Nice to see Youk return with a HR. Maybe not an ideal situation moving Gonzalez to the outfield, but if they can make it work, perhaps Youk’s stay in Boston isn’t destined to come to an end after all. I still say he can get hot and be a huge contributor to that team.

Nonsense as animosity between Jews and Blacks. That has absolutely nothing to do with this. The issue I would like to know is was Delmon Young provoked into his comments. The case seems to criminalize 1/2 of the situation. People use the N word all the time but yet I have never heard of anyone charged with a hate crime because of it

I tend to agree with you. I think Young was probably just drunk and mouthed off. There has been animosity toward Jews from portions of the African-American community since the 1960s. Consider, for example, Louis Farrakahn. At least some of the Black Power narrative during the 60s was directed at Jews, who often operated businesses in ghetto communities and were perceived to exploit blacks. Much of this became anti-Israel sentiment, especially as the Arabs were perceived to be another group oppressed by Jews. It’s hard to say how prevalent these feelings are, but they definitely exist and that’s probably what Bryant meant.

Ralph and Arnold Horween both played in the NFL in 1921-23.

They both played at Harvard under the name “McMahon” so their mother wouldn’t know they were playing such a dangerous game.

That seems to be the prevalent opinion, Ron. I’m not the biggest fan of free agency because I think it tends to destroy competitive balance, but it was probably inevitable and as one of it’s pioneers you can’t deny the impact he’s had on shaping today’s game in scope and popularity.

Agree that he should be in the Hall. Perhaps he’s being “punished” for opening the door to such astronomical salaries and free the players.

While Valentine has a point that Youk has been struggling pretty mightily,terrible spring training and slow start, this is not a point that the manager should be making publicly, especially a week into the regular season. Youkilis deserves better. I’m surprised at a lot of the negativity toward Youkilis that seems to be coming out of Boston. Fans/media seemed to be pushing the idea of moving him during the offseason and a common thread seems to be that it’ll be his last year in Boston regardless. I know he’s had a tough time with injuries and production may have fallen off a bit, but I still think he’ll get it going soon and just a little while ago he was the heart and soul of that team. He’s not spring chicken either, but you figure that contributing to 2 WS titles in Boston, after they waited for an eternity, would buy you a longer leash, but I guess it’s not too shocking that people are fickle and have short memories.

I missed the game yesterday, but just caught the comments in question. First, I was shocked to hear this because I’ve always felt Eagle and the Czar have great chemistry and are pretty funny together on the air. In fact, although the Nets have been pretty atrocious for quite some time, I pretty regularly leave these guys on in the background just for the schtick. They always seem to have a pretty good give and take, but it’s mostly in fun IMO. Eagle may have actually been a bit annoyed in this instance, but it sounds like the articles blew it out of proportion. I’m sure they’ll make up during the few remaining Nets losses coming up, lol.
