FAB-Design Mercedes Mclaren

The SLR Desire is a creation of Swiss tuners FAB-Design, specialists in Mercedes-Benz customization. The SLR Desire is their first attempt at modifying the SLR and the vehicle was first unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

The FAB-Design Mercedes Mclaren SLR Desire features a very noticeable and polarizing body modification which is sure to have both the "love it" and "hate it" camps split into equal numbers. The styling seems to be partially inspired by the design of the original Mercedes-Benz 300 SL from the 1950s, and the two cars share the same distinctive horizontal wheel arch extensions.

The radical front end of the SLR Desire features enlarged intakes and a much deeper front bumper with an integrated lip spoiler, new vents have also been incorporated into the bumper just forward of the front wheels. Down the sides the new side sills are noticeably deeper and wider and help to connect the front and rear wheel arch extensions. At the rear of the SLR Desire a distinctive 'V' shaped design divides the larger diffuser into two separate side. This v-shaped styling is echoed in the upside-down v-shape of the rear spoiler mounting. The massive 20" wheels of the SLR Desire are also a product of FAB-Design.

Powering the SLR Desire is the same 5.4 litre supercharged V8 found in the standard car, however FAB-Design have managed to up the power output to 750 horsepower and, raise the torque level to an enormous 1,080 Nm. This setup gives the SLR Desire a top speed of 196 mph and a 0-62 mph (100km/h) time of 3.6 seconds.

Micro Mosquito is another cool tony helicopter that you can fly from the comfort of your living room. It is similar to the Picoz, but is it better? The Picoz is very nicely priced at just short of 30 pounds. The Micro Mosquito is priced at just short of 70. The mosquito looks great. It defines what tiny is (well, at least for the next 2 months) and it is also very functional. In the box you get a launch pad, controller and the micro mosquito. 45 minutes of charging will get you about 10 minutes flying time which is not the best considering you have to wait patiently for 45 minutes for 10 minutes of paying. Appart from that it seems it cannot be faulted and would make an ideal present for those who want a cheaper alternative to the fully priced petrol powered rc helicopters.

Sony have released the Micro Vault USB drives which are a massive (not really) 1.45cm x 3cm x 2.7mm. Thats small!!! They come in ranges of 256Mb to 2Gb currently and are available right now in Korea. Not sure when they will be available over this side of the world though. We will report when that happens

This new camcorder has a 5.4 megapixel CCD and records DVD quality film on to it’s memory. The screen is high res and LCD (2.5″) and the camera can capture 720×480 at an impressive 30 frames per second. Video and pictures are stored on either the 64Meg of internal memory or an SD card which is not included. With the device being able to use up to a 4GB memory card it could easily record 4 hours of DVD quality recording. MPEG4 is used to store the video files which makes them highly compatible with plenty of media players. Picture taking can be done at 5.4 mega pixels and the camera features 8x digital zoom and a flash.

With it being encased in stainless steel it makes it tough and durable.

world's first swimming car

Three decades ago James Bond (then enacted by British star Roger Moore) wowed the world with a car that could 'fly' under water in the movie The Spy Who Loved Me. Only, it was animation and not an actual scene.

But Frank M Rinderknecht, the 52-year-old automobile visionary and boss of Swiss automaker Rinspeed, has turned a dream into reality with his 'sQuba.'

Rinspeed sQuba is the most exciting thing at this year's Geneva Motor Show and is creating many a ripple.

sQuba is the world's first real submersible car that can 'move like a fish underwater'.
It can dive up to 32.8 feet (10 mt) below the surface of the water and can move at a sedate 1.8 miles per hour.

The sQuba has an open cockpit for 'safety reasons' (so that people can get out easily anytime in case of an emergency). The occupants of the car have to breathe compressed air through built-in scuba masks.

sQuba is an electric car that uses rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and 3 electric motors for propulsion. It is a zero-emission car as documented by the rotating license plate in the rear. It produces no exhaust emissions.

The 'sQuba's' filling station is the water reservoir.? It is no surprise that the vehicle features powerful yet energy-saving LED lighting technology.
The first car that could drive underwater was Quandt's Amphibicar, built in 1968. Only 3,878 were produced but many are still being driven on roads.

Then Gibbs Technologies came up with Gibbs Aquada in 2004 which Virgin boss Richard Branson used to break the speed record for crossing the English Channel.
However, the sQuba seems to be the most exciting of them all.

To drive on the roads, the sQuba 'relies on a stainless coil-over suspension from KW automotive and large Pirelli tires mounted on custom-made forged light-weight wheels from AEZ with 17- and 18-inch diameters.'

In the competitive world of sleek and wind splitting motorcycle design, aero-dynamic drag efficiency takes a back seat only to face stretching speed and performance.
This latest concept by NON-OBJECT called “nUCLEUS” throws out the current rule book and presents this “Square Against Air” electric motorcycle design.
nUCLEUS boasts a thin comfortable saddle and horse-like behavior that lowers itself when idle and raises when in motion.
The air defying side-view hides the fact that these pieces of metal are simply blades from the front.
It would be curious to see how this machine proves itself in a wind tunnel and stability at high speeds.

Speech Controlled Wheel Chair

A speech recognition system (HM2007) was connected to an Innovation FIRST controller board, and they both where mounted on an old electric wheel chair. Some 12 Sensors were also mounted on the chair for detecting Stairs, obstacles and slops. The man on the chair speaks to a microphone, and the HM2007 recognizes the word and sends its code to the FIRST microcontroller. The C code on the FIRST controller receives the code from the HM2007 and the data from the sensors, and after processing it all together the controller outputs two voltage that tell the chair controller where and how fast to go.

The chair also got an EMIC text-to-speech module. This module vocally speaks out warnings to the man on the chair.

SkyTran the new Concept

The American company UniModal Transport Solutions developed a concept for a very high-capacity and high-speed Personal Rapid Transport (PRT) network.

This SkyTran system operates with individual, two-passenger vehicles, which are propelled and suspended by a maglev system from overhead guideways. These are laid out in a one mile by one mile networked grid throughout the city. A large number of small departure and exit portals are placed underneath the guideways at approximately every 400 metres or at every city block.

At the selected exit portal, the vehicle enters a deceleration lane where the speed is reduced until it stops at the arrival portal. Individual vehicles are capable of speeds up to 160 kilometres per hour within city limits or 240 kilometres per hour between cities. A very short braking distance allows a distance between traveling vehicles of a mere 25 metres.

XO Move concept bike moves us

It’s real name is the XO Move. But it looks like a transformer and almost acts like one.

The concept is that when parked it transforms and locks up for security. It is adaptable to user needs, can carry one or two persons and sports a variable wheel base to make it more stable on the roads. Possibly it can take on Megatron too. who knows?

Forest Fire “Clear Cut” Robot

The forest fire prevention robot by Jordan Guelde is an advanced robot designed to clear large areas of foliage from around a forest fire to help stop the flames from spreading.

Traditional back burning would certainly be cheaper and possibly less lethal to surrounding wildlife, but complete with and array of hubless motors, and integrated fuel system of its back this robot is a hell of a lot cooler. Unfortunately this version is intended for entertainment design rather than the production line, but with the help of Governor Schwarzenegger maybe the production line is possible?
