Hi,
I have the same issue with wanting to plant landscape over the drain field of my septic. One great plant I have planted is the Japanese fiber banana. Very cold hardy, down to 0 with mulch. I am under the impression that the banana root system is shallow and safe. DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR THIS, I MAY BE WRONG. If I have made a mistake in planting banana trees over the drain field, Please let me know. Also if any one have info in regards to the septic on the root system of the White bird of paradise plant, I would like to know.

A couple of my friends have been recommending your site of late, but I never bothered to look at the beginning. Now that I've actually Having now read your stuff I have gotta say that it is very, very good and I hope this keeps going as long as you are well enough to write. More often than not, it helps me get through a rough day since I like to read sites I'm interested in to chill out. Your writing helps me to do precisely that. I am truly grateful for that, definitely. If it's alright with you, may I ask, how long have you been blogging for? I'm simply asking since I am really considering starting to write myself. Naturally, if you don't care to let me know, I understand, and I wish you luck with your blog nonetheless. Your blog is fantastic!

I am going through something similar now.
I live in the city and am supplied with "city water." My home and water heater are around 3 years old and about 6 months ago the hot water from my shower started smelling like sulfur.
At first I just kept cleaning the drain and shower, but that didn’t work.
My next step was a plumber. he charged me 75 dollars to tell me my drain was dirty, which by now it has had plumbing snakes, liquid plumber, bleach, natural enzymes and a number of other cleaners put through it.
Next, I replaced the anode rod and flushed the water heater. This seemed to work for a very short period. At that time I cranked up the water heater temp to 160, which had the same results you had.
My next step was to drain some water from the heater and put bleach into the water heater and leave it for an hour. This also seemed to have no effect.
The neighbors do not seem to have this problem and their house was built at the same time as mine by the same builder.
I have no idea if I have a water softener, it was not mentioned by the builder if I do. I am not even sure exactly where it would be or what it would even look like at this point. I will ask the neighbors if they know if they have one tonight.
I just sent an email to the city to see if the water possibly comes from a well, but I don’t believe it does.
I actually found a site today which mentions an anode rod made of an alloy of aluminum and zinc that supposedly helps with the problem, as well as an "electric?" anode rod, but I am really kind of getting tired of shelling out cash for solutions that do not seem to work.
I am bookmarking your blog and if I come across anything that actually seems to correct the issue, I will let you know.

Thanks!

This is an older post, and in the past 2 years rain barrel use has definitely increased. But it is a small step that all of us can do to save the environment. (whether the area we live in has a water problem or not)I believe it is a topic that still needs further awareness.

I work for a company that sells rain barrels: www.raintankdepot.com We have rain barrels and rain barrel accessories (for those of us lazy folks who don't want to do the work themselves!)

There are some DIY kits as well. Save your water and save money, and the environment.

Sho,

It is an older article I wrote. Unfortunately, I did not receive enough of a response to go ahead with it, but I did write one myself about essential tips you should know about gardening and landscaping for another blog I have.

Maybe I will try again someday.
