No Scott, I never said that you can replace Visual Studio with Notepad++. I said I do web-development with Notpade++. I am not a web-dev, I only sometimes do web-dev, and that too for my smallish websites. 99.9% of the time I do C++ and Java and work with IDEs like Visual C++ express, CodeLite, Eclipse, Netbeans.

There is no real replacement for IDEs if you want to do serious development.

I had a lot of luck in speeding up VS 2010, by removing one of the extensions that I had recently installed. Specifically, a T4 template editing extension. Apparently, it thought that it should try to analyze each and every file regardless of the file type.

As to using Notepad++ for development, more power to you. I remember using editors like that way back in the day, and I do not have any desire to be luddite of development. Having a single interface to manage Intellisense, builds, debugging, test runs, and all the other actions required for a good application is priceless regardless of the language.

@Astha
The easiest way is to download and install the Netbeans C++ package http://netbeans.org/features/cpp/

If you already have netbeans installed and don't have C++ plugin, you have to install it from the menu Tools > Plugins. Select the C/C++ plugin and click next.

If you don't have C++ installed then you need to either install Cygwin or MinGW under Windows or GCC under *NIX systems.

Check the instructions on the page http://netbeans.org/community/releases/72/cpp-setup-instructions.html
