Ernest Gonzalez “Dancing In The Snow”

I’ve heard some really good bands coming out that mix dreamy electronics mixed with live instrumentation and complex, creative drumbeats creating this hazy psychedlic style that is also pretty tight melodically. The latest addition to this is Ernest Gonzalez who released an EP last year after splitting from the Belgium psychedelic spacerock band Sylvester Anfang. Looking forward to hearing a full release from this guy.

Looks like you can purchase some of his cd’s here and his new LP is due out Feb 9th (with some pretty sweet cover art) and listen to the entire thing new LP on Spinner, it’s a great ride.

Vampire Weekend play La Blogotheque’s Soirées De Poche

Apparently La Blogotheque started a separate video series titled soirées de poche and Vampire Weekend recently played on it. I never really listen to this bands albums that much, but live they are pretty nice to listen to (via prefix).

Frightened Rabbit Contest and Video “Nothing Like You”

One of my most anticipated albums of this year is coming from Frightened Rabbit, they are a pretty straightforward band that just knows how to write some good tunes. I mean, their album title is called Winter of Mixed Drinks, which fits right in with the kind of winter I am having. Anyways, they have a video out for their excellent new song “Nothing Like You” and you can enter a contest here where you make a video of your favorite mixed drink, I’m trying to decide between Vodka/Soda w/lime, White Russian, or a seabreeze with 5 different kinds of Umbrellas.

Sic’em on a Chicken?

I didn’t watch the Grammys the other night, but it appears that this band won best new artist…. and as a result someone has been blasting it at my work on repeat for the last few days (not because they like the band either). I walk home at night with “sic’em on a chicken” in my head. This is where I would go into some rant about how the Grammys are bad, but it’s just way too obvious. But since I have to listen to this song 15 times a day, I figured I would also extend that gift to the our readers.

Beach House Play Daytrotter

Beach House stopped by Daytrotter to do four of their songs off their amazing new album Teen Dream, which is an early contender for album of the year. These sound just as good, if not better, live. Impressive.

Band to Watch: Phantogram

Phantogram are from upstate new york, are made up of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel, and make some pretty damned good moody/dreamy angular-synth-pop numbers (at least the two songs i’ve heard, and you can hear below). Their debut album Eyelid Movies will be out on Barsuk Records February 9th, and they will be touring the entire month of February; stopping at DC9 on 2/15.

These guys definitely have kind of a bat for lashes/The XX sound going, only not as boring/redundant as the XX (someone had to say it), and these songs (especially “Mouthful of Diamonds”) have me looking forward to hearing the full-length.

New Serena Maneesh “I Just Want To See Your Face”

It’s been a while since I have heard anything from Serena Maneesh, and the last album was something I got into for a couple months and then completely forgot about. Their music can be a bit grating, but this new song has something going for it, it goes in some crazy directions but has a solid female vocal melody that holds it together. The song has a swirling quality to it that might make some nauseus, but I think sometimes it can be pretty cool when a song invokes a physical feeling like that, especially for the kind of music this band is going for.

Serena Maneesh “I Just Want To See Your Face”

Their new album, S-M 2: Abyss In B Minor, comes our March 23rd and they have some tour dates to go along with it (after the jump)
