Porntip is a relatively common thai name. It means "happiness" or "blessing from heaven", which is most likely how Porntip's family sees him. And what pet owner would post an "unhappy" photo of their missing pup?

Hey Dwight,

I think it's interesting how you're talking about branding and elections... Maybe you should keep these discussions coming.

As of the moment though, Noynoy doesn't appeal to me that much anymore especially after hearing him speak. He comes off to me as someone who is incapable. Plus his advertisement on TV.. which, for me, is as empty as an MTV Video. It doesn't tell me his platform, his accomplishments, or anything about his candidacy. It just tells me... (1) celebrities support me, (2) I can carry a torch. Aside from the nostalgia, it's really pretty empty.

Hi Dwight! Nice blog:)

Just take not that Branding is still different from the actual product, or in this case, person.

1 Yes, he may be positioned as a Hero sent by God through the image of his parents but who is he really? Have we forgotten the tragedy that happened to the farmers in Hacienda Luicita? With your equation, any of his sisters can also be qualified as "Hero sent by God" but will Kris Aquino actually fit his category?

2 I don't think that asking the people to campaign for him connotes or even suggest that he'll provide the country with an honest government. I believe that honesty begins with yourself, then with your closest peers, with your constituents and then the rest of the people. How can you say that he's an honest person but when asked about Hacienda Luicita, he talks bullshit according to the farmers? And assuming he is honest man, how can you guarantee that the people around him, the people who pushed him to run, are honest people? Will he be able to handle them or the other way around?

3 Yes, I agree that Noynoy is living a simple life unlike Manny Villar who's one of the richest Filipinos. But why does he have that kind of lifestyle? Is it by choice or that's just what he can accomplish? Manny Villar may seem to be bragging about his riches through his advertisements but when you try to look at them on a different perspective, he's consistent with one thing: he wants to promote that the poorest of the poor can be rich someday with 'sipag at tiayag'. Is that a bad thing?

4 This is a very creative way of positioning Noynoy, associating him to the term 'Pinoy'. Quite effective actually especially on merchandise items. But is he really for the people? Or for those people who pushed him to run?

Again, branding is still different from who the person really is. He may be positioned as the best man for the job but is he really "the best" based on facts that matter?

I still commend you for a very interesting site. Keep it up.

The story that the edsa hopeless romantics try to paint on a noynoy presidency can be likened to Obama's whirlwind romance with an american public that grew weary of an unpopular leader like Bush. It's always good to have a fresh respite from a stressful political turmoil especially if there is a perceived promise of change for the better. But lest we fall into euphoria, we can learn a lot from what the American media is beginning to see in Obama's presidency. Do the research and you will find out that not only is the honeymoon over between Obama and the americans. So much revelation has come out in the open! What are these? Watch US TV! It's all over the web. And this can happen to us with Noynoy.
