“An entrepreneur attempts to create a new product, service or solution while accepting responsibility for the results.” I like your definition best, probably because it is inclusive rather than exclusive.

It’s absurd to say you can only be considered an entrepreneur if your venture can be scaled. The large internet companies of today weren’t built exclusively on the blood, sweat, tears and capital of the founders; there were VCs coming in to help, often at a quite early stage.

Great analysis, Jim. I’ve heard there are at least 25 million small businesses in America. If Obamacare is not reversed by the Supreme Court, many of those companies will face staggering healthcare costs.

President Obama seems to be making it clear that he feels the job of small businesses is to help government grow. I don’t agree. The job of small businesses is to grow wealth for owners and create private sector jobs through adding value to the community.

The example of Greece is all too clearly before us. Businesses in Greece have closed because they can’t get operating capital and even if they could, ordinary Greeks have stopped buying. I understand citizens are transferring their money out of the country in anticipation of bank failures and currency devaluation. Perhaps most telling, Greeks think their politicians are out of touch.

Just like President Obama.

Many of us entrepreneurs have been treading water for the last 3 1/2 years, rebuilding, retooling, rethinking quietly. And hoping for a change in 2013.
