It’s obvious the many benefits that green walls and roofs produce. This article clearly revealed many of them. The most difficult thing is getting people to go green. Your article should help in the process of doing so. Thank you for sharing.

Hi James- thanks for your sharp eye. Please provide us with photos to swap out. Those are place-savers because we've had to become very careful with the Getty Images police, and can't always know where a seemingly appropriate photo has come from.

Just a note on the photos- Neither photo is spray foam insulation. The Open Cell is too open and is probably flexible cushion foam for seating. The Closed Cell is a metallic foam, probably aluminum. I hope to provide real photos if I can obtain them. I don't want folks to get the impression that Open Cell foam lets air pass through. BOTH Open Cell and Closed cell foams are rated as air barriers and BOTH pass ASTM E-283 for air-impermeability. Therefore both types of foam DO NOT have to fill a framing cavity all the way such as is required with fiber insulation. In fact, I believe the term "Open Cell" is a misnomer because it erroneously implies that air can pass easily through the foam. Great article. Thank You!

This is a very informative article on glass houses being energy efficient, especially with California’s Title 24 energy code strictly being implemented.

In the past we have had much luck with double insulating glass to prevent heat loss. No matter what you do to improve the R-value you’re only getting ½” of air space. I would go with a curtain wall company that would provide this system

Hi, the best thing to do is to contact one of the installers mentioned for advice. Closed cell spray foam has greater infiltration resistance, along with some possible water resistance, but it's always best to speak with a knowlegable provider in your area.

Thanks,

Mark

LEEDS,
firm is so ancient that old school attempt at (insert intelligent sounding word, or LEEDS) building workable residence in SW desert is simple use of proven materials; concrete (in situ) steel, and western red cedar power poles (rescued). concrete residence retains flywheel temperature balance without flyash additive ,or "catchy wording. nuff said.

Would you happen to know if closed cell spray foam is better than open cell. I want to insulate our basement that is unfinished right now. Thanks
