It’s a common question that people ask “Can you show me how to put a condom on?”

Once you have done it a few times in the correct manor it becomes a very easy task. For a condom to be fully effective it needs to be out on correctly so it is very important to learn and practice the simple procedure.

Mak sure you handle the condom packet correct, do not rip the condom or keep it in a pocket or somewhere where it could become pierced.

Also be aware that some certain types of lubricants can damage a standard latex condom so only use water-based lubricants. K-Y jelly or AstroGlide are recomended for usewith latex condoms. Many oil-based lubricants like petroleum jelly, cold cream, butter, or mineral and vegetable oils can damage latex and make the condom ineffective.

How to Put on a Condom

Every package of condoms is supplied with detailed instructions for care and use. Always read these and always check the expiry date. Never use condoms that are past their expiry date.

1. Always put the condom on before your penis touches your partner’s vagina or anus. Your penis can leak fluid before and after ejaculation. The fluid could contain enough germs to pass sexually transmitted infections and in some cases possibly cause pregnancy.
2. Never use the condom more than once. Always use a fresh one for each erection (”hard-on, stock, woody, whatever you want to call it!”) and per ejaculation. It is always worth having more condoms than you thin you need…. some nights work out that way !
3. A standard condom comes rolled in a ring shape. They are individually sealed in aluminum foil or plastic. Don’t tear the condom while unwrapping it. If it is torn, brittle, stiff, or sticky, throw it away immediately and start fresh with a new one.
4. Before you start to put your condom on, squeeze a few drops of lubricant inside the condom (some condoms may be sufficiently lubricated, see individual instructions).
5. If you are uncircumcised, Pull back the foreskin before starting to roll on the condom.
6. Place the rolled condom over the tip of your hard penis.
7. Leave approximately half an inch of space at the tip to collect your semen.
8. Gently pinch the air out of the tip with one hand while placing onto your penis.
9. Unroll the condom over your penis with the your other hand.
10. Roll it all the way down to the base of your penis.
11. Smooth out any air bubbles. (Friction against air bubbles can cause condom breaks.)
12. Lubricate the outside of the condom (some condoms may be sufficiently lubricated, see individual instructions).

You may want to direct your partner to these instructions. Putting on a condom can be integrated into foreplay and can be something that your partner can do for you.
