Motorists who are concerned with the resale value of a vehicle when buying a car may be impressed by the latest addition to <a class="zem_slink" title="Alfa Romeo" rel="homepage" href="http://www.alfaromeo.com">Alfa Romeo</a>'s range.

According to the manufacturer, statistics from industry expert Cap have revealed the Alfa MiTo is expected to retain more of its original price tag after 10,000 miles and one year than any other model in the UK.

Owners selling the 1.3 JTDM after this period of time have been advised they can expect to receive 81 per cent of what they paid when the car was brand new.

This is five per cent more than its nearest competitor from Mini.

Used vehicle remarketing manager <a class="zem_slink" title="Simon Wheeler" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Wheeler">Simon Wheeler</a> said: "This is significant testimony to the exceptional attention to detail Alfa Romeo has applied to this car in terms of design, build quality, reliability, running costs and desirability."

Italiaspeed reports that the 1.8 16v engine will be used in the upcoming <a class="zem_slink" title="Alfa Romeo 159" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_159">Alfa Romeo 159</a>, the <a class="zem_slink" title="Lancia" rel="homepage" href="http://www.lancia.com/">Lancia</a> Delta, the <a class="zem_slink" title="Alfa Romeo Brera" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_Brera">Alfa Romeo Brera</a>, Spider and Mito GTA.

It will be offered in 170bhp, 200bhp and 230bhp outputs (the latter reserved for the Brera, Spider and Mito GTA) and features both direct injection and continuously-variable inlet and exhaust cam timing. It will be offered with either six-speed manual or six-speed 'Q-tronic' automatic transmissions.

Fiat Powertrain Technologies is also said to be close to production of its Multijet 2 new-generation diesel injection technology, and its Multiair electrohydraulic valve-actuation system. Multiair is said to improve torque from petrol engines by up to 20% at lower engine speeds and boost power by 10-15%, yet reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%.

The Multijet 2 engines will also be launched in Frankfurt, with new injection pump and solenoid injectors for more precise fuel delivery; these engines will meet the Euro 5 emissions standards, with reduced nitrous oxide emissions.

Besides small units like the 1.3 diesel, Fiat is preparing a 3.0 V6 Multijet 2 diesel, currently being tested in prototypes.

This followed the departure of Alfa&#8217;s parent company, Fiat, 11 years earlier, and since then most fans of Italian cars have been forced to buy used vehicles or admire supercars made by Ferrari, Lamborghini, or (since 2002) <a class="zem_slink" title="Maserati" rel="homepage" href="http://www.maserati.com/">Maserati</a> from afar.</p>

<p>Featuring classically sensuous Italian styling (penned by current Audi designer Wolfgang Egger), a luxurious cabin, and a high-tech carbon body, Alfa&#8217;s new supercar provides a <a href="http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0801_2009_alfa_romeo_8c_competizione_drive/index.html" target="_blank">high-profile halo vehicle</a> for the brand. Though at a cost of approximately $240,000 and with just 84 examples destined to cross the Atlantic, one that will be an extremely rare sight on American roads. </p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve been saving up for a new Mercedes CL65 AMG but want something with a bit more Mediterranean flair, you may be out of luck. Even before it reaches U.S. dealers the &#8220;Quadrifoglio&#8221; brand&#8217;s two-seater has already sold out. Alfa is bringing more examples of its supercar stateside, in addition to a rear-drive sedan and BMW X3-sized crossover (<a href="http://wot.motortrend.com/6259233/auto-news/alfa-romeo-to-target-younger-buyers-with-new-mito/index.html" target="_blank">among others</a>), in the form of a drop-top 8C Competizione Spider &#8212; but those who want one will have to wait until 2010.</p>
