This has proved to be the very effective program for weight loss. Hope this will be of much use to all those who are conscious of their weight and health.

WEIGHT LOSS DIET for 7 days (Tested by corporates)
This program was developed in conjunction with the grant from the US Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. It was field tested at the Johns Hopkins Research Centre and was approved for distribution by the Board of Directors of General Motors Corporation at a general meeting on August 15, 1995.

This Program is designed for a target weight loss of 5 - 6 Kgs per week. It will also improve your attitude and emotions because of its systematic cleansing effects. The effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the foods eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value. This plan can be used as often as you like to without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to fell lighter by at least 10 pounds. You will have an abundance of energy and improved disposition. During the first seven days you must drink 10 glasses of water each day.

1'st Day:
All fruits except bananas. Your first day consist of all fruits you want. It is suggested you consume lots of melons the first day especially watermelon and cantaloupe.
2'ndDay:
All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the raw and cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the amount or type. Avoid oil and coconut while cooking vegetables. Have large boiled potato for breakfast.
3'rd Day:
Any mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity, no bananas yet and no potatoes today.
4'th Day:
Banana and Milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. You can also have 1 bowl of Vegetable soup.
5'th Day:
Today is feast day. You will eat 1 cup of rice. You also have to eat six whole tomatoes and drink 12 glasses of water today to cleanse your system of the excess uric acid you will be producing.
6'th Day:
Today is another all vegetables day. You must eat 1 cup of rice today and eat all the vegetables you want, cooked or uncooked, in your hearts content.
7'th Day:
Today your food intake will consist of 1 cup of rice, fruit juice and the vegetables you care to consume. Tomorrow morning you will be five to eight Kgs. Lighter than 1 week ago. If you desire further weight loss repeat the program again. Repeat the program as often as you like. However, it is suggested that you rest for three days before every repetition.

You have your system under control now and it will thank you for all the purging and cleansing you just gave it. Even more than a diet program it is good to follow this diet once in a while to clean your digestive system and remove toxic substances that have accumulated in the system.

The most important element of the program is the 10 tall glasses of water a day. You can also flavor the water with some lemon to make the drink easier. While on the program take only black coffee and never more than one teaspoon of oil. Preferably do not use oil because of the high calorific content. No fruit juices before day seven.
Here is what happens to your body while you are on this program and how and why it works:

Day One: You are preparing your system for the upcoming program. Your only source of nutrition is fresh fruits. Fruits are nature's perfect food. They provide everything you can possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety.
Day Two: Starts with a fix of complex carbohydrates in the form of a boiled potato. This is taken in the form of a boiled potato and taken in the morning to provide energy and balance. The rest of the day too consists of vegetables, which are virtually calorie free and provide essential nutrients and fiber.
Day Three: Eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from fruits. Your system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will have cravings, which should start to diminish by day four.
Day Four: Bananas and milk. You are in for a surprise. You probably will not be able to eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there for the potassium you have lost and sodium you may have missed the last three days. You will notice a definite loss of desire for sweets and you will be surprised at how easy this day will go.
Day Five: Rice and tomatoes. The rice is for the carbohydrates and the tomatoes are for the digestion and fiber. Lots and lots of water purify you system. You should notice colorless urine today. Do not feel you have to eat one-cup rice, you may eat less. But you may eat six tomatoes.
Day Six: It is similar to five. Vitamins and fiber from the vegetables and carbohydrates from the rice. By now your system is in a total weight loss inclination. There should be a noticeable difference in the way you look today compared to day one.
Day Seven: You may celebrate with champagne. You may also have white wine instead of champagne, but in all practical programs, and in all surveys done to measure the success of the program, General Motors employees have always preferred champagne to white wine.

More than one cup of coffee with milk is especially forbidden. Milk and oil and empty calories to your diet. Coffee lovers can console themselves with black coffee. However, after the first week, it will help your digestion and set your stomach. The key thing to remember is that if you are hungry at any time, then you are not following the diet correctly. Almost all people give up the diet when they are hungry. If it is a vegetable day, eat as much vegetables that you are never hungry. If it is a fruits day, eat so much fruits that you are never hungry. You may be bored of eating vegetables all day, but you should not be hungry. You take any amount of wonder soup on any day.

Memory and Attitude

So, you think that your memory is bad?

1) It’s probably not as bad as you think!
2) Attitude is everything!

Older people tend to think that memory problems are an inevitable sign of aging. This is FALSE!

Older people tend to expect to have poorer memories as they get older, and they tend to think that their own memory performance is worse than it really is. This can be really problematic, because it means that older people will not try as hard as younger people to learn new strategies to remember things, because they think that it won’t work. They become less motivated, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Research has shown that having a positive attitude towards life and towards your abilities is the key to successful aging and memory performance. To have a better memory, people have to believe that change is possible. People who are physically healthy tend to do better on memory tasks. The research has also shown that immediately after exercising, people are able to learn and remember new information better than if they has been sitting still. Why is this? One possible explanation is that exercise means that there is greater blood flow to the brain. This increase in blood flow gives your brain more oxygen and other nutrients, which it uses as food. So, get moving! Get active!

Also interesting is the finding that for people who feel depressed, participating in a regular exercise program can help them feel less depressed. This is especially important to remember since depression can make memory worse too. We’ll talk more about the depression-memory connection later.

But if you can’t participate in regular physical exercise, don’t despair! Research has shown that keeping active in other ways can also help keep your memory stable. The more activities you take part in (e.g., socializing with others, walking, gardening, playing cards, dancing, going out, playing bingo, reading, doing cross-word puzzles, etc..), the better your memory ability will tend to be. Keep busy! Keep active!

Memory Strategies

When you are learning something new, or trying to remember things, it is important to consider the following five general principles, which Dr. Angela Troyer at the Baycrest Center for Geriatric Care in Toronto, arranged into the words A WORM.

1) Attended to: Pay close attention to the information that you want to remember. If you don’t pay attention, you are not likely to be able to remember it.

2) Written: Write it down. The act of writing something down helps you remember it better. Whenever you can, write down what you want to be able to remember. It is a very good idea to writes lists and to make use of notes and calendars as much as possible.

3) Organized: Organize your surroundings so that you know where things are. Organize items and lists into meaningful clusters.

4) Repeated: Repeat aloud the information that you want to remember. First, repeat the information at short intervals, say, every 10 seconds. Later repeat the information over longer intervals, say every 2 minutes, and then every 15 minutes, then once an hour. The research shows that repeating information over spaced intervals is the best way to remember it.

5) Meaningful: Think about the meaning of the information that you want to remember. Make it meaningful. This can include visualization and association, which we will discuss in a later section.

Memory and Food Connection

What you eat can affect your memory… but the relationship between diet and memory is complex, and is still under debate. What we do know, however, is that:

Certain vitamin deficiencies (e.g. B1, B3, B6, B12, folic acid) may be related to memory difficulties. Make sure to get your vitamins and minerals:

1) B1 - sunflower seeds, whole and enriched grains, dried

2) Beans, pork

3) B3 - mushrooms, bran, tuna, chicken, beef, peanuts

4) B6 - spinach, broccoli, bananas

5) B12 - almost exclusively in animal products

6) Folic acid - green leafy vegetables, orange juice, sprouts, chick peas

7) It is important to eat a balanced diet!

8) Eating or drinking something with sugar in it (like orange juice) can help you learn and remember things, at least for a little while.

9) Keep your coffee and alcohol intake low, because it can lead you to become dehydrated, which doesn’t make you as sharp!

10) People with high levels of cholesterol have found that lowering their cholesterol results in improved memory and cognitive abilities.

11) Homeopathic remedies such as ginko and ginseng are becoming all the rage, but there hasn’t been much research on how these “natural” herbs affect your health or your memory. Anyone taking these products should talk with their doctor, because there can be very serious side effects

Review your notes every day.

This suggestion is one which we have all heard a thousand times. Unfortunately, most of us never really believe it until we actually try it. Spend 30 minutes or so each evening going over the notes from each class. There are at least two tremendous benefits to be gained from this discipline.

1. Research has shown that reviewing new material within 24 hours of hearing it increases your retention of that material by about 60%. This means that you will be 60% ahead of the game the next time you walk into class. If you want to significantly reduce the time necessary to prepare for exams, this is the way to do it.

2. Reviewing material before the next class period enables you to identify points of confusion or omission in your notes, which prepares you to ask the questions you need to ask before the next lecture. Again, confusion is your worst enemy.

Take good notes

1. Always take the notes for a particular class in the same notebook. Spiral bound notebooks were invented because they solved the problem of keeping related information consolidated in one place. Take advantage of this.

2. Date each entry into your notebook.

3. It is usually best to keep the notes for different classes separate from each other. Spiral notebooks with built in dividers are excellent for this purpose.

4. Your notes should contain as complete a record of what the instructor said as possible. Of course, you should not try to write every word spoken, but don't leave out ideas. When you study, your notes should call back to your mind the entire sequence of ideas presented. Take care to spell all new words carefully. It you don't know how to spell a word, ask your instructor to write it on the board. Most will automatically do so for new or difficult terms.

5. Anything the instructor writes on the board should appear in your notes. If the instructor took the time to write it out, he or she considers it important. You should do the same.

6. If possible, try to take your notes in some kind of outline form. The organization of ideas is as important as the content of those ideas, especially when it comes to learning the material for an exam.

7. You might find it useful to have a second color of pen or pencil available for highlighting important ideas or indicating vocabulary.

Tips for Effective Study

1. Jot down things that are on your mind before you study, then set this list to the side. Add to it anything that distracts you as you are studying. Take care of the list later.

2. Study at the same time each day. A regular schedule can help you frame this as “study time”.

3. Set a timer for an hour, don't allow yourself to stop studying until it goes off.

4. Take breaks. A three minute break for every 30 minutes of study is a good guideline. Take a longer break after 90 minutes.

5. Set goals for your session that are realistic (number of problems to solve, pages to read, etc.) When you have met one of your study goals, reward yourself with a short break. Then, return to your study area.

6. Study in an area away from distractions such as a library, study lounge, or an empty classroom.

7. Make sure you have everything that you need before you begin.

8. Make sure your environment is conducive to studying, no TV, no telephone, no roommate, no boyfriend/girlfriend.

9. Make studying an active process; take notes and make review sheets. Intersperse different kinds of study into one session, e.g. reading, writing, taking notes, memorizing, etc.

10. Identify how what you are studying is relevant to your life. Draw connections between things you already know.

11. Insure that you are sleeping enough, eating well, and getting regular exercise. Your mind will be more alert, and you will be less likely to fall asleep or daydream.

Welcome

Welcome friends, to Competitiveguru Blog.
Here we are going to post regularly:

1) New announcements
2) Exam tips
3) Memory techniques
4) Relaxation tequniques
5) Visualization, focusing & concentration techniques
6) Personality development
7) Interview tequniques
And much much more...

Remember, this blog is only alive if you give comments and suggestions and disscuss on topics which we post here!
