Project Europe II – Day 19

Today is the last day of our little trip to Norway. Woke up at about 9am and had the standard hotel breakfast downstairs before heading out to do some last minute souvenir shopping.

As today is a Sunday, almost all the shops are closed except for a few souvenir shops open in the Karl Johans Gate area. We just did the necessary shopping and make our way back to the hotel.

On the way back, we chance upon a group of people dressed in medieval costumes playing some music at a tram station. They were promoting a middle age event happening today. It’s too bad we can’t make it to that event as we have a flight to catch in the afternoon.

Got back to the hotel to check out at about 1130 then we walked to the Oslo Sentral train station. From there, we took the Airport Express train costing 170NOK each to OSL. The trip took us only 19mins and we got to the airport by 1300. Did our tax refund and had our last hamburger lunch in Oslo in the departure area before we took the Qatar Airways A330-200 to Doha at 1555 and arriving at 2305.

Now, we are at DOH waiting for our connecting flight back to Singapore. Its scheduled to arrive in Singapore at 1530.

In summary, this has been a great trip to a very beautiful country. The NATO Tiger Meet was a fantastic experience. The drive from Trondheim to Ålesund to Runde then Geiranger, Flåm, Bergen, Jørpeland and finally Oslo was great! We had so much fun driving that 2500km of windy roads, mountain plateaus, tunnels and vehicle ferries. There are just too many things to see, too many things to experience in Norway. The fact that there were so many other vehicles from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and even Switzerland having holidays here tells us Norway is really something very different from the rest of Europe.

Some advice for those that plan to have a holiday in Norway during the summer months, rent a car and drive around. Many places are accessible only by car. Plan to drive at most 200km a day and take your time, do not rush from city to city.

We have only covered a small part of the central and southern Norway. We will be back again! For the 1 week of Salmon Fishing, the Northern cities and the next NATO Tiger Meet at the Ørland Air Station.
