Thanks, Ken and Margot. I do think this book is best enjoyed if one is already familiar with the characters of Joe and Elvis; but also I think it is better than the last couple of books as the author has varied his approach and kept away from "moony love pains" ;-) Ken, I agree with you about the author: I was once at a festival where he was talking, and he's very amusing and generous.

Maxine - Thanks for the review. I must have read the first 8 or 9 Crais novels, enjoyed them all to varying degrees, then abruptly gave up on the series because I felt it was getting stale. But after reading your review, I think I'll give "Taken" a try. BTW I have attended a couple of Crais book signings and have found him to be very entertaining and very gracious during his talks and book signings.

Maxine - This is a top-notch review of a book by one of my favourite authors. The teaming up of Cole and Pike adds so much extra to these novels that it's good to see that Crais has gone in that direction again. The innovation of different voices sounds as though it works well here, too.

Thanks for the early review. I have this one on reserve at my local library but the books haven't arrived yet. Looking forward to it more than ever now - it will be my first Toni Morrison title, too.

I read this a while ago and couldn't quite decide how I felt about it - it's a solid book that I think stands apart because of its use of child trafficking, but it's not quite as slick as some of the others in the genre. I found Nina intriguing rather than irritating, but thought that the back story wasn't drawn out enough to explain her actions properly - it was perhaps more perplexing than believable. Some of the other characters felt a little lightweight too, but on the whole I enjoyed the book and think that it would be a series I'd stick with if/when more books arrive.

You may be able to help me identify a book I read quite a while ago, and cannot remember the name or uthor. it was about a sin eater, who travelled medieval England, and I think Wales. It was a fascinating book - but I regret to say that I do not think it was yours - which I am now reading.

Thank you,
Jude Nolan
