Well John thank you for finding our site and contributing your commentary. Your assumption about quid pro quo for signing up is a false oversimplification that is quite elementary but expected in the online world. If you took the time to read our material, perhaps become a subscriber, and learn from what we coach...there are no "right words" to say nor auto-endorsement of the "R" behind one's name. We stay distinctly away from policy rather tell anyone who's willing to come along how to execute an effective online campaign. Bob's competition has found this site to be a great place to launch attacks and we're honored that you've found us. I hope your candidate finds his/her way to an effective online campaign. If we can help our subscription (vs the endorsement you imply) is plainly obvious (per the BUY NOW) button on the landing page. I wish you the best and hope you have found many more sites in which to push out anti-everyone-else comments. Good luck!

Doug,
Are you saying all I need to do is buy a membership and then I receive your endorsement. Awesome How much does it cost? The website you mentioned does have photos and some really interesting information. This is the whole problem with the process is if you pay the right consultant, say the right words, and have a redstate R behind your name you are ushered in as the chosen candidate. The problem is when you find otherwise no one runs away because they don't have any backbone to tell the candidate to get out of the race. Well at least you got some of Bob's usss money. That's capitalism at its finest.

Doug:

Since you and I agree on this subject, when you said: "That’s my long winded way of saying I believe Jeff’s thinking to be detrimental to his candidates’ campaigns," I assume you meant: "I believe the book's author, (Mark McNamara's,) thinking to be detrimental . . ."

Even though McNamara wrote the Political Campaign Desk Reference a couple of years ago, his sentiment seems to pre-date the widespread use of new media and social media. I'm going to try and get in touch with him to see if his view of social media has changed since writing his book. I'll let you know.

I agree with you Jeff and thanks for the insightful comment. So my question back to the candidate/consultant would be, "So which media channels today do you believe are so tightly controlled and tilted in your favor? (ie cannot be dissected for vulnerabilities, etc.) I'd also look at the record and suggest that no matter who someone is and what they say or don't say in any media...that there are vulnerabilities. So, when people like you and me (and just about the entire universe) head online to see if the vulnerabilities are true or not...what do I find? I will find a cadre of posts, articles, videos, position statements, comments, social commentary, facebook conversations, etc...all of which candidate X is distinctly absent from...while the competition is robustly represented. That's my long winded way of saying I believe Jeff's thinking to be detrimental to his candidates' campaigns. I'm not suggesting that someone cannot win without these tools in place, but that possibility is shrinking with each election cycle. Since we do this for a living, we ask audiences of 10 to 500 "Where do you look for information first?" and 98% say online (most say Google). So it's suicide to still believe that the blogosphere is any different that the "traditional mediasphere" anymore. If your blogs/writings/videos can't stand on their own and be helpful to you and present your case and your message...I can't support you as a candidate. How is someone like ME going to even consider you for office if I you don't communicate in a channel that I use? Stone tablets and carrier pigeons are coming back I hear.

I agree with you. It is definitely narrow-minded and absolutely antiquated. We wrote a post a while back about first hiring a tech consultant before a political consultant and this is why.

Dave Funk has written in the neighborhood of 125 blog posts. None of his opponents thus far have been able to use it against him. While a candidate does need to be careful about what they discuss, blogging is a requirement in new-age politics.

All of Funk's opponents have done nothing more than share sound bites and vague policy changes like "lower taxes." Funk has actually given real policy changes in blog posts. It's old-school thinking to follow McNamara's opinion and old-school is quickly becoming the wrong way of doing anything

Steve:

I just finished reading The Political Campaign Desk Reference by Mark McNamara. He adamantly states a political candidate should not blog. He said, very few people pay much attention to a political blog. He said the people who were most likely to truly study a candidate's blog were the team members of the candidate's opponent; and they would do deep analysis to look for vulnerabilities. When a candidate puts his personal thoughts into a permanent online record, he said, it opens the candidate up to attack and exploitation by his opponent.

I have very strong feelings on McNamara's opinion. I think it is, for openers, narrow-minded and antiquated. Where do you stand?
