I would like to thank you for the efforts you have made in composing this article. I am going for the same best work from you in the future as well. In fact your fanciful writing abilities has prompted me to start my own blog now. Actually the blogging is spreading its wings rapidly. Your write up is a fine example of it.

You can learn a lot about a person from the way they distribute their values. Like you've said above, Erica, you value power the least and love the most; meaning that you probably feel best in relationships (romantic and friendly) where there is an equal amount of power between people, a healthy sharing of love and ideas and so on.

If I had to chose, I think my order would be:

Freedom
Love
Health
Intimacy
Comfort
Security
Passion
Success
Power
Adventure

That's probably what it is for me, although there's a huge gap between success and power, over power I think they're all rather important and the gaps aren't very big but more like I wouldn't want the lower ones if I didn't have the ones above. The adventure/comfort bit is the one I'm having trouble placing, they're both about equally important and I'm not sure which one I prefer. Right now I think I'm happy with the order though.

Very true, Sam. Better yet; instead of taking the lump sum and chopping it up across decades; there's a magic limit somewhere in the vicinity of $400,000 to $500,000 where your money, carefully invested, can actually be all you need to live comfortably (as in your "upper-middle class" example) just by benefiting from the interest. Index funds, for example can have a return of 10 to 20 per cent a year.

If you know when your own biology tells you that you're most fit to work, see if it isn't possible to do your most demanding and complicated work at that time. I know that it may be difficult to rearrange your schedule at work, but maybe there are some things that you can change?

Also, the value of a good night's sleep should never be underestimated if you're not feeling energetic enough during the days.

I agree with that winning the lottery doesn't keep you rich. It makes you rich for a short period, and I don't care how much you win, if it's in a lump-sum, then you're going to get a bunch of really, REALLY distant relatives show up at your door asking for handouts or "investment capital" for this or that. I'd rather take that lump-sum, chop it up across 3-5 decades, and actually remain rich, and by rich, I mean an upper-middle class income. I would still love to continue my 9-5 life because my 5-9 life is way too demanding! It's nice to go to the office and earn an honest dollar, plus it's great excuse to not be at home!

As for the cans of coke........you get refunded on recycling! The book's value is in its content. If you've re-read it, then you know it well, and can apply the knowledge you've gained from it so it can fit in some context of problem solving in the future. We learn from our own mistakes, but books teach us to learn from others.

I agree with what you are saying here. In particular, I agree that these 5 points you make are anything but simple and easy. For example, fear of failure is very real for many people. But I do agree with your train of thought.

I would like to think I can combat using those good methods. I seem to have become so tired when working, that it is very difficult to get back to work. I am currently looking at "motivation while tired" blogs because I feel truly too tired to work. I have been working on a 2 hour task through some of the night and half of one day. With big breaks in between. I dont seem to become fired-up to work until about 6pm.
