These are the wireframes for the website, two pages, and the mobile site, also two pages.

This looks like a font I would use because it is simple and elegant with a little twist of fanciful.

Here are the criteria from the Lupton book:

Legibility – How distinct are the characters?

I would give this a 5 for legibility. Each character is distinct and it looks crisp.

Readability – How comfortable is this to read as body copy?

I think this is very readable, as it is crisp and clean. I would give this a four, with the caveat that in italic and light styles, it might be hard for some older eyes to see.    4 points 

Flexibility – how well does this font read in different sizes of font? weights?

This is a very flexible font, in that it reads well at different sizes. There are ten different weights of this font, and I like how all of them look on a screen.  5 point

Showmanship – How memorable is the font? How unique are its details?

I think it is memorable because the capital J and the small f, for example, have a distinct style that makes it stand out from other serifs being put onto Google fonts today.    4 points

Classiness – Can you take it to Red Lobster?

This font is classy. It holds it own on a page.

Amphibiousness – Has it been optimized for screen? hinted?

I looked at this font on Safari and on Chrome and on Firefox and I like how it appears on all of them, still crisp and clean. 5 points

Peace-nik/hippie-chic…artsyphartsy, organic, granola, bohemian wife, mother, midwife and healer… maybe getting a little bit more interesting as I ease gracefully into eccentric.

I love to cook amazing gourmet meals, bake addictive and healthy cookies, and decorate with hatboxes, cool chairs, and schmatas I find at yard sales.

I am trying to be my authentic self…livin’ and lovin’ in an off-the-grid house way back up on a mountain, learning to knit, spin and grow herbs and veggies… and create a very colorful stash of yarn.  Hatboxes hold lots of yarn!

Knitting and spinning came into my life to help me heal…and to help me let my inner-artist come out.

I love to spin, and want to do it more and more all the time!

As I sit in front of my wheel, I connect back to all the women across the ages who have passed down this art and science to me, to my hands. I am grateful for that tradition, and also excited to see how spinning will grow and change as an art form as women, and men, in our contemporary society learn to blend these ancient arts with modern living.

I am now a divorced college student. I no longer deliver babies, and, due to the five surgeries I have had on my hands, I am only now starting to ease back into bodywork. I am a full -time student of Visual Communications at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, MI, my heart’s home. so I no longer live off the grid in Pennsylvania, either.

This blog is now being used as my journal for my Web Design class. One of our assignments has been to find and use a theme, so I have totally changed mine.

I had not updated the blog in nearly 7 years…a lot can change in that much time. I am totally different woman, going in a whole new direction. Some of those old things are true….I still love to knit and spin, and I create even more delicious food than every before. I am becoming more my authentic self.

You are never too old to recreate yourself!

I did not want to miss class if I could help it so I called my friend Adam. He was kind enough to be willing to facetime with me, and thus, I was in class, just not there with the other people in the class room.

I was able to hear some of the presentations from our architecture assignment, but that was hard to hear. When Sabrina presented her lecture, I was able to see and hear, and follow along on a pdf. So, I ended up getting all the same info, just from my home desk.

This blog will now be used as my blog for a class I have this semester – Web Design!

I am excited to learn all this class is about…and WordPress! I mostly  use wordpress for myself and for clients, and learning the deeper stuff will really come in handy.

We are tasked with using this blog as our journal through the class, so, I will post now twice a week.

For our last class, we broke into groups to tackle an information pathway exercise. Adam, Adrianna, Heather and I worked on a pretend website and wrote down how we would organize the website. Adam is putting it all into a digital format which we will turn in Monday in class.

I will post it here when I have access to it.

I once came very close to drowning in a riptide off Miami beach. An angel, or maybe even a band of angels, saved my life.  Let’s go out for a beer and some knitting and I will tell you all about it…an inspiring and lovely story, seeing as how both my dear, dear friend Jennifer and I did make it back to shore safely that day.

That experience intensified my life long love of all things angelic.

Now, I find that experience is informing my craft table…

We had a needle felting class at a recent Knotty night and something in me clicked….the whimsical, Waldorfy mom I used to be when my kids were little, and the new fibermaniac me met for the first time over a really great latte from Wendy and the gals at Cool Beans. Thanks to Barb, Jean, and Vivian for the great tutorial and pointers that night!

Despite my phobia of sharp things, I am not afraid of these insanely sharp and jaggedy and pointy tools required to stab repeatedly at the pretty roving to make it behave (although if I do punch one through a finger I will drive myself to the ER to have them give me a gallon of lidocaine before it is pulled out.)

After making some kitschy Christmas tree ornaments for my first tries at needlefelting, I knew I was loving this new way to create.  I got online and “poked around” on some great needlefelting sites, and watched some great how-to videos.  I found a kindred spirit’s online store and ordered a kit and some wool. I dove into the gift stash that some of my dear mentors at spinning group gave me back in March when I first started spinning and started to play.

I made a cute snowlady, intended as a gift for someone special this holiday season, and then…these images started coming to me, and I have since been totally preoccupied with making these little angels.

The wonderful box from Sage Dream Designs arrived and made it even more fun…great colors, nice wool.

Today was spent letting them come…my favorite so far…this angel looks like it is gestating.

More…

They will all be ornaments for myself and others now this holiday season. I am going to get an even better picture of all of them before I send them off to their new homes.  I have to figure out how best to hang them, so folks can either put them on the tree or hang them anywhere else.

Most of the current knitting projects have been put on hold, partly because of my desparate love/hate relationship with knitting, which I hope to write about someday in an essay entitled, “Love, Hate, Knit, Purl,” and partly because holiday knitting and crafting takes precedence this time of year.

But even IF I still liked knitting, I think I would have to stop it all for a while to see where this band of angels is leading me this time.
