River shrimp cooking in Costa Rica

River shrimp (Camaron de rio) is very easy to cook but not so easy to catch unless you buy at the store ofcourse, just bowled the ship with out the heads in water with some garlic and onion and add some salt and there you have it.

The shrimp turn red when you boil it in water.

Don’t forget to eat the soup, its super delicious and goes really good with the river shrimp.

They don’t call it Conchal for nothing

A big chunk of the beach is not made of sand but actual chucks of shells.

This chunks of shells are not spiky since they have been tumbling for centuries.

Jicaro Tree in Costa Rica

This Jicaro tree has plenty of Jicaras which is where the Guacal is made of.

It looks like a tasty and big fruit but this thing does not taste very good.

Here is a Jicara that fell off the tree and crack on impact.

If you the the fruit dry you can make small bowls practical for anything from drinking water to eating soup or scooping anything.

The “Lowlands” of Guanacaste

If you get close enough to the Tempisque river you will find some lowlands that are usually flooded in the winter time but get somewhat dry to the summer, here are some shots of this so call lowlands.

Riding the Horse at the farm

Playa del Coco – Coco Beach, Costa Rica

On the way down to the Liberia airport you can spot the Coco beach, this very cam has a small town of and a quite a few fishing boats, its a very low key beach very nice for strolls at sunset.

View of Playa del Coco, and its small town along with all fishing boats “parked” by the shore, this beach belongs the Papagallo gulf which protect many beaches from big swells, which make it very convenient for parking fishing boats.

More of coco beach, on the left you can see some islands and on the right more gulf.

The little peninsula sticking out on the on the lower left corner apparently belongs a big AOL exec who was planning to build an eco friendly resort there, not sure what happened but there is no resort there yet.

Santa Rosa National Park (Aerial Photo)

If you take a plane to Costa Rica, you might see the Santa Rosa National park, its a pretty cool view, specially if you get luck there are very few clouds.

Here you can see the treacherous mountainous terrain along the coast line of the Northern Santa Rosa National Park

This view is also part of the Santa National Park, on the left, I believe is the famous Ollie’s point (surf break) which got the name because Oliver North used to have a little camp when he was doing some kind of shady business down there.

Costa Rica Turrialba Volcano eruption from space

NASA just published this photo of the volcano that just erupted in Costa Rica, this particular image is not in Google earth yet.

This image was acquired by the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) aboard NASA’s Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite.

Here some of the vegetation damaged from the volcano eruptions over the years.

Hot springs in Costa Rica

The more famous area of Costa Rica for hot springs is Arenal volcano, this active volcano has plenty of hot water to fee several hot spring resorts, we manage to get into a few resorts and try some of the hot springs around La Fortuna area, pretty cool area to check out when you need to take a break from the beach.

These pools are from one of the main resorts in the area.

Another look of the pools closer to the resort, it was a little rainy.

Travis Beckmann in Costa Rica

This guys manage to edit a cool video too, most have been a nice camera, and looks like Travis got some stuff stolen too, but according to him is all good because he still has the surfboards, this must be near or in Jaco beach, amazing waves, and not very many people around.

Here is a little section I like to call “when in Costa Rica” it’s like that saying that goes “when in Rome…” except this is for all you tourist who come to Costa Rica. It’s no secret Costa is a very awesome place to visit anytime of the year and its amazing and varied landscapes, terrains, mountains, beaches and microclimates means that it is very picturesque, so remember to bring a good camera with you one that can last all day on 1 or 2 batteries, like the DSLR Cannon 7D, and if you bring a DSLR make sure you know how to use it and bring plenty of lenses. It is highly recommended that you know how to take pictures either with a point-and-shoot or DSLR before you make it to Costa.

Nosara Surf Report #2 from the beach

This is my last surf report I did from Nosara, waves were pretty fun, I was so tired from surfing everyday that I decided to take a little break and shot a little surf report.
