The government has always seen things in black and white, there is an infinite number of examples in Cuba supporting that.
I am glad to read this post, I agree 100% with it.
Shame on them for repressing the people who want to express themselves. Shame on those who turn against their own brothers and enjoy the sad power of violence. They are poor human beings serving a sad government who promotes and allows this kind of behavior.

@Grady Ross Daugherty
The Cuban government already tried agricultural co-ops, and as you know recently Raul Castro referred to the fields situation as critically unproductive. Now the government is trying to reverse the process and rent that land to private farmers. What makes you think that co-ops will work out this time?

I remember the street vendors of Centro hawking their wares the summer of 1959. The apartment dwellers opposite my hotel, at the corner of Amistad y San Miguel, would lower baskets from the balconies of their apartments, the vendors would place their wares in the baskets, then they'd be hoisted up. Many vendors had a distinctive, melodious, calls, which I still remember after 50 years! (Have songs ever been written, inspired by these calls?) During recent visits in 2004, 2006 and 2008, I again had the pleasure of listening to these calls.

I remember doing this exact activity with my two daughters, after their afternoon naps, or at 10 in the a.m. (while everyone was still in the beginning stages of a good day). This is really sad. I feel your frustation...and actually my problem solving around this would probably be one of being reduced to tears of frustation. I wish I could make this better, it is such an important outing for a parent and children..

Oh, how sweet it will be if and when Cuba begins using state/worker ownership of cooperative corporations as its "Cuban" form of socialism. The old problems of bureaucracy will quickly disappear, and Cuba will stun the world with her productivity and rising standard of living. Then, it will be the turn of the U.S. government to feel the hot breath of workable socialism, and the mounting enthusiasm of the U.S. people about to opt for a socialist cooperative republic--like the one in brave Cuba!

Don't ever give the Vatican a foot in the door. You might as well invite in the Mafia while you're at it. And the Marines.

i read that there was some violence directed at joanni sanchez, who was on her way to participate in this march. if this is true, it is sad. it is unnaceptable for a supposed revolutionary country to allow athorities to engage in violence against a nonviolent citizen, no matter how counter revolutionary she or he may be. period.
