This article was so sad. It really brought to light another issue I hadn't even considered. I was glad to see CNN covering it.

@ snagale I agree with most of your views to a pretty substantial point. My only note of contention would be thus: If we used the economy, some foreign war, or some other stressor as reason for our rights and considerations to take a backseat, then we'll be the perennial beggar and civil-rights pauper.

All Obama has to do is throw us a bone. He doesn't have to change the world. He doesn't have to make some grand statement - he simply has to make ANY statement. And to this moment, we don't get even a casual mention.

DADT is a great place to start. The nation supports its repeal and despite Obama's suggestions to the contrary, a roadpath to doing it quickly and legally - with the long-term solution following closely behind - has already been laid out. It's not that he doesn't have the time - he isn't willing to expend the political capital to see it through. He isn't willing to have the right swing their rusty hammer at him.

And that's gutless.

I think we need to give President Obama some more time to deal with this issue. Let's keep in mind that he's had to deal with one of the worse economic meltdowns in our nation's history, and yet at the same time he has been still working towards his campaign goals of ending the unjust war in Iraq and the similar war in Afghanistan. This is a lot for a young administration to do, and while he stated in campaign speeches that his belief is for marriage "between a man and a woman," from meeting him and working on his staff I believe wholeheartedly that he belief is marriage equality, but is just hesitant to make this decree/promise to the American people. Yes, we can criticize him for this, but in his heart-of-hearts, I believe that he believes in marriage equality. By stating that the rights have to come individually from states, he is at the same time asserting individual states' rights as is prescribed in the U.S. Constitution, but YES, we must pressure him to reject D.O.M.A., on the grounds that it violates the 'equal protection' clause and 'Full Faith and Credit' law between states.

We'll have to see. I think these might be the next legal battles.

Don't get me wrong—I want to see federally-instituted same-sex marriage support recognized, but it might have to come from the states first, and then work its way up. And D.O.M.A. is a great first step, I believe.

NO KIDDING. I wish the no-on-8 campaign did that in the first place. All I saw were commercials saying "oh - don't worry, gayness won't be taught to your children in schools".....

Instead they should be focusing on the fact that homosexuality is natural and non-threatening.

I really felt those no-on-8 commercials sounded like they were admitting that homosexuality is something to protect our children from. :( How sad.

I "BOOOOO" this decision. So much fear and hate left amongst us, I hope, that in time people will finally see how wrong they are and we can have equality for all.
