I really wouldn’t bother with rel=”canonical” in most cases. If you built your site well in the beginning all alternative URLs would be 301d in your .htaccess or apache config so that all your link juice goes to one page (and people only ever link to that page!).

Great post! I’m always surprised by how many WP themes don’t use H1 tags for the post title/header by default. WP can be very SEO friendly, especially with the tools you mentioned above.
