Make sure the various components in the room are dry.
The air needs to be humid (to make the ozone more effective), but the walls, floor, and carpets must not be wet. Humidity will cause the spores to open their protective coatings... and ozone will then kill the spores too.

If you are using a standard "room ionizer" with a HEPA filter, then you will need to leave it running for a couple of years, without entering the room.

If you are using a remediation unit from a rental place, they usually provide recommendations based on the size of the room, and output of ozone generator. I would expect you'd dose for an hour or less, with a cheap (because ozone will kill it at some point) fan in the space to stir the air, and don't enter the space for at least 6 hours.

It depends on the temperature, humidity, and how many consumables are in the room.

A standard room ionizer, is usually non-detect within 10 feet, so it'll decay entirely back to oxygen throughout the room in a matter of 15-30 minutes.

Larger "remediation" type units might last up to two hours.

Increasing temperature and/or humidity, adding visible light, shortens the lifetime of the ozone.

No other measures required.

You should not use it in a room you are in. The ozone it makes will help deodorize the room... and damage the breathing structures of plants and animals, damage carpet backing and mattress padding, and discolor dyed fabrics (with stronger effects on blue then finally to red).

It makes sense to "dose" a room infrequently (not even monthly), when it is not occupied... but if you can "well ventilate" the room with outdoor air, you don't need this device for that purpose.

Ozone can trigger and inflame asthmatic symptoms. I don't have any real problems with small amounts of ozone, such as these devices make. But not everybody is me, and not everybody knows what to look for.

Ozone is bad for you.

in low amounts most people will not notice any health effects and just notice the smell although some people with preexisting respiratory problems can be sensitive even to the low amounts of ozone that some Air Purifiers produce.

Studies have been done that show these low levels of ozone do practically nothing to help with the indoor air quality of your home. In very high amounts o3 can fix severe odor problems and even kill mold, but at these types of levels, it would be very dangerous to inhale as o3 becomes o2, the h2o in your lungs would become h2o2 otherwise known as peroxide.

I would stay away from any "Air Purifier" that uses ozone.

Any chance this is a new or remodeled home with chemical outgassing, or there might be mold present? Too much humidity/moisture can cause mold so be careful about adding it.

My niece, nephew and sister all had their tonsils/adenoids taken out at young ages (between the ages of 2 and 5), and boy did it make a big difference for them. All 3 of them were sick constantly until they had their surgeries. tonsil removal isn't what it used to be. did he explain the procedure and the healing time? I think the more you ask, and talk to the ENT about the procedure, the more comfortable you'll feel. your son sounds like a great candidate for the surgery - it sounds like it might make a world of difference for him.
my son had tubes to, at 11 months - that was the best money we ever spent! I personally would rather have a surgery done, than constant medicating.
It sounds like you're doing a great job mama

i absolutely would get a second opinion. problems of this magnitude i think it would be bordering on irresponsible to NOT get second opinion.

in my opinion, i would think that just going straight for the surgery would be best.

my SiL just had her tonsils out- at age 28- after having had problems since she was a child. there's somethings that can never be fixed after all those years of damage, and there was a lot of suffering in the mean time. if they'd just done that in the first place, it would've be so much simpler.
