Practice will be this Sunday from 1-3 PM at HB. We had 17 last week, keep the great numbers up!

OU will be next weekend, here are the high level points you need to know now:

Games will not start until 12:00 Noon on Saturday
Hotels will be scheduled during the middle of next week, if you need a place to stay please email Matt (matt@clevelandwaterpolo.com)
Current Roster is below - you will see we are taking all our speed. A few Akron players will be joining us in addition to the roster below. There is still room, please email Matt as soon as possible to confirm your spot. Remember, it cost $25 to play in the tournament. (matt@clevelandwaterpolo.com)

Dues & Registration: Please make sure that you re-register for both Cleveland Water Polo and via American Water Polo as soon as possible. Registrations were due a few weeks again, and I know we have several still outstanding. Also, make sure that you begin to plan for your Summer dues. You can pay for them now via the website, or by giving a check to Matt, Kevin, or Wade.

Practice This Week - Akron / HB

All,

Great practice on Sunday. Yet again, we had another full court, full squad scrimmage. Keep it coming.

Few things for this week:

Practice:

Monday / Wednesday - Akron is hosting practice Monday / Wednesday from 8:00 - 10:00 pm. All those interested should make the trip down.

Sunday - HB 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Lets keep up the great showing.

Tournaments:

Below is our tournaments schedule as of today. PLEASE email me ASAP if you believe you will be able to make the BGSU and / or the OU. Remember, to attend a tournament is a cost of $25 to the club, unless stated otherwise.

BGSU - February 6-7 (Akron has offered to join teams, no payment needed for CWPC members)

OU - March 13-14 (Cost is $25 to attend, please email me asap regarding your attendance)

Akron / Cleveland Water Polo - April 10-11th at Akron ($25 to attend)

Registration / Dues:

Please make sure you re-register for CWPC prior to February 15th. Your registration is critical for insurance, and tax reasons. Matt and Kevin will have registration packets available at practices. Additionally, a copy of the registration will be emailed out to everyone.

For those with outstanding dues, please settle up with Wade as soon as possible.

Fantastic Practice this past Sunday. We had 15 and played full court. Thanks to all those that came!

Dues are due by the middle of February. As part of dues, we need everyone to fill out the registration forms. I will have hard copy of the forms with me at all practices.

Practice will go on as planned this Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 at HB. We will make registration forms available at that time for everyone.

Also, to set expectations accordingly, we have several upcoming tournaments in the works. As such practice will being to follow more of a traditional format, including conditioning, drills, and lots of playing.

PLEASE BE ON TIME so that we can take advantage of all the pool time that we pay for.

Congrats to Cleveland Water Polo's Scott and his wife Monica on the recent birth of his son, Elliot. Elliot was born on Monday, at 2:20 and was 8 lbs.

My question is when will this kid be in the water throwing the ball around... and will he have the same left handed shot as his dad?

Practice Sunday, Dues, Registration

Happy New Year! Welcome to another year of Cleveland Water Polo. We are extremely excited about the direction of the team, as we continue to grown and expand. Financially, we are working to put ourselves in a position to acquire new caps and balls. We are also evaluating several potential sponsors that would help purchase goals for CSU. As we begin the new year there are a few things we need every member, new and old to do.

First, dues for the Winter Season (January - April) will be $60 for members, and $40 for students. These dues are due no later than February 14th. You can pay via the website or via check. Please make the checks out to Cleveland Water Polo Club and give them to Matt or Kevin.

Second, outstanding dues. There are a number of us, myself included, that have been rather lax on our payment of dues to the club. Kevin, Wade and I have been working to correct this issue. Several members will be receiving emails with statements regarding any outstanding dues owed. Please be diligent in paying anything outstanding. As we solidify the organization, the need to have a steady and consistant cash flow is becoming more necessary. Please be mindful, that our dues will be going toward the payment of purchase of new caps, balls, etc as we need them.

Third, every member needs to complete a few registration forms. These forms include the American Water Polo registration, the club waiver, and an update of your emergency contact information. This information can be downloaded from the website (they will be posted within 24 hours) or in hard copy at practice. We require that every member complete these forms, as it covers each player and the club for insurance.

Finally, the practices through the first two weeks of February will be held for HB on Sundays from 1-3 pm. Akron will be having practices throughout the week, those days / times are TBD. Following the second week of February, we will start practice back up at CSU.

Dear Cleveland Water Polo Members,

I wanted to let you know that the Butler Aquatic Center will be out of commission beginning on Thursday and ending on Sunday due to planned maintenance. Because of their meet at Cuyahoga Heights, the Middle School team will not be affected. The varsity swimming and diving team’s Thursday afternoon practice has been rescheduled for Thursday morning 5:45-7:30. Classes scheduled for the pool on Thursday will meet in the gym.

During the maintenance this week, we will drain half the water and regulate the chlorine and calcium levels. This work is part of our commitment to maintaining the pool. We test it daily and have partnered with Hastings Water Works to ensure that that the water quality is always safe. We appreciate your flexibility over the next days and look forward to a fantastic swimming and diving season.

Practice this week again will be canceled at CSU tomorrow - Thursday. We are actively working on finding a solution for the limited pool time, and will update everyone as soon as we have something in motion.

Please do feel free to head down to Akron tonight, Wednesday. If you are at all interested, please let me know, as Steve T. and several other CWPC members have been making the trip down.

CWPC Goes 1-2 at Bowling Green Tournament
A crew of Ohio University women's team players, along with a few unattached players from the Columbus area joined up with CWPC to go 1-2 over the weekend in games against Central Michigan University, Ohio State University and Central Ohio WPC.

CWPC handled Central Michigan with a 10+ goal win that showcased a controlled game plan on both ends of the pool.

In a hard fought game against OSU, CWPC fell 9-8 after leading at the half. OSU capitalized on fast break opportunities late to put the game out of reach.

In the final game on Sunday against Central Ohio, CWPC scored three goals in the first quarter to take a lead, and stayed in the game through the half before the quick transitions from Central Ohio overmatched the team. CWPC lost in a rout to close the tournament, but due to seeding that placed CWPC in a winner's bracket after the first game, we brought home 5th place honors in the 12-team format.

CWPC loses a bachelor, Congratulations to Carl!
CWPC veteran Carl Weisfelder shared news with team members that he is now engaged to his girlfriend of seven months, Denise. Carl said Denise hails from the Akron area and now lives in Greater Cleveland. Planning is underway for a summer 2010 wedding.
