		<description>This just bit us as we ordered some AP-300's to use as replacements for failed units and the controllers would not accept them.  The controller would see the AP but it would never associate.  We are using WS5000 and WS5100.  We would have to do both code updates and patches on our controllers...but we are in the process or replacing the equipment with Trapeze so I think we will try to limp long by taking AP's from areas that do not need coverage.</description>

Ian Jacobs provided a very generic view of how contact centers are morphing with the technology. Under 49% of customer contact was through traditional inbound dialing.  About 19% was through outbound dialing where the contact center calls a user back. and then the remainder was divided up into IM (web chat), Email and other.  It was a decent presentation which seemed to stress that non-telephony means of accessing the contact center were only going to grow if not explode given the available technology - unified communications.

In the end though I guess there was only so much you can cram into 60 minutes. I was hoping for some technical comparision between Avaya/Nortel and Aspect solutions but none was really forthcoming.

In the 2.x software you can't really access the license file because the system is based on Lynx (I believe it was based on Lynx). In the 3.x software the system is based on Linux and you can access the license file and even export and/or back it up.

If you were a large Motorola (formerly Symbol) customer you could contact Motorola and ask them to provide the license information based on the MAC address of the switch.

I haven't personally tried it but I've learned over the years that just because something isn't supported doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. With that said if you did get it to work you might have to weigh the risk of going into a production environment with an unsupported configuration.

I have two 1700s and one 1740 all running 7.x software. I could probably test it out for you if you are really curious... or it might become immediately clear that it won't work without some feature in 8.x software.

Even if you manage to get a replacement DOM that physically works you won't have any software, even if you get the software you won't have the license key that determines how many APs the switch can adopt.

You can't clone a WS5100 to a WS5000, they generally run different versions of software. The WS5000 will run v2.x while the WS5100 will run v3.x.
