If a new instructor has a good opportunity to get in to a dive shop, an offer of $50 per student may seem low, but typically a dive shop has an easier time pulling in business so that new instructor can easily build their business thanks to the dive center. Just another instructor seeing if you are stupid enough to fall for it. As you point out, you didn’t. </p> <p>I realize you think this sort of behavior is “preying” on new scuba instructors. However, if an agency allows someone to safegard someone’s life while they are in the instructors care in a scuba class context, shouldn’t the instructor be allowed the same lattitude in figuring out if this is a good financial decision for them? I would think if someone is part of a “professional” association of diving instructors, they would have the brains to know when they were being taken advantage of. (But then again, based on some of the instructors I have seen in my day, that is a pretty big leap)</p> <p>This sort of stuff goes on all the time though. I had all sorts of crazy requests in the past. My favorite was a guy who wanted to put me on surface supply so I could hoop net lobsters in San Diego and Mission Bay. He would pay me $10 per 10 lobsters I caught. (Note that this is all highly illegal. Diving in the bay is illegal. Diving without a commercial permit is illegal. Taking over the limit is illegal.
