To enable collectors in determining the value of older coins, rare coins, or gold coins it help to know and understand the grading system, which helps with determining the quality and the value of coins.

Also when ever collecting coins limited supply is not the only determination of price, because demand is just as important.

There are many choices when ever it comes to investing in any type of coins for your collection, but be sure that the coins you purchase are of high quality. Older coins has always had fascinating detail that newer coins do not seems to be able to compare to, especially with the historical facts surrounding these coins and the stories they can tell.

Researching and studying coins can help you uncover their mysteries and origins. Knowledge is always the key to any success and it will enable you with you collection also.

If you are trying to determine the value of older coins, whether they are rare, gold, or other precious metals, then pay special close attention to the quality and condition of these coins. One factor when determining the value of any coin is its age.

If an older coin has minimal signs of wear, then it will most definitely have a higher grade and thus a higher value. However, if an older coin has several scratches and abrasions, then the grade will be lower as will it value.

Every thing that we own has some value or worth to it, no matter what it may be, but some of these values are simply based on how we feel. Gain some skill and experience through research, other collectors, groups, etc., about what to expect in values of older coins and their prices if they are in good condition. There are all kinds of books and articles written on this subject that will also enable you to get a better understanding as well.

Coin experts at exhibitions, dealership, clubs, or fairs may even take the time to look at any older coins you have to give you their opinions on their condition also.

The state of older coins contributes greatly towards its value it is then definitely necessary that these coins be in considerably good condition. This means that the country of origin should be fairly legible, the date of mintage should still be legible, and the wear and tear should be of a minimum.

No matter the age of a coin it will have to be inspected to find out the value to be placed upon them, which is due to the grading system. Older coins in good condition are not always constantly accessible, but by examining these coins prior to purchasing them, you will not make critical errors if you are aware of what to look for.

Make sure that the exterior does not have any damage done to it, because any significant damage will make it loose its value. Look for marks along its sides and edges, while being careful when handling them. Be informed before purchasing is your best safeguard, but if you are still unsure, then ask a professional for their appraisal.

Of course, the value of older coins does depend mostly upon the condition or grade of each coin, but supply, rarity, and demand are also major factors as well.

Collecting older coins does different from collecting more newer coins due to the fact that they have historical value and some collectors will base their collections upon a certain period of history and are willing to pay high dollar for these older coins.

When being a coin collector there are a few things to think about. The first thing is mapping out the coins and caring for them.

There are coins that could be old, antiques, from other countries, or limited valuables. A numismatist must make sure to take good care of the coins so they can be kept in good condition.

A good approach to taking care of coins is to buy some coin accessories. Not only are the coin accessories going to keep the coins in good condition, but it will help preserve them.

Also, you will never have to shuffle through for a coin that you need at the moment, because your coin collection will be organized in any way that you want. In order to buy coin accessories that will fit the coin collector’s needs, some elements to look at may be durability, price and their service.

When buying coin accessories it is important to choose those accessories that will best satisfy the needs of the collector. Some factors that may be considered are durability, price and utility. There are numerous coin accessories that you may find in collectible stores and on the internet. Here are some that you may want to look at:

Coin Boxes

Coin boxes are most used within the category of coin accessories because they serve a good purpose to coin collectors and specialists. It is easy to organize coins because it offers many slots and are wide enough to handle every kind of coin there is.

Coin Albums

Just like a photo album to hold photos of your loved ones, this album holds pages of your loved coins. Along with every sheet, there is a clear sheet that helps protect the coins against any disturbances and made safe for handling.

Coin Holders

Coin holders are useful for coin collectors that travel and want to make sure they do not have extra baggage. They solely place a coin in the coin holder and be assured it will travel with them safely. They keep the coin intacked and unharmed so that outside forces will not get cheaper in value.

There are many other coin accessories that are available. Many selections have a role that will fit your needs for your precious coins.

You can search many different brands and kinds of coin accessories sold, and by comparing prices and factors, you can find an accessory that will make your coin collecting more enjoyable and make yourself feel like a valued coin collector.

When is the perfect time to sell coins? This may be a dumb question if asked of a coin collector however timing really does make a difference.

There are times when a collector wakes up in the morning and suddenly makes a decision to sell his precious collection of coins.

There are also times that a collector needs to give up his coin collections due for personal reasons and the idea of selling his precious coins may be the most difficult part. No matter what the reasons are, it is a fact that this does occur in the life of a coin collector.

There are many reasons why coin collectors sell their coins - there are coin collectors who are dealers at as well. Selling coins is their option and they may use it to generate income so that they can acquire other coins that they like.

Some collectors travel in search of a coin they want and during that travel, they may encounter coins that may not be qualified for their own collection but they buy them anyway. Upon returning home, they sell the coins they have purchased and make use of the money to buy the coins they are looking for.

There are also coin collectors who gather coins not just as their hobbies; these coin collectors use the coins as their source of income. They make a living from selling the coins that they collect. Sometimes they sell the coins to other collectors and price them higher than the usual price of the coins and this is appropriate if the collector owns limited edition or rare coins.

On the other hand, some collectors sell their coins because of other factors. They may sell coins because of personal reasons. Collectors sometimes decide to give away their collection because they no longer have any option but sell their coins.

This is the most difficult situation for coin collectors as they often value their coins and as much as possible would not want to give them away - the coins may be memorabilia or may have sentimental value to the collector.

Once a collector has decided to sell his coins, he must consider if it is really the right time to sell the coins. Is the collector ready to give away his coins? Is the coin at higher price now? Will it do well and will he benefit from selling his coins? These factors should always be considered.

There are other options available to determine where a coin collector could sell his coins. He may want to sell the coins at auctions. Many people now prefer the option of putting their belongings up for auction and this is not limited to coin collections.

There is also a higher chance of having the coin sold at a higher price since auctions include bidding processes. Buyers may bid for a higher price especially if the coin being sold is of rare quality and has a higher value.

A collector may also want to put up a website to advertise the coins that he would like to sell. The Internet is the easiest way for collectors to search for coins.

In addition, putting the coin on the Internet will make the selling an easier task. The collector may put up his own website and place the pictures of his coins and some brief descriptions on it. He should also note how much he is willing sell them for.

There are other options too: the seller may want to do a dealer-to-dealer negotiation. He can go directly to coin dealers and sell his coins. The dealers then can sell the coins that they purchased to other dealers.

It is important to compare prices between one dealer and another as there is always a chance that one dealer may buy the coins at a higher price than other dealer. It is wise to shop for dealers and then decide which you one you want to deal with.

It is also recommended that collectors who decide to sell their coins use a coin grading service. It is very important so that the seller not end up a loser when he sells his coins. By using a grading service, the seller will be able to set a price that is based on the assessment made by the grading service who will determine the actual value of the coins.

Most importantly, coin collector should not clean their coins once they have decided to sell them. If they do, the value of the coins will depreciate.

Author: Richard Goldstein

In today’s world of global uncertainty, one thing remains certain: gold coins. Gold bullion coins continue to outperform traditional vehicles the same way gold coins and bars outperformed everything under the sun during the 1970’s.

By holding gold coins in one’s portfolio, you dramatically reduce the overall risk of your portfolio. Just by having some gold coins as part of your strategy, you also allow the price of gold, as it increases, to bring up the value of your portfolio.

It is much easier to buy gold today than it was 30 years ago. Gold bullion coins are easily bought and sold with the click of a mouse. Not only is it easier to buy gold, but gold investments are exploding onto the investment scene like never before.

In fact, gold coin sales by the U.S. mint in recent months have outpaced the gold coin sales of the prosperous-for-gold 1970’s. Despite this recent fact, the gold price is just beginning its increase.

As gold coins become more scarce, quite naturally, investors covet the yellow shiny metal at an ever increasing rate. The type of gold coins sought after by investors who follow the price of gold are American Gold Eagles, Canadian Gold Maple Leafs, South African Gold Kruggerands, Australian Gold Kangaroos, Chinese Gold Pandas, and Austrian Gold Philharmonics.

These are the most popular gold coins available to investors who want profit potential and protection. The benefit to owning these gold bullion coins is four-fold.

1.	You get immediate liquidity. This means you can sell your gold bullion coins at or near the gold price at any time, anywhere in the world.

2.	You are in control. A strong gold investment is an investment in certainty. Knowing you have gold coins in your possession that you can rely on makes a world of difference to one’s sense of financial well-being.

3.	There is tremendous profit potential with gold bullion coins, more so than just about every other vehicle out there. It matters not whether you hold American Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, South African Kruugerands, or any other type of these gold bullion coins, they will provide a well positioned investment portfolio an increased probability of profitability.

4.	Last but not least, gold bullion coins provide economic safety and stability in a world increasingly plagued with uncertainty and dangers.

Those are some of the “pros” of owning gold bullion coins. There is more that a first-time purchaser of gold coins should be aware of; the “other side of the coin,” so to speak. If you own American Eagles, Canadian maple leafs, South African Kruugerands, Austrian Philharmonics, Chinese Pandas, or Australian Kangaroos, they are subject to confiscation by the federal government.

In 1933 Franklin Roosevelt issued an executive order which required U.S. citizens to turn in all gold bullion coins produced by the U.S. mint, as well as any gold coins and bars produced by foreign governments. Our country, in that period was in the peak of a crisis: the dollar was in trouble, smart investors were getting out of stocks and bonds, and unemployment was on the rise.

This period was the great depression. The consequence of not turning in your gold bullion coins or gold bullion bars was a huge fine and jail. If you buy gold bullion coins today, like the American Eagle, the U.S. mint prints a $50 denomination on the back of the coin.

Why? Because if the government were to confiscate gold bullion coins like they did in the 1930’s, you would only receive the $50 denomination value, despite the current price of gold in the market, whether that price be $500, $1000, or even $2000. The chance of such Federal government confiscation is universally deemed as unlikely.

Also gold bullion transactions are reportable to the IRS. We will also cover in detail the type of gold transactions that are not reportable, private gold, momentarily.

Also important to recognize is that as the price of gold fluctuates, so does the value of gold bullion coins.

Nevertheless, despite these contingencies, asset managers all over the country are recommending allocating at least some portion of an investment portfolio to gold. Prices are on the rise, in what analysts have termed a long-running bull market which is just in its beginning stages

PRIVATE AND NON-CONFISCATEABLE GOLD COINS

Investors naturally gravitate to gold investment vehicles where they can expect the greatest return with the smallest amount of risk. In the physical gold market certified gold coins reign supreme.

Certified gold coins are the gold coins minted by the US Mint befor the year 1933. $20 Saint Gaudens, $20 Liberty, $10 Indian, $10 Liberty, $5 Indian, $5 Liberty and $2.5 Liberty gold coins are all examples of the most profitable gold coins an investor can acquire for several reasons.

1.	Certified gold coins have a limited mintage. The government can not go back and mint any more of these gold coins. You want to own gold coins that continue to go up because of this fact year after year regardless of what the gold price does. Because of their limited availability these gold coins can surpass the gains seen by gold bullion 2 to 5 times.

2.	Certified gold coins are also one of the last legally private assets the government allows you to acquire. World Financial and goldcoinsgain.com are not required to ask for a social security number when you buy gold coins or when you sell gold coins.

3.	Non-confiscatable. Certified gold coins are exempt from confiscation. Certified gold coins are exempt from confiscation if the government decided to confiscate gold like they did in between 1933 and the early 1970s. You were in a world of hurt during those almost 40 years of you were holding the wrong kind of gold coins. American eagle bullion gold coins come in 1 ounce, 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, and 1/10 ounce denominations. These gold bullion coins are guaranteed by the US Mint for purity, weight and size.

The Gold American Eagle bears the “W” mint mark reflecting the gold coin was struck at the US Mint at West Point. The obverse of the American eagle bullion gold coin features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her hand and an olive branch in her other hand.

On the other side of the gold coin a male eagle carries an olive branch as he flies above a nest containing a female eagle and her eaglets. Each gold coin is encapsulated in plastic and comes with a custom designated Certificate of Authenticity.

American Eagle Proof gold coins are also available. The proof gold coins are more desired because each year they are produced by the US Mint in a limited quantity. Each proof gold coin is struck several times with a special die to create a more lustrous finish. Because of the limited quantity, investors will typically prefer these gold coins for their retirement accounts.

Weather we are talking about gold coins or widgets whenever there is a limited amount naturally prices increase faster and become more valuable. The American Eagle Proof gold coins are also exempt from confiscation. A lot of investors like knowing they have the type of gold coins backing their retirement account that are not subject to confiscation by the Federal government.

The following are facts that you may find interesting. According to the website of the US mint, all of the gold that is mined around the world would only end up measuring a cube of 20 yards on each side.

American Eagle gold coins weighing one ounce are very valuable and desirable in today’s market.

22 karat gold is in every gold American eagle coin along with a minute amount of another metal to be sure the coin is not as malleable. If you purchase gold from the United States Mint, it is certain that your gold was acquired in the United States.

When buying American eagle gold coins, you have 4 sizes to choose from - 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce, and 1 ounce. It is true that coins vary in cost according to their size. The gold eagle coin comes in two forms: bullion and proof.

It’s easy to find American Eagle gold bullion coins to buy. Gold coins make excellent investments due to the fact that their price will fluctuate based on the supply of money in the economy as well as their aesthetic appearance. Nearly every gold dealer in the world will buy and sell American gold bullion.

They may be purchased, sold and or exchanged easily, and may also be deposited to your IRA or 401K account where you will be able to legally avoid paying taxes, as they are untaxable.

The U.S. Mint’ online tool is a great place to start locating both local and national American Eagle Gold Coin retailers. Just put in your state and find both local and national dealers.

Go to eBay, if you don’t like the amount of results. There are many American Eagle gold coins for sale at coin stores and internet sites.

A phone book will be helpful as well. Search on gold coins as the key words to find more information. Run a Google search for “American Eagle gold coin.” Searching will bring up any number of sites. Two sites are chipmancoins.com and Blanchard.com.

The American Eagle gold proofs are similar to the bullion coins of the same design, but explicitly intended for coin collectors. They are the same in size, and have the same quality and amount of gold. It is possible to buy coins in sets of two or four. Because there are differences in the processing of producing the coins, proof coins are slightly different than actual gold bullion American Eagle coins.

The addition of dye and the manufacturing process for proof coins being struck more, the background has more reflection and the foreground has a frosted appearance. This will give a crisper image in the subject matter as well as the background.

Look on ebay to find American eagle coins for sale and sets of coins. If you are looking for uncirculated coins and they are sold out you need only look on eBay for opportunities to buy them. They may be very expensive if you buy them at an auction.

{Look for “American eagle gold proof coins” on Google or another search engine.} {A lot of times the sites that will have proof sets for sale could be sold out of the year you would like, however, be sure to look at older offerings and see what could be purchased from other years.} {It seems that a coin that is collected has to have some type of original flaw to get top pay.}

{Check around with different dealers as the pricing can vary widely.} {Before you commit to a bid, you should check prices across sellers for a particular product as there are a few maliciously opportunistic sellers.}

One quite recent investment opportunity when it comes to gold is the American Buffalo gold coins. Similar to the gold dollar coin a US insignia will be present on the Buffalo gold coins.

There should be governmental guarantees about the quality and amount of gold that is contained in every coin. This is to guarantee the worth of the Buffalo gold bullion will not be questioned in world markets. It is pretty easy to buy Buffalo gold if you are willing to do a little research to find a dealer.

The Buffalo gold coin is pure 24k gold, much more pure than many other coins, such as the 22k American Eagle gold coin, which contains approximately 8% metal other than gold. This is the case 99 out of 100 times. You are sure to get gold with 99 percent of coins.

The cost of the coin is started by taking the price of gold and the coin making process into consideration. These are the things that make the buffalo coin a popular investment when choosing gold.

This is the way to locate gold bullion dealers.

The US Mint will help you to find someone nearby. You will only need to pick the state. Their website will also give estimated prices for gold coins, based on the current trading price of gold.

Use a search engine such as Yahoo or Google and search for “Buffalo gold coin.” You will be able to find many good results, like Blanchard and Northwest Territorial. It is important to check prices for different dealers of Buffalo gold as there can be a wide variation in pricing.

You can locate a dealer by looking in your phone book under the “gold” or “coins” section.

The U.S. Mint has made 300,000 of the Buffalo gold coin proof version. It seems like a huge number, however, some number more than 244,000 of the Buffalo gold bullion coins have been sold to some lucky buyers.

The US Mint will sell these to you. You can either contact the United States Mint at 1-800-USA-MINT or visit their website. They will be something that can be purchased separately.

One other choice to look at online auctions such as eBay to possibly locate one that is less expensive that the current price at the U.S. Mint site, but make sure the dealer is reputable, so you won’t buy a Buffalo gold proof coin for more than you should.

Be sure to do your comparison shopping before you invest in gold, regardless of the form that it’s in you definitely want to get your money’s worth. Investing in silver bullion is highly similar to investing in gold bullion so the same principles will apply. You are going to find just as many people trying to rip you off by overcharging on the gold that they are selling as those who will not pay you enough for your scrap gold.

{The complication with becoming a collector of anything is finding someone to tell you how much what your collecting is worth.} {It is fun to find out how the bovine behemoth goes against coins from other countries.}

The American buffalo coin which was first sold to the public in 2006 has gained momentum as people are investing more in gold coins for their future financial security.

The gold buffalo as it is affectionately known as is made of 99.99 percent gold and is the only coin so pure that is minted by the United States. It is legal tender in America and its face value is $50, but its actual value is many times more than that.

The American buffalo coin had three different types added with various face values - $5, $10, and $25 - and had the weights of 1/10oz, 1/4oz, and 1/2oz respectively.

These coins add great value to any coin collection but also can hold a higher financial value in the future thus making them a versatile form of gold. These coins are also easier to sell as one can take them to a dealer and trade them for their monetary value according to the market prices.

The American buffalo coin does have its differences to other coins so before investing in gold coins at all, be certain that you know the difference between them and their values. If you invest without this information it will waste your time, energy and perhaps more importantly, your money.

Because the stocks are volatile, if you make a mistake in purchasing the wrong type for you, it may result in a long wait before you can earn a profit on them by reselling the coins.

Before purchasing an American buffalo coin, ensure that this is the better prospect for you. There are many dealers who can offer you information on this topic, or you can search the internet to find all of the facts and figures on each one. There are thousands of people who have already been through this decision and can offer you the help that you need to pursue the right choice.

Since the American buffalo coin has been available, sales have soared so there is a definite interest in these coins that are made in a limited number. The coins do hold an excellent prospect for the future, but one must look at all of the angles of the gold market that are available before making such a purchase. For serious investors, these coins are not suitable for their means, so they go to the higher levels of gold bullion and the like.

The American buffalo gold coin may not be your first choice of investment if you are looking for something more serious than this. That is the reason why it is so imperative to get the honest and accurate advice from someone who has the knowledge first hand. This will be extremely helpful to you in making the correct investment.

There are so many people who peruse the hobby of collecting currency, coins & money.

They do is out of different reasons. Some just do it for fun; some do it very seriously, as they expect to make money out of it.

When people are very clear about why they are collecting money or coins the things are relatively simpler.

May be one is just born in an environment where information regarding the sales and purchase of the coin & money collection is available. On the contrary there are people who just collect coins & money for pure fun, its noting more then a hobby.

However, at any point in case they want to sell off their coin & money collection they just don?t know where to go. Their collection may be worth many folds as compared to the prices they could manage by themselves because of the limited information available.

Coin collectors must always keep in mind how they are going to care for their coins. How will they arrange and protect them?

Most collectible coins are rare, ancient or in limited edition. They can come from all over the world and, depending upon their condition, can command a healthy price.

As a collector, you must consider how you are going to care for them so that they maintain their value and appearance.

There are a variety of coin accessories that will aid you in your task of caring for them. Coin accessories not only add to your enjoyment of your collection, they aid you in maintaining and caring for your valuable collection.

A collector needs to consider the type of accessories that are available so they can make an educated decision when purchasing collecting accessories. As with most things, elements to consider include how much it is going to cost, how useful is it to you and how long is it likely to last.

You will be able to find accessories for your coins from any good coin store, or from some quality websites online. Here are some accessories you may want to consider when you are out shopping.

Storage Boxes for your Coins

Perhaps the most sought after accessory is a Coin Box. Coin Boxes help the collector organize and maintain the collection in a safe and orderly manner.

The boxes typically come with large compartments that allow you to segregate the coins into different sections so you can easily locate just what you are looking for without having to dig through the entire collection.

The less you needlessly handle the coins, the better condition they will remain in. So, for organization and protection purposes, consider picking up and using a nice coin box.

Coin Albums

Coin albums are great! Once you place your coins in a protective holder (see “Coin Holders” below), you can easily slip them into the protective plastic sleeves that are contained in the coin album. Nothing is more enjoyable than flipping through a beautifully organized coin album.

It allows you to easily, and safely view your collection, both front and back. Once placed in an album, your coins are easy to find and handle, and best of all, they are nicely protected.

Coin Holders

Coin holders are a collector’s must have. Placing a coin into a coin holder is a great first step towards providing protection for the coin so it does not become easily scratched or bumped. Holders allow you to easily hold and transport your coins in a protective covering.

Using coin holders along with either a coin box or coin album gives you a perfect combination. You can place the coins in the holders and then place the holders into either the coin box or the coin album. If you are unable to purchase anything else to help protect your collection, purchase coin holders!

There are, of course, other coin accessories that can be purchased through your coin dealer, or online, but the three mentioned above are certainly the most important to consider. When deciding on what coin accessory you need, consider it’s function and ask yourself if it will best fulfill your needs.

If it doesn’t, then consider an alternative. And, of course, if you are not certain what you want, don’t be shy, ask your dealer, they are usually glad to share their knowledge with you.[]

Coin collecting is a hobby that is extremely popular among a lot of people. Whatever the age of the person is, collecting coins has its benefits.

In most cases, coin collections gravitate on two things. For children, they tend to collect coins that look pretty or unusual.

However, for adults, their coin collections will tend to gravitate towards the value of it rather than the looks.

People have different ways to acquire their collection. Some will just collect any coin that they stumble upon, while there are people who buy in bulk and eagerly anticipate limited mint edition of coins.

Whatever your methods are, there may be some questions that you may want to ask about this particular hobby.

The first would be about handling the coin collection. As a beginner, you must understand that you should handle the coins as little as possible.

The fact that fingerprints on an uncirculated coin can dramatically cut the value of the coin, you must never handle the coin at all. However, if you do need to handle the coin, do so from the edge and never on the face of the coin.

If you need to lay the coin down, it is important to use a velvet pad if it is available. But, if none is available, a soft and clean cloth will do. If you are going to handle coins that are extremely high in value, you must do so with surgical gloves and protective face mask.

Most people will also tend to ask how to keep their coin collections clean.

Basically, you don’t really need to clean your coin collection. In fact, you shouldn’t even think about cleaning them at all. Most collectors look for the authenticity of the coin rather than its shiny newness.

Even if you wipe the coin clean with clean, soft, and lint-free rag, it will leave hair line scratches on the coin which will greatly reduce its value. So, cleaning a coin collection is never really an option.

Storage is also another question that you may have about coin collecting. Basically, the goal in storing your coin collection is to protect it from temperature extremes and humidity.

Also, you may want to protect your coin collection from dust, dirt, chemicals, and even fingerprints. So dehumidifying equipments will be needed as well as locking the storage as airtight as possible.

In most cases, low value coins are kept in almost any container and can be handled any way you like. However, when you are dealing with high value coins, you will need to give it extra attention.

The goal here is to provide a container that will preserve the coin’s condition. Make the container as airtight as possible, and the container should also be able to display the coin in order for you to never need to take out the coin from the container.

Uncirculated coins are very much valued by collectors. However, if you really want a valuable coin collection, go for rare ones if you can afford to have it. Learning about grading coins can also help you to determine the true value of a particular coin.

So, if you want to start your very own coin collections, you may want to keep these things in mind. With these tips, you can be sure that you will be able to know how to handle your collection and also help in appraising its value. Always remember that this hobby is not just fun, but is also a good investment.[]
