Happy International Women’s Day!

The first episode of our series Conversations in Film is with two cinematographers: the established Myrthe Mosterman and just starting Judith Boeschoten. To celebrate International Women’s Day we wanted to invite these women, working in a (*sigh) traditionally male role in the film world, to interview each other. Like most women at work, Myrthe shares that she usually isn’t thinking about gender when she steps onto a set and that making a distinction between male and female DOP’s is about as abstract as separating people because of the Masters degree they have. But there is sadly still a gender gap at work on film sets and this is not for lack of talented female film makers.⁣
⁣⁣ ⁣⁣
Due to a seriously outdated concept of what a cinematographer’s role on set used to be (carrying heavy equipment around), the number of female DOPs (and generally female crew) is still incredibly low. In Hollywood, Power of the Dog DOP Ari Wegner has just become the second woman ever to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography. It’s definitely a reminder that we’re at the very start of progress!⁣

Welcome – Jermain Cikic

We are thrilled to share the news that rising talent Dutch/Bosnian photographer Jermain Cikic is joining our photography roster.⁣
⁣
Jermain feels an intrinsic pull towards topics related to migration, displacement, identity and home. His latest photographic project ‘Where Dreams Get Shattered’, which shares humanizing portraits of refugees based in Samos (Greece), was featured by platforms like Atmos, It’s Nice That, and Huck Magazine. Whilst Jermain’s work focuses mostly on documentary projects, his ability to play right at the intersection between aesthetic creativity and uncompromising reality creates fascinating fashion editorials. Capturing people and places with a sensitive eye where vibrancy and intensity come forward through his use of colour. Jermain strives to uncover beauty and significance in the ordinary, engaging with both his head and heart.

Moviezone x CZAR

We are teaming up with Moviezone, from the Eye Film Museum, to bring the professionalisation program back in 2022! ⁣

Together with the Moviezone team we have curated a series of masterclasses for the 15 young filmmakers who were selected.

The sessions will take place from January 25, every Tuesday in De Kazerne Reigersbos 5-7 pm in Amsterdam Zuidoost.

Boris’s visual style is characterised by fashion influences, driven by a search for beauty: in all its imperfect forms. He has a definitive, distinct aesthetic through which he captures his portraits, creating truly intriguing editorial images. Whilst statuesque and eye-catching, Boris’s photographs have a simultaneously soft and romantic feel. Playing with lighting sources to create an aura of mystery around his subjects. The result are images which fuse art and fashion.

Who we are:

CZAR is an award-winning, Amsterdam based production company creating story-driven content, with over 25 years of experience. We represent a roster of amazing directors – from the young and curious to the seasoned. CZAR is also a Photography Agency, representing artists worldwide.

From January 2022 we are looking for an intern to support our production team. In this role we offer you the following tasks and responsibilities, among others:

You are responsible for the preparation of various documents for productions;
You assist producers at the office and at a shooting location (s);
You will perform various functions during shooting days; from assisting the location manager or director to guiding cast and team to the set;
During shooting days you are responsible for obtaining necessary props and materials.
You will assist with the general office management
We want you to learn from up close what it takes to produce a film, in particular for high quality, large-scale commercial productions.

Who you are:

You are available from January 2022 to May 2022 (5 months);
You are registered with a higher education or university education institution;
You are in possession of a B driving license;
You are passionate about the production industry.
