You guys sound like people who are just trying to promote a shit hole! You sound like you only enjoyed the days before freedom was introduced to SOUTH AFRICA.

But you right about one thing....The true supporters will be hiding in the cave...along with their little minority and empty vessels.

Get with the times, get with the program! Keep up with the new vibe or slip off the cliff as ESP has.

Weirdo!

Hi Norbert,

Thanks for your reply.

If you are referring to the top pic, then I am not sure because that is not my studio but if you mean the midi controller i am using at the bottom, it is the M-Audio Axiom 49 controller. Its pretty awesome i have to say!

yeah it's a been a pretty poor show the last few years from our SAPS! All these stories on Carte Blanche lately about police brutality and even rape, its getting a bit outta hand to be honest....

Can't really blame so many people for jumping ship! This country could be paradise if we could just sort out the crime and corruption....on the other hand, I suppose it's the duty of all of us to get off our asses and actually do something about it. Can't wait for the politicians to act, nothing will ever get done with them leading the show.

How stereotypical, another jew-boy ranting about pseudo-intellectual crap.
Isn't is our god given right (being the chosen people and all) to be condescending if it makes us feel better about ourselves? As far as I'm concerned stereotypes are given a bum rap. Our brains need to create such constructs in order to assimilate and deal with the vast amounts of input to which we are constantly exposed.

If (for example) I am put into a jail cell for the night, and a really large guy with the name 'Avocado' tattooed across his chest taps me on the shoulder, I think I'm entitled to apply the common "I'm about to be raped" stereotype and head straight to "outright panic/fear/scream bloody murder mode" without considering poor Avocado's feelings in the unlikely event that he is in fact a gentle soul looking for an enlightening midnight conversation.

Stereotypes are in fact useful tools in evaluating those around us. In the same way that women have certain tools to weed out genetically/intellectually inferior men very quickly, so must we make very superficial judgements about those with whom we interact, in order to facilitate those very interactions.

The problem lies not in the stereotypes themselves, which serve a purpose, but in refusing to overlook or re-evaluate those stereotypes for ourselves (even on a case-by-case basis) when confronted with evidence to the contrary.

Clearly certain stereotypes are ridiculous to any semi-enlightened individual, but to me a stereotype is a very personal thing based on individual experience. While it can be argued that there are some stereotypes that are universal, you'll mostly find that stereotypes are culture specific, or even limited to small subsets within a culture. For example, I have read research suggesting that certain sub-sections of the South Africa public believe that black people are dirty, whereas the same researchers found that certain sub-sections of black people believe that white people are dirty. Same stereotype, different target.

While I do have a lot more to say on the subject, and while I am INCREDIBLY bored right now, I feel that the comment should not be (substantially) longer than the original post, so I'll end this off now...

Good job on the blog dude, sometimes your ramblings are even quite interesting :)

While it can be argued that there are some stereotypes that are universal, you’ll mostly find that stereotypes are culture specific, or even limited to small subsets within a culture. For example, I have read research suggesting that certain sub-sections of the South Africa public believe that black people are dirty, whereas the same researchers found that certain sub-sections of black people believe that white people are dirty. Same stereotype, different target.

While I do have a lot more to say on the subject, and while I am INCREDIBLY bored right now, I feel that the comment should not be (substantially) longer than the original post, so I’ll end this off now…

Good job on the blog dude, sometimes your ramblings are even quite interesting

Have you read "The fountainhead" by Ayn Rand? the central theme in the book is "individualism vs collectivism, not in politics, but in man's soul". The basic story being around 2 main characters. the one always needs other peoples validation and can't make a decision without thinking of how it affects his social standing and the other character is the opposite. He cares nothing for his social standing and everything he does is based on his own personal beliefs. Maybe this will complement your views or otherwise its a good source to compare yours off...

yes i read a few books these days!! haha

Its true that real world interactions are much better. theres so much more to comunication than just words and its lost in things like facebook and twitter.

i'm sure you agree though that in moderation they have to potential to improve comunication. i have a cousin who lives in america and without talking to her i can see photo's and videos of what they're doing and how her daughter is growing up. its really is amazing!

i think you're right though. you can't be defined by your online profile. they're meant to just be a reflection of who you are in real life and not the other way around...

of course you are not a bad person if you simply give money but I just think that for most people its more of a matter of ticking the boxes and dotting the i's than actually doing it because of real concern.

i mean, when we see shit about our own continent in the news to do with all those poor sods north of us, most of us, including myself, hardly take any notice. We think about it maybe for 2 seconds and then carry on drinking our caffe lattes....so if we are so superficial about it then, how does it change when we decide to throw money at the problem? our core thinking is one of "shame, poor sods but not i'm ok though" so everything we do after that is acting with respect to that belief system.

Some of us might go an send some money somewhere but to me it just seems like we are making ourselves feel better and less guilty about being a have rather than a have-not. I think the intention seems good superficially but i doubt that it's what's really going on subconsiously.

i'm sure there are thousands of exceptions to this but I reckon for most people, its just about trying to end a bit of guilt...

I agree with you on the aid thing but maybe its more down to doing some proper research on your charities and making sure that your money does make a difference. there are good people out there, who need money to do some good.

all i'm saying is that it doesn't have to be a all or nothing thing. giving money or even doing work for other people doesn't make you a good or bad person, i think it just comes down to your intentions. if you are trying to make a difference in someones life then what difference does it make how you do it?

As I said in the article, giving something is better than giving nothing but my emphasis is whether giving something purely in the form of a cash transfer is merely compensating for genuine lack of interest or care.

I can speak for myself and say that it certainly is, I know i should be doing more or even caring more, but instead, i give some money to some charities (animals charities in my case) when maybe i should go spend some time at the SPCA and walk dogs or something :)

Especially in SA where most charity money ends up in someone's new mercedes....

there is a completely different school of thought which reckons that giving charity and aid (talking large scale now) is actually keeping the bulk of Africa in poverty as opposed to helping solve it....i am beginning to agree with them....

Umm so what you're saying is that you shouldn't bother if you don't do it right? even though i'm personally not big on giving to charities myself i think that every bit does help. the fact that you are giving your hard earned cash that you could have put towards something nice for yourself and giving it to someone else in need should count for something! i agree that its not the best possible way to help them but it is a way...

yeah i have to say that i am absolutely loving reason despite or perhaps because one doesn't use VST's. I love that an entire production can be created in a single package and as I get to grips with things like th Thor, I can really see that Reason is gonna be the production standard of the future.

I been getting a bit tired of reading on various sites and forums lately that you gotta have this or that VST or you just not gonna make it...its such a load of bollocks, i think if one can get to grips with Reason , then there is no reason why you cannot create any instrument or effect yourself with clever useages of the Combinator.

As for the Record and its audio support, i guess it will aid in remixing of tracks so looking forward to seeing where Propellerhead takes it....

Personally, i think that most Software sequencers' "rewire" capability is more than sufficient to host Reason. VSTi format just can't support the level of integration required between a sequencer and something multi-faceted like Reason.

As far as i'm aware, most popular sequencers have Rewire ability - well at least the ones i use (sonar, cubase). How about ProTools ?

Apparently madonna did ALL the instrumentation on her last album with Reason. Impressive. But it's that handy.

I'm a bit sceptical about their foray into the sequencing world - however, let's not knock it till we've tried it eh? After all, it may just come with some super funky Reason integration that none of us can fathom currently.

I look forward.

haha thats awesome!

just the other day i was in a complete mess because the top google search said one thing and wikipedia said another, OMG what do i do, i didn't know, i couldn't figure it out because i had to, o i cant belive i am saying this, but i had to CHOOSE, aarrgghh no!

After the choice, i then had to think about that choice and try interpret it but neither wikipedia or google returned any results so i had to stop.

Thanks for the comments NeilDLR and Nattela (this is the nats I know hey??)

I cant believe she said that to you Nats!! That's crazy! Imagine what she would have said about Sue and I getting married in court if we were her family! Well, the rest of us who were there thought you had a magical wedding....and of course, the wedding, however simple or complex it is, remains a day where a piece of paper is signed. A marriage is a lifetime and a commitment, pity she doesn't realise that!

I find it crazy that people will spend a life of misery with someone they do not love to satisfy what their parents think or believe. I mean obvisouly we dont wanna upset our families with our choices but for fuck sacks, we are all our own people and we have to make our own choices, sometimes our own mistakes too....

And its not even religion which is bounding people these days, I see more any more young couples who cant stand each other and are just together because the person ticked all the virtual boxes....mostly around potential earnings even more sadly!

They wonder why adultery and divorce is always increasing!

Dude you NEED to come let us take you true foodies round Cape Town!!!!!!!

Can you even get a decent cup of java in JHB or do they all make it from Mice droppings??!!
The last time I was up there I had one at a restaurant at Sevens in Fourways. I asked the waiter what coffee brand it was & he didnt know. The MANAGER didnt know.
Needless to say it was Illy but they made it so badly that Mice droppings would have been far better.

When I'm up there now I eat at my moms, cook my own food or eat at peoples houses. We ALWAYS bring our own coffee with - how sad is that!

Cape Town has ruined me for life! ;)

excellent post!!

I agree that atheists seem to be more accepting of other religions. Probably because they can look at the bigger picture objectively.
I CANNOT abide people that do not have respect for the decisions of others - religious or otherwise & impose their opinion so forcibly as to make it creed.

My mother-in-law on my wedding day "SUCH a pity you didnt get married properly dear (?), next time you are in Madagascar, even if its in 10 years time, I will make sure to arrange a good, Catholic ceremony & then we will all celebrate that as your very 1st year of true marriage!"

anyone got any arsenic?

Great post!
I agree with you. My parents have been married for 30 years and my dad is a staunch evolutionist and my mother a church going Christian citizen. So the ignorant idea of people with different faiths are premature assumptions. I might be wrong, but atheists tend to accept other people's religions more easily than others.
