Practice at CSU will be canceled due to limited pool time and the start of high school swimming season.

Practice on Sunday at HB will also be canceled due to the team traveling to BGSU for the tournament.

Feel free to attend Akron's practice Wednesday.

Great scrimmage against Akron this Sunday and thanks to Akron for making the trip up to HB!

As we gear up for this week here are a few thing to be aware of.

Dues

Invoices for dues will be sent out by Wade this week. Many of us, myself included, have outstanding balances. Please be vigilant in paying your balances as soon as possible. We will also update the blog so that you can pay for your BGSU tournament fee this week.

Practice this Thursday

Practice is still scheduled for Thursday at CSU at 7:30 PM. As many of you know, I mentioned that we might not have pool time due to high school swim season starting. Scott and I are looking into this. Please plan on checking the website and your email regularly for updates.

BG Roster

BG Schedule

Below is information regarding the BG Tournament. Should you have any additional questions please let me know.

Teams: Akron University

Ball State University

Bowling Green State University

Central Michigan University

Central Ohio WPC

Cleveland WPC

Ohio Squirrels WPC

Ohio State University

Purdue University

Team Chicago WPC

Western Michigan University

Xavier University

Game Play:

Games will be 4x6 minute quarters (we will switch over to 5 minute quarters if we fall behind) with 2 minutes between quarters, 3 minutes at half, and two-2 minute timeouts per team. Officiating the tournament will be referees Peter Pappas (returning from last year) and Andy Terrien. The tournament set up will be very similar to last year’s. Each team’s first game determines if they are in the upper or lower bracket. From there, each team plays championship-style within their bracket.

Terms:

Each team plays their opening game; the winners and losers are split into their own groups.

Teams then play within their new grouping (upper 6 and lower 6).

Upper: Lower:

Winner game #1-A Loser game #1-G

Winner game #2-B Loser game #2-H

Winner game#3-C Loser game #3-I

Winner game #4-D Loser game #4-J

Winner game #5-E Loser game #5-K

Teams are then ranked 1-6 within their bracket (A=Upper, B=Lower) based on their record during tournament play. If two teams in the same bracket have the same record after tournament play, goal differential will be used to determine seeding in championship play.

Practice Thursday - 7:30 PM at CSU

As a reminder we will be practice as usual this Thursday at CSU. We start at 7:30, but if you have to come a bit late, please do so. A few things to keep in mind about our CSU practices:

We have the entire deep-end section of the pool. If enough people come, that means we can play full-court. Every person counts, so please make it to practice.
Starting this week, we will begin to do a bit more conditioning and drills along with playing. I think we all agree that we could use a few drills to get into shape.
COME and Join the fun... take a few hours out of your week to relax, play some polo, and have fun!

Thursday - 7:30 PM CSU
Practice will be held at the usual time of 7:30 pm this Thursday at CSU. Please do your best to get to the pool early so that we may promptly start at 7:30.

Sunday - 1:30 PM HB (Scrimmage against Akron)
This Sunday, the Akron team is looking to come up to HB and play us. In order to accommodate this request we must have at the minimum 8 confirmed CWPC members in attendance. Please let me know ASAP if you can make Sunday. We will start at the usual 1:00 pm time, with a goal of starting the scrimmage at 1:20. The goal will be to play 5-6 quarters of solid full tank water polo. We will, after a few quarters, plan on mixing up the teams.

DUES
For those of you that have not paid your summer dues, please do so immediately. We will begin collecting Fall dues starting next Monday. You will notice that the blog will be updated so that you can pay online should you want to. Should you need to make additional arrangements please contact Matt.

Practice this Week and Dues

Practice this will be run as normal - Thursday - 7:30 PM at CSU, Sunday - 1:00 PM at HB.

Looking forward to the rest of the fall, we are in discussion with Pitt to potentially make a one day trip to play them and a few other teams. We are also scheduled to play in the BGSU tournament in November. Please get to practice if at all possible, as the more we have, the more fun it is for all of us!

Regarding dues, if you have not paid your summer dues please do so immediately. Wade will be contacting you over the next few weeks to settle up on things.

Cleveland Water Polo had a great showing this weekend with a skeleton crew. The team finished the weekend with a 2-2 record. The team owes a lot to friends from Toronto, Ohio University, Ohio Squirrels, and Dayton, who were generous enough to provide some support.

This week we will be gearing up for a great week of practice.

PRACTICE NOW STARTS at 7:30 PM at CSU, until further notice. Please be mindful of getting to practice early, as we need to make the best use of the limited pool time we have.

Sundays will continue to run at 1:00 PM at HB. Please plan on getting to the pool early to make the best use of the time we have.

Great showing at practice on Thursday! Lets keep it going!

WE HAVE a tournament in 2 weeks, and 3 weeks. Meaning that we need people to both come to practice, and sign up to attend the tournaments. If you are able to attend either tournament, please email me matt@clevelandwaterpolo.com.

Cost to attend is $25 per tournament. The club will coordinate travel, and lodging for all those attending.

WE WILL have practice this Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The goal will be to play for the entire practice, depending on who attends. That means we need everyone and anyone to come.

This is Kevin writing, it has been a pleasure leading the club, as we have worked together to put Cleveland on the water polo map. I am also very happy to hand the reins over to Matt Kittle, who we are very fortunate to have back in Cleveland.

I will also sign off by saying a belated thank you to Eric Sullivan who taught me a great deal about water polo, and specifically about coaching a masters club. He was a great contributor to our club's growth.
