Collegiate club water polo players who are home for summer are encouraged to join Cleveland Water Polo Club to get a head start on the fall season. Just like Charlie. Any full-time student is eligible for our student rate for summer membership. Visit our membership page for details.

We will be placing our order for new men's water polo suits, but we need to have payments before we finalize the order. No exceptions (you may be able to order later for an increased cost). They will be received two weeks after the order is placed. The suits are $38 and are made by Truwest. You can view in our online store.

Thursday at CSU on 5/31 is from 8-9:30 p.m.
Sunday at HB on 6/3 is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is a one-time event at HB during our normal time slot, so we are adjusting this week.

To clear confusion, we ended early on 5/24 due to a last-minute schedule change from the CSU pool staff. This was a one-time issue and we will stay until 9:30 p.m. this week, Thursday, 5/4.

CSU Practice Time Update
We will continue to practice at CSU at 8 p.m. on Thursdays through June 14.

Beginning June 21 and lasting through late August, we will be able to begin at 6:30 p.m. and play until 8 p.m.

Please join us at CSU. Parking is available at metered spots along Chester Ave, as well as in the garage under the Rec Center. Metered spots are typically free in the evening (we will update if otherwise). And if you have not been down recently, we also have new balls and a set of floating goals for use. A nice upgrade.

Cleveland to host Gay Games in 2014, Program Includes Water Polo

Cleveland has been selected by the Federation of Gay Games to host Gay Games 9 in the summer of 2014. The event is expected to draw more than 10,000 athletes to Northeast Ohio and it includes an extensive program.

CWPC officers met with officials from GG9 and have committed to supporting the water polo program for the games.

How our club plans to contribute:

Register a team from Cleveland Water Polo Club to compete in the games (anyone can play)
Support recruitment of water polo players from the area who would like to compete with CWPC in the Gay Games
Conduct outreach to other water polo clubs to encourage registration for the games
Assist with tournament planning for the water polo tournament tentatively set to be hosted at Case Western Reserve University

Individual athletes who are interested in joining CWPC and interested clubs are encouraged to visit http://www.clevelandwaterpolo.com/ for more information. New and experienced players are welcome.

As the games approach, we will provide updates on our efforts. Please contact us if you have questions. The Gay Games FAQ explains that participation is open to anyone.

616 Water Polo Club is hosting a summer tournament June 22-24. If you are interested in playing, please email ~~Kevin~~ Matt. We may join with another club.
Suits are in design with TruWest. Matt Kittle is coordinating. As soon as the design is finalized, we will make available for purchase.
We have reached out to master's clubs in the Midwest looking at a one-day summer competition in Cleveland. We hope to share details this month.
Cleveland State will shift to summer hours after this week, we may have an updated practice time. Details TBD.

Thank you to Scott Westhoven for the updated design. The new edition is a black t-shirt with a red and white logo. Compared to the previous edition, the shirt is a better quality and the logo is slightly larger.

Water polo camp in Cincinatti offers advanced instruction

Registration is open for the 2012 Ohio Water Polo Camp scheduled for July 28-29 at the University of Cincinnati. The camp is designed for players aged 13-18.

Campers will receive individual instruction in addition to learning team strategies and philosophies of the game. Attendees will receive instruction on fundamentals of play based on position in a structured camp setting with pool time, chalk talk, video and scrimmages. Players receive a camp T-Shirt and “Goodie Bag”

Thank yous
Our club has put in a lot of effort and we are very proud to be hosting our first tournament in Cleveland. We also would like to thank our co-hosts, Akron Water Polo Club, especially Kyle Ford. Kyle and the team have worked behind the scenes to help coordinate this event and we could not have done it without them.

The aquatics facilities staff at Cleveland State University has been very flexible and accommodating of our unique needs. They have gone out of their way to provide us space and update the scoreboard software to function for water polo.

We would like to thank all of the athletes making the trip to Cleveland, and especially the team captains who put in the extra time to organize their clubs so we can enjoy competition.

Practice at CSU arrive at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday 4/19
Please join us Thursday. By arriving before 8, we can decide on full or half pool. We are also going to talk at the end just a bit about the weekend and how the host team will be helping.

Saturday Tournament Details - Arrive at 10:45 a.m.

First game of the tournament is at 12 p.m, and it is CWPC vs. John Carroll. We need everyone from the Cleveland club to arrive at 10:45 a.m. to help us set up. We have a short time period to get the pool changed over from long-course swimming to water polo and then warm up. Patrick Reville will be our field general for that.
Rick Colby is arranging a social activity for Saturday night. Once a location is chosen, we will share here.
Volunteers for managing the table will be assigned. The final schedule for that will be shared this week.

Sunday Scrimmage at HB
We will open the pool a little early at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, 4/15 to allow us extra time for set-up and warm-up. Players from John Carroll and Case will be joining us and we will be splitting teams to allow them some head-to-head action with Cleveland players split among the sides. Should be a nice full pool rumble and warm-up for next weekend.

The field for the 1st Cleveland Invitational has been set. You can gather details on the tournament on the tournament page. Download the schedule here.

We are going to be sending out schedules for table staff and pool set up. We need at least 2-3 players from Cleveland and Akron to staff the table for each game. (game clock, shot clock, game stats).

On Saturday, April 21, we will have to quickly and efficiently convert the pool at CSU from long course swimming to water polo with floating goals (thank you Akron). Volunteers will be needed. Details to come.

We are looking forward to hosting the 1st Cleveland Invitational at Cleveland State University on April 21-22. We are finalizing game times, but we are very excited to have 8 teams signed up, all from Ohio and 4 from Northeast Ohio. Rivalries will be born!

Youth water polo update
The last two weeks we have had a group of young players at HB led by Mark Krusinski and Mike Slabe. We are progressing one week at a time. If you have interested youth players (ages 11-15, please email Kevin).

If we continue to solidify a youth group, we will explore additional options related to pool time to facilitate growth. We are excited to be reaching out to younger players that will help us establish a pipeline for our club.

Notre Dame Women take on Gannon, IU

From Coach Kittle:

Notre Dame College women's water polo take on Gannon and #11 Indiana this weekend.

Gannon is Saturday at 11 a.m. and Indiana is at 7:30 p.m. both at NDC in South Euclid.

All of these games should prove to be rather exciting. The women want to avenge an early season loss to Gannon and earn a higher seed for the conference championship tournament at the end of the season.
