think I would buy it again but it was cool to try.

Lysol Lime and Rust Toilet Cleaner

This stuff is sometimes sold out...I had a hard time picking it up. Or maybe it was just the timing of when I was going to the store. Anyway...I usually just use dish soap or whatever I have on hand but this is a good thing to have on hand to really clean the toilet. I feel like if you let it sit it just dissolves whatever and gets the toilet sparkling clean. Also, it doesn't smell horrible. It has a light mint/toothpaste smell. Only thing- read the directions before starting. You aren't supposed to close the bowl or let it sit longer than 10 minutes. I am definitely guilty of doing both those things. Whoops!

Plant Therapy Citrus Burst Multi-Surface Cleaner

The price on these have really increased I just noticed. When I bought it, the price was 8.99 for two. Which means about 4.50 per bottle of cleaner. Now you are paying about six which is kinda high for a refill product. I love that it minimizes plastic- you can easily recycle the glass so much better for the planet. It also smells really nice- like a really bright citrus cleaner that does not at all smell like a cleaner. Smells like something I would spray around to freshen up my home or diffuse. It works well but I don't think it gets things as clean as Method. And I do feel like things get dirtier quicker than if I used something else. I think I would just stick to DIY cleaners over this- but I wouldn't be opposed to trying the other scents. Also wanted to mention I can go through a bottle of this super quickly...maybe it's not concentrated enough?

Palmolive Ultra Strength Dish Liquid

Dawn is the best dish detergent- but Palmolive is second best. I think it smells much better than Dawn and is more gentle on my hands/nails. It's a classic. I have been trying all the different dish soaps- I find it's the most versatile cleaning thing you can buy. It can clean dishes or anything else. You can use it to make all purpose cleaners etc. I would buy this one again. I like it. Probably not as great as Dawn...but I like it.

Persil Universal Pods

I think Persil is one of the best detergents. I like these better than the Arial. I think they make clothes fresher and remove more stains. I don't think Pods are the most versatile (can't adjust the amount you use per load). and not sure of the little container really dissolves and it earth friendly. I tried to research it but just ended up even more confused. I do like these though ..and would pick them up again. Probably in the economical size because the smaller the package you get the more expensive these are per pod.

Clorox Scentiva Lavender and Jasmine Toilet Bowl Cleaner

This is probably the best smelling toilet bowl cleaner you can buy. It's like a spa day for the toilet. Bonus- it actually works too. I had another toilet bowl cleaner that was supposed to be Jasmin and it smells ok but did not clean anything. Clorox tends to be a pretty good brand though. Would definitely pick this up again. There are a few other scents/brands I want to try before I do that though.

Carmex Comfort Care in Watermelon Blast Review

I've been on a quest- to use all my old gaming consoles---with new to me "old" games. Mainly workout games. I'm trying to get back into regulairly working out. Usually once the weather warms up, I find motivation. Which I have definitely found. I'm trying to keep it interesting with new "games" though. Some of them have been duds- but for me variety is the spice of life or the key to keeping active.

In the meantime, let's talk lip balm. Completely unrelated.

Carmex claims:

I thought I had tried something from Carmex years ago. But maybe not. Carmex is an old school brand- it has been around for decades. Originating from Wisconsin in 1937. I think everyone has tried it at some point...I think I have tried it too. Either this or the Blistex that comes in the a tub. I get them confused.

Back in the day, I knew someone who was a superfan of this chapstick-it was funny because I always thought they were saying Carmax instead of Carmex 😂. They had the countries of accents.

I can be very picky about my lip balms. I prefer mainly a naturally derived brand. I find the ones with all kinds of junk in them really don't work and dry out the lips/make you dependent on them.

I like this lip balm. I think it works really well and after it wears off, my lips don't feel dry and like i need to immediately reapply. It came in a two pack- which is much appreciated. I need to switch this one out with my current lip balm (got it free!) - because that one is horrible. I will apply it in the AM and have dry lips ALL day. This is miles better than that one.

But yep- this one is nice. It doesn't remind me of any watermelon scent I have ever smelled. It smells very similar to pink starbursts (my favorite color). I used to pick through Starbursts so I could get the pink ones. The pink starburst is strawberry flavored.

From what I can tell it also comes in some other flavors- Sugar Plum, Peppermint, and Mixed Berry so they have something for everyone if this scent isn't your jam.

The ingredients are pretty great. I'm glad more mainstream brands are making more natural lip balms. I also appreciate the beeswax. Beeswax are the best lip balms!

Knossos Olive Oil Soap with Donkey Milk and Pomegranate Peel Review

I bought this on my trip to Greece last year. Everywhere I go I always try to snag a bar of soap. I've used all the "milk" soaps. Goat Milk, Camel Milk, Buffalo Milk. This is the first Donkey Milk soap I came across so of course I had to snag it.

Knossos claims:

Olive oil soap with Donkey Milk, Pomegranate Peel & fragrance, made 100% by olive oil (no mixture with other kinds of oils). It doesn’t contain color substances or chemical preservatives.

Suitable for Face & Body.

I can't think of this soap without thinking of Donkey from Shrek. I even have to say it with my Shrek accent. Who know Donkey's produce enough milk that you can use it for soap?

From the website it looks like this is meant to be sold in bulk for gift shops etc. Which is whereI got mine. Originally intended as a body soap but I found the scent to be lacking so I used it as a facial soap. The scent is just regular old soap. For some reason I thought it was supposed to be scented Pomegranate. But the pomegranate is just there to provide a little exfoliation. I think.

Otherwise it's a nice soap. Gets my face squeaky clean. It's also slightly drying...so in the winter following up with moisturizer was necessary.

I think my skin has felt smoother and a little brighter since using it. From what I have read Donkey Milk is supposed to be amazing for the skin. It has all kinds of essential vitamins and proteins that benefit the skin. It's anti-inflammatory and supposed to be good for all kinds of skin issues.

Ingredients:

Sodium Olivate, Aqua, Parfum, Donkey Milk, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Peel Powder, Sodium Chloride, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool.

Overall, it's a solid soap. I think for me it would be interchangeable with any other milk soap but it's nice to try something different. Also something simple that just works.

Chicken and Apple Salad Sandwiches, Brown Windsor Soup, and ChocolateTruffles

One more post before I go play some games to end my day. I need to make my next grocery list and figure out what I'm making for the coming week.

Starting with chicken salad. I don't think I have ever made chicken salad. Mostly I made tuna. I think it's time to switch it up. I predict a lot of chicken salad in my future this summer. It was so easy to make and the perfect light dinner option. Didn't even take long to make. I even really liked the addition of the cranberries and apples. I served mine on croissants like the original recipe did and also made split pea soup as a side to use up the rest on my cabinet.

Next up, Brown Windsor soup. We are back in the Unofficial Harry Potter book. And cooking up all the UK recipes I had never heard of. It's definitely too hot for soup..but this was pretty good. I think it would be the perfect fall/winter soup.It doesn't have the best reputation according to the Wikipedia page but I thought it was decent. Doesn't look amazing..but what can you do.

And last up- I made truffles. No picture because they just don't look good. I was really excited about this recipe- thought it would lead to me making all kinds of truffles. But these are underwhelming. Really it's way more satisfying to just EAT THE CHOCOLATE AS IS! So I probably won't be making anymore truffles. Here is the recipe if you wish to avoid it.

TLC. They have songs that really take me back to the exact time period I heard them. The 90's was full of amazing girl groups- there were so many great ones I wouldn't be able to pick just one. Nowadays...I can't think of one. Where did they all go? All we get are collabs.

But anyway TLC.

We'll start with Waterfalls. I loved that song. It came on ALL the time when it first came out. I never had any idea what the song meant at the time- it's a sleeper wisdom imparting type song if you really listen to the lyrics. The message went straight over my heard at the time..but this one is probably a song many people need to stop and listen to. Don't go chasing waterfalls.

Creep is a classic. I've heard this song a million and 12 times. This is the first time I realized he cheated first and she just cheated back 😂

I slept on the Red Light Special for years. This is the most Babyface sounding song. I knew he wrote it immediately- no need to even look it up. I love all Babyface penned songs- this is no exception.

The best song of 1999. No Scrubs. They played this every other song on the radio back then and I enjoyed it every time. It can't be overplayed for me. I know all the scrubs were mad that year. This and Bills, Bills, Bills (Destiny's Child) really taught me something.

And now- OG TLC. I love this music video. So 90's. This is one of those songs where it was a few years before I figured out what it was about 😂

And last (but not least) we have Baby, Baby, Baby. Another Babyface penned hit.

I'm really missing the 90's right about now. I'm about to go have me a 90's listening party.

Beekman 1802 Honeyed Grapefruit Goat Milk Soap Review

A couple weeks ago I was complaining that it was too cold- so not it's too hot. Candle season is definitely over. And I had to run and get a new air conditioner. Although I really wish I had central air. The heat is unbearable without central air. Anyway, that probably means more showers- so more soap reviews.

Beekman claims:

I've used a ton of grapefruit scented soaps/ shower gels. And with this weather it sure does sound like a very refreshing scent option. Except this wasn't as refreshing as I had hoped.

It's a nice scent. I guess. I don't really love it. More like I tolerate it but it isn't bad. It's not exactly what I imagine when I think of honeyed grapefruit. I was expecting a zest and punchy scent with honey notes. I don't know what to describe this as. But it smells like something I would love in a cleaning spray. I just didn't think it was all that special as a shower scent. It's pleasant. But probably forgettable.

My skin is soft though. And it seems to clean pretty well. Lather well. Rinses clean. Beekman makes pretty good soaps. It's just the scent can be hit or miss for me.

Overall, not for me. It's not bad...just nothing special. Usually this might be where I recommend something similar that's a little better but most grapefruit scented soaps/shower gels are just one of those things that is nice to try once and move on. None of them are really standing out to me. I think if you want a true grapefruit scent maybe the bar soap from Fresh or The Body Shops shower gel.

Marinated BBQ Artichokes and Lancashire Hot Pot

I feel like I've had an exhausting week in the kitchen...I haven't. But it sure feels that way.

Hopefully this is a super short post.

Starting with artichokes. I've had spinach and artichoke dip. But nothing else with artichoke. This particular recipe took forever and I could not figure out what the instructions were telling me to do because I'm just not familiar with artichoke. And the vids didn't help. It take forever to boil the chokes, then it takes more time to make the marinade and dressing. And I didn't even use the dressing. Because i figured the whole thing was a bit pointless. I think I threw away the heart- which is supposed to be the best part. And I really don't know what part of the leaves you are supposed to eat. So I quite after marinading it and at as is. The marinade was bomb though.And the dressing was good even though I really freestyle most of it. I didn't grill it- I just figured I would quit while I was ahead. So I ate it with marinade on it. Feels like I wasted a lot of time and energy for very little result. So I probably won't be making anymore artichoke anytime soon or in the next few years.

This was it...I just made rice and quick BBQ chicken to go with.

Then I grabbed my Unofficial Harry Potter book...I'm heavy into the hearty recipes. This is a Lancashire Hot Pot. Seemingly more well known than the previous Hot Pot I made. I almost used Chuck but decided to just go traditional and use lamb. I've made quite a few lamb dishes this year. This one was OK. I wanted the potatoes to be crispy but it won't be with the way the recipe was written. It wasn't bad. Very filling. I think there are better Lancashire Hot Pot recipes out there though...my favorite way to eat lamb is just seared chops. Wouldn't make it again---- but as always it was nice to try something new.

Doesn't look that great- but it is what it is!

Pretty unexciting week for me. Maybe next week will be a bit more exciting....

Project Pan #52

I've been sucked into the world of gaming. Again. The last couple of weeks I have been watching vids on all the different games/consoles. I watched people play a bit of games I grew up playing and felt all the nostalgia feels. I remember every time we would go over someone's house and they had kids, everyone would be in the room with the video games- I remember Street Fighter and Mortal Combat Games like it was yesterday. Also remember all the Mario games and especially the Donkey Kong games that I don't remember playing- maybe I watched my brother playing. Anyway, I've really been having a grand old time and I really feeling the urge to become a retro gamer and collect old consoles/games. Even though most games I would rather just watch. Except tonight. I am going to play some of my games for a few hours.

But...let's get back to project pan. Which I've pretty much abandoned. I think I didn't want to do a post until I finished my face powder- but that thing just keeps living on. Even though it looks like such a small amount left in the pan- I feel like it multiplies or something.

I finished 525 Market. I don't know if I took a picture of the pan. I don't see one so I guess not. This was wasy to pan...and I really do need to pick out another color to replace it.

I'll have to pick out the next shade to pan...although I haven't been panning any shadow lately. Wasted time. I'm gonna jump back into it though because I do want to finish a few more shadows. I'll probably choose a color by the next update.

Still working on using up my Laura Mercier Powder. I feel like I am getting so close and it refuses to use up. Although it's a nice powder, I'm a bit over it. I've been using it for years and just ready to reach for something new.

And now the couple of things I added last time...

Bioderma Micellar Water- So close to being done with it. I really only have a tiny bit left. Should be gone by next update.

Eden's Garden Goodnight Essential Oil- I finally used up a roller ball of this. Just made another one. I rarely use it though...I'm gonna try and use a ton tonight though. I feel it works better when I use a ton.

And lastly- ORS Color Blast in Dragon Fruit. Haven't touched it. But I have a long weekend and I am definitely going to grab it this weekend! I want some colorful hair!

And that's all. A bit of a boring update. But an update nonetheless. I won't do my next update until I've used up something whether it be the powder or the Bioderma. If I pick a shade later...I'll come back and add it in.

Granado Jardim Real Bar Soap Review

Take me to Brazil. I probably won't be getting to Brazil anytime in the next couple of years- so I guess trying their soaps is the next best thing? I bought this on sale a couple of months ago in a three pack. So this makes the 2nd one of the pack. I also bought another gift set that has two soaps in it...I just want to test them all.

First up, let's talk packaging. I don't think this is the normal packaging but it comes in a cute tin ornament that I will definitely be keeping to reuse for something. Not sure what. This one has a cute little fish on it. Then it comes wrapped pretty nicely. I like it. And bonus the packaging is super earth friendly.

The soap itself is nice. Looks like high end soap. Has the name embossed in it.

It lathers well, rinses clean, doesn't dry my skin. In fact, my skin feels pretty soft.

But the scent. Not a fan.

It had potential. It has some lovely floral notes, I can't pick them out but they aer definitely the scent of flowers. But not the same old, same old flowers. The floral notes in this are different. According to the scent notes it's supposed to be orange blossom, mandarin, and bergamot. I can definitely tell that there is citrus but I wouldn't have picked those. The floral notes are lovely and unique. But there is something off about it. It's a very loud floral. Not headache inducing but it has some punch to it. And for some reason the scent reminds me of port-a-potties. I'm not sure what notes is giving that association...and I tried to get past it...or overlook it. Or get used to it. But I really didn't enjoy whatever note that was.

I did really like the first soap I tried from the brand..and I'm still excited to try more. But this one did not do it for me.

Got an oldie to review today. Although most of the older perfumes aren't my thing, I do enjoy trying them out. Youth Dew is an oriental perfume that launched in 1953. So it has definitely been around. I had never heard of it...but it does feel familiar. I think mainly because a lot the oldies really start to smell similar after awhile.

It has all of the notes that I like- it has bergamot, spice, Vanilla, Patchouli, Amber. I think those are the notes that I pick up and really like...but there's also something to it that I really don't like. It has a similar scent to Tabu, Hermes Caleche, and Guerlain Shalimar. But there's something there that I don't like- especially when wearing it. Maybe it's a floral note of something? I'm not sure but it just makes it smell like an older perfume and I can't help but think it definitely smells like something that was popular a few decades ago. It also kinda reminds me of this old Tinkerbell perfume I picked up in the mid 90's from JC Penny. That was my first perfume and the scent of that is burned into my brain.

I think of all the old perfumes I have tried that have a similar DNA to this Guerlain Shalimar is my favorite.- it doesn't smell quite as "old". So of all the oldies with a similar DNA- Shalimar is my favorite.

One interesting note I kept reading about is a Coca Cola note. If I'm thinking about it, I get it. But it's not the first thing that cross my mind and not something I really pick up when I smell it.

It is a very heavy, intoxicating scent. I don't think this is one for everyone (not one I can wear). It can also be a little headache inducing if I wear it.

I mostly smell that odd note when I tried to wear it. I have found the best way for me to enjoy is as a room spray. I get more of the powderiness to it that I love but none of the old floral notes. So that's probably how I'll use up the rest of the bottle.

Speaking of the bottle- I love it! I think there are two different bottles. I saw the glass one in store and was going to get it until I saw this. I have never seen a bottle quite like this. I think it's Tiffany Blue? It look s vintage and I love that! Keeping the bottle forever...

One thing I usually like to do when I try out an old fragrance is look up celebs that supposedly wore it. According to the Googles- Madonna, Joan Crawford (This seems like a JC scent!), Gloria Swanson, and Janet Leigh

Overall, I'm glad I gave it a try- but it isn't for me. It's not something I would ever wear out the house...but it does suit as a room spray and I'm happy to add the bottle to my collection. I also added the lotion to my collection when I thought it would be a hassle to get my hands on the perfume- review of that should be coming in the next few months.

Tina Turner

One more post for the day. Today we talk Tina Turner. I remember being so excited to listen to her discography- but then I found out that her music is just really not my cup of tea. At least most of her solo stuff. I think I liked more of her music under the Ike and Tina band.

So I only have one song to share today. And of course it's What's Love Got To Do With It. Not my favorite look of hers but it's ICONIC. I'm so tempted to go do my hair like that for fun....

And of course- gotta have the live version..

I really should have a movie night and go watch What's Love Got To Do With It. I have never seen it somehow- but I know it's a classic.

Fennel and Apple Salad, Greek Chicken Wraps, and Blueberries and Cream Pie

Yet another food post- I haven't been blogging. But I have been cooking. Usually after fighting through some extreme laziness. For the next couple weeks I think I have just going to cook one thing a day on my cooking days. I had just been doing too much and I'm going through a kinda burn out.

Anyway...here is what I made this week...

Fennel "Salad"

I don't know what the name for this was. And I'm too lazy to grab the cookbook. I almost skipped this recipe because it seemed like it was doing too much. I'm glad I didn't skip it though. I have never used fennel or radishes in anything I've made...so it was nice to come across a recipe that uses them. It is a vitamix recipe and supposedly the vitamix is supposed to shred the veggies. And it didn't. So once I saw that it was blending it, I went with it and basically made a fennel, radish, apricot, apple smoothie. Or basically a puree. It didn't taste bad. Kinda like apple sauce with fennel. I think this would made an amazing juice..if I had a juicer.. It wasn't bad. Just not what I had intended.

Also---I bought the apricots for this...and they were terrible. I have never had a good, fresh apricot. Do they exist?

Next up- Greek Chicken Wraps...

..that I turned into flatbread. I wanted to make my own wraps but was too lazy to roll them out and cook them so I just spread it out like a pizza dough and applied all the toppings. This was really good! I made a small batch of hummus too since I had cooked chickpeas earlier in the week. This is like the perfect summer/sunny day dinner. So fresh!

Last up--- blueberries n cream pie. I ended up making a small one because I had a small pie crust I wanted to use up from the freezer. I would definitely make a larger one next time- I think it would bake up better. I think I might bake one when I go to the states that way I can share it with my family. Also..they have a fresh blueberries growing in the backyard that would be perfect for this. I ate this one with vanilla ice cream...perfect pairing!

Maison Louis Marie No.4 Bois de Balincourt Soy Candle

I took a much longer break from the blog than intended. But I think I'm back now. I have a few posts I need to knock out. Starting with this candle. I thought candle season was sure to be almost over but we are back in a cold spell. I had to turn my heat back on the other day...for Mid May that's really crazy. So I'm still lighting up my candles. And also ordered two more just in case the cool weather continues. I like having my candles going to make the atmosphere feel a bit more cozy.

Maison Louis Marie claims:

Timeless. Endlessly wearable. Deeply personal.

A warm woody scent with sandalwood, vetiver, and amber wood. Creamy, earthy, and quietly addictive.

This candle is a dupe for La Labo Santal 26 candle. Which is a candle I have already burned through and reviewed. It's a very popular candle. Also a very pricey candle. Although it was nice- it isn't nice enough that I would want to drop that kind of money on it to have it again. I also don't think it's special enough to seek out dupes- but it definitely was pretty unique. It was more so a candle that was nice to experience once and then I wanted to move onto other scents.

But I did pick up this MLM candle. Mostly because I want to try all their scents and this was just next in the line up.

I think it smells extremely similar if not straight up the same based on memory. So what I get from it is a spiced sandalwood. I get a slight hint of cinnamon or something. I think the Le Labo had more vanilla to it. I don't really detect much vanilla.

Also...I thought the Le Labo was lightly scented. But this is lightly scented. It is not strong enough for the price. My living area is not that big...I can barely detect this while I am burning it. It needs hours and hours to build up. It just doesn't feel or perform for the price. It is much cheaper than the Le Labo...but it is still a pricey candle and I expected more for the price. I've tried a few candles from MLM and I find that they can be really hit or miss depending on the scent.

As always I like the packaging. It comes in a nice box and very clean, goes with anything type of packaging. I like that the brand name is printed on, etc. It's supposed to be soy- I think maybe a soy blend but they don't say. I find with this brand as long as I trim the wick etc the candle performs really well with no sooting/smoking etc.

It comes in a few different forms, I have tried and reviewed the perfume oil, It also comes in a perfume, and diffuser. It even comes in a deodorant. So if it is something you enjoy, you can buy it in other forms.

As for me, it's not for me. I'll still pick up their other candles to review...but I think I might be done with this iteration of the scent.

Irish Lamb Stew, Cookies N Cream Cake, and Roasted Celery Root and Pear Puree

I've been busy in the kitchen again and I'm feeling a much needed break will be coming on. Or at least I'm taking a break for today. I made all the things in the title- along with cinnamon rolls yesterday because I didn't want the icing ingredients to go to waste.

So...here we go. Starting with Lamb Stew. I had my doubts about this recipe..just seemed too simple. And I was right. I'm not into it. I so badly wanted to add carrots and all kinds of things but I resisted because I really wanted to find out it if it would be good on its own. It was edible- but I wouldn't make this again. This is from the Unofficial Harry Potter cookbook which I am cooking right through. I'm not about 65% through the book. Only 35% more to cook through!

Looks very meh....

Next up- a cookies n cream cake. I was craving one for a little while now. It came out OK. I think if I were to make this again I would use a chocolate cake base with a deeper chocolate flavor. I just used the Hershey's Chocolate cake recipe and freestyled the icing. I used a mix of butter, cream cheese, and mascarpone with crushed Oreos. I wish I took a picture of the inside. This was actually the second attempt. The first time I baked the cake I baked it for about two hours because I went to watch TV and complete forgot I was baking a cake. 😂😂😂 Whoops. The remake was a lot better though.

And last up- Celery Root and Pear Puree. I thought this was the last puree in the Vitamix book but looking ahead- there are more. I almost skipped this recipe thinking Celery Root would be hard to find. But---apparently not. To my knowledge I have never had celery root. Had no idea celery even has roots. But I'm always down to branch out and try new vegetables. So I very loosely followed the recipe...and I really like it. It has an edge to it. Very flavorful- kinda spicy. Complex. And the added pear (I used canned) gave it enough sweetness. I still am not really 100% sure what to do with puree. I feel like they go best with fancy food- you know where they place a smidge on the plate and then small portions of whatever food. I just served with Salmon and Rice. It was surprisingly good.

Beekman 1802 Pistachio and Dark Cherry Goat Milk Soap Review

There aren't enough Pistachio scented things- I wish there were more candles, soaps, lotions etc in a Pistachio scent. Although I don't know if the scent can really be captured....but for some reason it appeals to me anyway. Which is pretty much why I bought this scent- this one was the most intriguing to me of all the soaps in the Beekman lineup.

I haven't had much luck with the Beekman soaps I've tried so far. Of the ones I have tried the only other one I have liked was the Orange Blossom Honey. I think this is the 2nd best of the ones I have tried so far.

I watched the infomercial on this scent and they did mention Tom Ford Lost Cherry scent being the inspiration. I haven't smelled that scent so I don't know. This doesn't really smell particularly like any cherry or almond scents I know of. Sometimes it smells a bit like Hall's Cherry cough drops. And a bit like a Cherry Almond scent.With a light fruitiness to it. It's not a bad scent at all, enjoyable. But if they discontinued it tomorrow I don't think I would care much. It's one of those scents that was nice to try once, I will enjoy the bar until it's gone and then move onto something else.

The bar lasted quite awhile too...I got mine in the large 9 oz size. Which will last quite awhile. Probably would have lasted me a lot longer but I tend to use excessive amounts of soap. I love a lathery, bubbly shower with as many suds as I can get.

And it does lather pretty well, rinses clean, and doesn't dry my skin much. My skin is definitely soft and I do think the goat milk makes a difference to that.

Ingredients:

Sodium Palmate, Sodium Cocoate and/or Sodium Palm Kernelate, Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Parfum, Sodium Chloride, Caprae Lac (Goat Milk), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Aleurites Moluccana Seed Extract (Kukui Nut Oil), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Pentasodium Pentetate... and Kindness.

Overall, it's one of the better scents from the brand.

The other day I stumbled upon an AI movie...have you seen one of those? They are so weird, I was so horrified I almost could not look away. I didn't end up finishing the movie- my curiosity was satisfied. But it is really unsettling how AI is getting into everything. I went from never having a mascara primer to wanting to always keep one on hand. I like to try different mascaras. It's very rare that I will repurchase because I want to try them all. Every now and then I happen upon a complete dud and I hate wasting so even if I hate it I will still try to use it up. Instead of having sad lashes for however long that tube lasts I have started using with a primer so boost up the effects of the dud mascara.

I bought this for a bargain off Amazon. I think it was $10.00. The only thing was it was backordered so I had to wait quite a long time to get it. Worth the wait though. Kinda wish I had ordered a few more.

It goes on really well and because it's white, you can really see exactly the difference when you apply. This really feels like a mascara that applies lengthening fibers on your lashes. The length is out of this world. I've never seen my lashes get so long with any other mascara. The volume is decent.

I like to let it dry then sometimes throw on another coat before adding whatever mascara I am using.

The only problem I have is that I lose some of the length after I apply mascara on top. They just don't stay looking as long as they were with initial application.

Also as it dries the white color tends to dry down too...so give it enough time and you might not even have to apply black on top.

I can definitely see myself purchasing again- especially if I find a good deal. I have the Clinique primer as a backup and I think after I finish that it will be back to the Lancome one for me.

I ordered this not realizing it was meant for little kids. I just saw a bathing sponge and that it was made of konajc and into the cart it went. But now since I have it- may as well go ahead and use it...

Usually I stick with cotton washcloths. It's the eco friendly choice but once upon a time I was really into the plastic loofahs.

You know the ones:

I don't use those anymore because I try to eliminate using plastic where I can. So I haven't used one of those for years. These days there are so many alternatives- no need to use those. My go to will always be washcloths but the kojac sponges have me curious. I know they were trending a few years back.

Mostly I see them for the face. So I saw this- didn't read the description and bought it. I don't know how they turn the plant into a bathing sponge- but I do love that it's plastic free and biodegradable. So it won't sit in a landfill forever more.

As a sponge it's pretty nice. Gets nice and sudsy- it can help stretch a bar of soap as you can use less to cover more. And it feels like bathing with a little cloud. The texture is so interesting. It is a little small- to be expected since it's for bathing babies/kids. But I can work with it.

I like the really cute star shape.

It's supposed to last 3-4 months. I'm not sure it will last that long, I've been using it almost a month and I can definitely tell it has some wear and tear. Nothing too bad. I can't see it lasting more than 2 months- but maybe.

Overall, I'm into it. Maybe I'll buy another one sometime down the line- it's not the most cost effective- at least compared to a washcloth. But if you already replace plastic loofah's this is definitely a more eco friendly alternative to those.

I'm glad I branched out a little bit.

BBQ Chicken Sandwiches and Ginger Beet Puree

It's too soon for this type of post....butI'm ready to post it anyway so up it goes.

I'll start with the beet puree because it's out of my comfort zone when cooking. Because what do you do with a puree? In the book they have served with some roasted Brussels sprouts but I feel like I have eaten more than my share of sprouts this year. So I just made some cabbage and lamb. It wasn't bad. I just still feel it's outside of what I am comfortable cooking. It wa good though...if you like beets and ginger you would like this. It reminds me of the beet juice my Mom seems to love making. I've also had more than my fair share of beet juice. Anyway...fun to try something new. I probably wouldn't make again because I'm just not that into purees. There is one more in the book that I am going to try and hopefully I don't have to make them anymore.

Rice, beet puree with fried cabbage, and some lamb

And last up- BBQ chicken sandwiches. I didn't read the recipe so I kinda just did whatever. I thought they were supposed to be cooked in the crockpot so that's what I did. Then when it was done I shredded it up. I made a batch of burger buns to go with it- last couple of times I just bought the buns but I was in the mood to bake bread I guess. The buns were my fave part. I don't think I love these type of sandwiches but it wasn't bad. Just not something I would make again. It probably would be better if I made it like the recipe. I did make the coleslaw to go with and also made some quick frozen veggies.

Maison Louis Marie No. 5 Kandilli Candle Review

Almost out of candle season but not quite there yet. We have been having some breezy Spring days..not that I'm complaining. It's my favorite weather for sure. Anyway...while it's still ok to burn candle- figured I had better start burning through the lat of my candles.

Maison claims:

Kandilli is inspired by a village on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus, where my mother first encountered the scent of tuberose at sixteen. This fragrance captures that sunlit memory with a lush tuberose accord layered over soft white lily. A base of warm amber and sandalwood brings depth and sensuality, grounding the florals in gentle radiance. Nostalgic, luminous, and softly tropical.

I just noticed they hiked the prices of these candles up...so I'm definitely only picking them up when they have a sale. Also on my last check out I realized they had a reward program so I was able to cash some of that out and save some extra money. Saving while spending is the way.

I just realized I skipped ahead...I also have No.4 but I thought this was first for some reason.

This candle seems to be their powerhouse floral candle. Definitely on the stronger side and very floral. Not exactly unique- I feel like it's similar enough to some other floral candles I've tried, Mainly gardenia type candles like Harlem Candle Lady Day, Kendra Scott Mother of Pearl or any other white floral candle type. etc. It' not the same as those have gardenia (not the tuberose that's in this) - but similar enough that if you like those you would like this.

It's one I think I like most on a sunny day with the windows open.

It's on the stronger side. Maison candles tend to be on the lighter side. This one is not overly strong but I can smell it even as it sits unlit.

It is a mostly soy candle. And burns cleanly as long as you keep the wick trimmed. Usually they burn pretty evenly but I haven't been making sure it burns to the edges like I usually do so it's on that it looks a bit wonky. I can fix it with some foil later on though.

I like the packaging- comes in a nice giftable box and the candle design itself is very classic with the brand printed on the candle itself which always feel higher quality than a sticker.

Overall I have really been enjoying it. I don't know that it's one I would need to buy again because I seem to come across similar enough candles every couple of months...but might be something I keep in mind for gift giving.

Time to do a quick review....I don't think I've reviewed any lotions in awhile...although my "collection" seems ever expanding. I guess mostly because I just used lotion these days as needed instead of greasing down everywhere every single day.

I grew up using Baby Lotion long past my baby years. I think originally I used Baby Magic but at some point a switch was made. I am still kinda curious about Baby Magic and might end up picking up a bottle at some point when I finish all the lotions I have.

I wonder how the brand is doing since the Baby Powder Talc lawsuit? Have people lost trust in the brand, did their sales decline? Would you trust it to use on a baby?

Personally I don't think I would use it on a baby. Just looking at the ingredients- you can use something like Almond Oil or which is a lot simpler in ingredients and seems safer to me.

I basically picked this up for nostalgia.

The baby line has been around since 1893 (I had no idea) and has all kinda of things marketed for babies- shampoo, wipes, baby washes etc. The lotion itself has been around since 1942. I'm not sure what the original packaging was but I think the most recent packaging is a bit ugly... It was supposed to be recently updated and the most recent iteration uses more recycled plastic (good!) but I still think it looks ugly. Also I have been reading that they changed the formula with the newest packaging...I would hope not. But since I have the older bottle I can't comment on it.

It's gone through all kinds of packaging changes and also many different ads which I always love to see.

I love the scent of it. It just has the best scent and from what I can tell it hasn't changed at all. It's not strong and goes away shortly after applying it..but I do really like the scent as I'm applying. I really hope they did not change it...

As for the moisture- if your skin is dry this doesn't work. I feel like it's best for normal skin that doesn't need too much in terms of moisture. My skin does feel soft after though...but using it in Winter or Dry conditions I can apply and then a few hours later my skin is dry again. I prefer this in warmer weather.

As for the lotion itself- it's very much a glycerin based lotion. Reminds me of the Aveeno I used not too long ago. I prefer oil based lotions though so this is not my favorite formula. I wish I could find a 1940 bottle because I would love to know what the original ingredients are.

Overall...I still like it. I think it's the nostalgia factor for me though as opposed to it being a truly great moisturizer.

Irish Scones, Pease Pudding, Derby Savory Pudding, and Lobster Pizza

I know..it's way too soon for a food post but I have a lot to post. I guess I' have been busy in the kitchen.

So here is what I have been making...starting with scones. Irish scones. Scones are an original British or Irish. I have made scones before but only US style scones so I was excited to make a different version. These were pretty good....when I was baking them I was a little disappointed in how much they spread out but they tasted pretty good so I can't complain too much. I ended up just using raisins because that's what I have and where do you find dried currants anyway besides online?

Served with tea..of course. I'm currently drinking Republic of Tea Lemon Biscuit tea. I don't love it...but it smells just like a lemon creme sandwich cookie.

It was nice to set aside time for tea.

Then I made Pease Pudding and Derby Savory Pudding. It's not pudding but of course n the UK...everything is pudding. Basically the pease pudding it split pea soup. It was good, filling, cheap, and healthy. Made a good lunch to take to work. And the Derby Savory Pudding was a cross between stuffing and baked oatmeal. Not my thing but edible and filling. These were two recipes from the Unofficial Harry Potter book which I am about 65% done with.

And last up- I made a Lobster Pizza. I made my usually flat bread recipe but I think it's time to retire the flat bread recipe as pizza crust. It works in a pinch but it doesn't make the BEST pizza crust. I need to stop being lazy and go back to making actual pizza crust. That said- the pizza was good. I pulled out some pesto I froze awhile ago as the sauce, cooked the lobster in the oven and then tossed in butter, parsley, and garlic. Add cheese and bake. Nice way to spoil yourself. This is definitely the most expensive pizza I have made to date--- but you gotta treat yourself sometimes. Or all the time.

And that's all! Now I'm am so sleepy..I'm going to pick a good movie and relax.
